There is a way to finish it with BOS, Railroad, and Minute men. It takes a lot of glitching but it's possible Mod: You can get the institute in the allies
I tend to use the Boston Airport for three purposes: a personal residence (I tend to have several per game), a robot colony (mostly of the Assaultron and Mr. Handy "Muderbot" varieties), and for income (it's usually good for retrieving 20 or so purified waters every few days, and if memory serves you can install a rigged slot machine from the Vault Tec Workshop DLC for passive income, even if the robots never interact with it).
The restrictions on building here are because it was meant to be a place to build your institute teleporter if you were doing that with the Brotherhood. There are some mods that can add in the missing features (and no, that's not cheating). There is one really good reason to not use the WIFI Power Glitch -- it creates a broken power grid which will eventually cause your game to CTD while approaching the settlement. Then, once you get in there without crashing, if you go into workshop mode to try and replace the WIFI glitch stuff with wiring, 7 out of 10 times when you try to select something, you crash. At the point you need a mod that can repair/destroy the power grid and start over. So if you are a noob builder, do not WIFI glitch your settlement! If you don't want to see the wires, create your hookups, then use the pillar glitch to put everything underground. Or use the console commands on PC to put it all underground.
Its genuinely very interesting to see that Fallout 4 Settlement building community still alive, as someone who used to do it and post videos about it (before I turned to tf2 shitposts) it was genuinely a fun past time/activity. Im glad to see you keeping it alive,
I just recently discovered your channel, and the build content was so good I've started a new Minutemen General playthrough-you're earned another sub! This Boston Airport build is fantastic-I love "Fort Danse." I've always used the BA settlement as a largely cosmetic workshop area with some barracks, but. I haven't tried to make it a functional settlement in a long time. I'll have to give it another go-thanks Grey!
This build is brilliant 👍 I sided with the Brotherhood and I tend to use this as a base for my character with an ammo factory to get around the restrictions. I play in survival with a few mods that make night time deadly so it makes life so much easier.
Would love to see a video where you go into detail on settlement happiness; which things actually boost it and by what (relative) amounts. Maybe one without Creation Club content which isn't exactly for noobs. I play on survival mode & usually have happiness ratings between 70%-85%. Over a thousand hours into this run & only learned about cats or having duplicates of one resource such as slot machines from your videos. I will typically add in a few minor amenities around the caravan outposts. Things like a few chairs or benches, an outhouse, maybe an open fire or spit cooking station, fire barrels, etc. Started doing it just so Carla had a place to rest & it became habit.
THIS is really good! I could never get anything meaningful build at the airport! I either left it empty or made it a robot supply line outpost! Great vid, keep up the great work!
Would you consider making a video on tips and tricks to raise settler happiness? I'm doing a no mods run and am having a hard time of it. Love the videos, have been super inspiring in my run!
Rugs, posters, certain pieces of furniture. Oxhorn did one or two videos on settler happiness years ago and his solution was to have up to 10 or 12 bars in the settlement.
Your builds have been super inspiring, and I'm itching to get to building on my current save. It's a shame you can't have any food resources at the airport - annoying, but given it was only made for us to build the teleporter, it makes sense. Thankful for those provisioner workarounds!
IMO the primary purpose for the Airport settlement is to build the teleport array. It's also a good place to set up manufacturing, as it's a nice flat floor.
The Boston Airport could become a weapons cache or armory of sorts with weapon display racks and suites of power armor being built. For that you would not need a large population.
Pretty cool, very utilitarian... I have surveyed this area, and put it on a back burner...for when I come up with something. One thing I would add, would be another row of roof, all around, extending over the turrets and wall defences, to provide air cover, and keep anyone from landing on top of my guards, or turrets...even if they took the rooftop itself, they would be unable to just drop down to the walkways, they would be forced to go around, exposing them to fire 🔥🔥🔥and whatever else...😃 Expensive in concrete, I know, but just a suggestion...😃
First. Looking forward to this. I dont have access to mods and these builds are practical and well thought out from a gameplay and headcanon perspective. Keep up the great work! 👍
I had to install the Boston Airport workshop fixed mod so I could build an above-ground vault with a 10 foot thick concrete shell all around it. I used barn concrete floor foundations in 4 layers lined up with the lines on the airport surface, this allowed me to construct a solid wall all around except where the trees lean into the build area on the shoreline. You can build 6 layers of the wood/steel/concrete build set or 4 Vault layers inside before hitting the build ceiling (you can fit a greenhouse on the roof if you choose Vault layers)
For the workshop restrictions, there are mods. Also, there are mods expandiing the buildable area AND fix the workshop at the same time. Both exist for more than six years ...
10:52 - I would put here Outcast T-45 Power Armor if you have the pack from creation club, but if you don't have it Winterized T-51 will fit here perfectly. Besides you did really a good job with this location. For future videos you can do The Mechanist's lair, and Nuka World Raider available settlement variation in Boston.
It would possibly be worth putting down that extra pump outside as well. The interior pump is for the settlers and yourself, the exterior pump for caravans and visitors. Turn that exterior one off in the event of an attack. ;)
It is a shame we can't "paint" onto existing structures with simple geometric patterns or lines. An "H" enclosed in a circle to appear like a helipad would look great on that roof. As far as potential combat with the Brotherhood goes, that broad & flat roof looks like just the spot to drop knights in power armor.
i like this design, but i noticed one thing it could improve on, there was this little walkway prior to destroying the prydwen, and i believe you can still access that walk way if that was opened up for this build, maybe your NPC's won't walk over there as often, but it's open just in case if you make it a walkway they can use.
You can better restore the walls if you don't install flooring and just make use of it's natural flat floor. Using the single cement pillars to make a customized wall length. Also you can connect stairs to the upper airport area for more airport access since the doors below are permanently locked because developers hate us airport key card holders. :p
I'm kind of a stickler meeseeks, your vault door is placed backwards. It's styled after the Fallout 1 vault door for reference. The opening mechanism is placed on the outside which seems counter intuitive, however, both the mechanism and more importantly the door have their components shielded. Where as in its current orientation someone could tamper with the locking pins in the door from the outside.
I noticed that it looked like the vault from fallout 1. I know it's sort of backwards but it seems like either side is a bit backwards, either you could jam the door in its open position from the outside, or jam it in the closed position from the inside... it's actually a pretty poor idea all things considered.
It is backwards because, it is not to stop intruders, it is supposed to protect from a nuclear blast, hence why the entry is 'slightly' tapered and the control mechanism is exposed. The theory being that a nuclear blast will push the door further into the opening (and make a better seal) while if the powered opening/closing becomes inoperable, the mechanism can be turned by hand and the door pushed out. But yeah, it does line up better the 'wrong' way round. Plus, it is a game, do whatever you feel works best for you.
Fun fact: If you're having trouble placing water pumps, and don't want them outside, you CAN place them in a garden plot if garden plots are available.
awesome! only real critique i have is that you installed the door backwards but still pretty cool! i rarely build at the airport cause its kind of a boring spot but i like this build :)

If I were B.O.S. arriving in a vertibird, I'd have them hover over your roof, I'd drop onto the roof (power armour for the win), then drop down onto your guard post and come in through that convenient opening!
And here I was thinking, that this was more of a player home location. But yeah, you could send settlers there, but I honestly don't see the point to settling the airport with most characters.
