@@ElijahChikondi A typical police helicopter costs upwards of 10 million dollars, approximately 1000$ per hour in the air, moreover you have to include the cost of the pilot(s), ground crew, maintenance crew, facilities and facilities crew more. If you're not concerned about transport, only reconnaissance, then a distributed drone solution is a no-brainer. You could cover the whole of Greater London with around 7 of these docks (including overlap between docking zones), and you could of course nest them together to increase the air time if you fly them sequentially, or you could increase the number of drones in the air if you need to quickly gather reconasance. It would not surprise me if you could purchase 100 of these drones for less than the price of a single police helicopter, and almost none of the upkeep costs. The much more likely scenario is of course that technology like this will be used for mass-survailence.

You forgot the total control... It can check traffic and take fotos of yout and your license plate and there are many other use cases. . They can use it for the good or against us. Every new technology could make things worse.
I own a DJI Mavic Mini and a Mavic Pro Platinum. Yes they are the older versions but both are absolutely incredible at what they are designed to do. Great flight time, great photography and great range. I don't live in the US but in Canada and we don't have the same restrictions and requirements those of the US do. Planning on putting both up in the air high enough to try and capture the leading edge of the shadow from the the solar eclipse as it covers the landscape while approaching my home in the rural area of southern Ontario. Yes, I'm lucky enough to have my home in the path of totality and something I never thought would ever happen. Should make for a good TH-cam video if it works out. Hoping the skies are clear on April 8th. Wish me luck on the weather. 🤞

Why use drones for that though? Just put cameras in the factory or add sensors, that would likely be cheaper, easier and more reliable than using a drone. That is one of the use cases of Spot, the robot dog, it hasn’t seen widespread adoption either. Drones are good for monitoring things that would be difficult to do otherwise, like pylons, chimneys, roofs, etc.
@@conorstewart2214 Scaling cost, for a factory, you'd need an increasing amount of cameras, wiring, recording equipment, with regular maintenance for all of it. With a drone, you get one, it runs a path, done. Same exact reason nuclear facilities are trying drones and Boston Dynamic dogs. No installations needed, going in for maintenance. Drone goes in, drone comes out.

Can the dock swap battery, if yes, the drone can be up and running in seconds while multiple batteries are being charged at home base. Could ba a nice feature. Contusions perimeter monitoring, etc.
Do you want to carry something like that around with you? You would need a van, not a backpack and you would need a lot of money to spare. It is also massively overkill for filming a backpacking trip. For backpacking you would be better with the DJI mini series, small enough to fit in a bag but still good enough to get high quality, professional looking footage.
The more capable they make their drones the more people will have a need for them and want to buy them, regardless of competition. They also compete with themselves, they need reasons for customers to keep buying their drones instead of just keeping their old ones.

What DJI needs now is to have some kind of sensor systems to be installed on the ground in the proximity of an area and whenever the sensor detects moments the drone will get out there to scan and record the area and alarm the owner. If there is also thermal detection and AI usage on the drone, it will be the best consumer drone on the market.
I’m glad the matrice 30t is still able to provide better zoom and quality of materials and DJI not completely making it obsolete. And I’m sure the cost to make a 30t was too high compared to the sales, since they made a decision to keep essential tools and omit overkill specs.
That isn’t too uncommon or bad. If you had the drone fly a route that used its whole battery once a day for inspection and monitoring it would last 400 days before you need to replace the battery.

Yea, because a drone flying above you is very sneaky. Mass surveillance is done by stationairy cameras, not drones. Drones are used for searching for people who got lost, injured, etc. inspecting infrastructure, buildings etc.

This dock can only charge automatically, as for batter swapping, check out the Yangwang with drone dock, codeveloped by BYD and DJI.
Just get two, problem sorted! (Might not be quite as cost effective haha)

How is that supposed to work under FAA rules that require VLOS for drones in the USA?
There are already large companies for several years now that have gotten authorization from the FAA to fly BVLOS.
As with all rules there are ways around them, especially when you are a company with a lot of money.

Battery only has 400 cycle? Well
That's every 5.5 days a replacement battery, for round the clock air surveillance.
That isn’t too uncommon or bad. If you had the drone fly a route that used its whole battery once a day for inspection and monitoring it would last 400 days before you need to replace the battery.

Satellites are far more efficient.
Actually sattalite are not as good for 3D mapping. This is combine with lidar scanning to make a complete picture of buildings and other items.

I did not say these drones had lidar. What I said was this is a better mapping tool than 2D satellite imagery
