Back in 2011 I drove alongside one of these trains at night on my own, having no idea that such a track configuration existed. Imagine my surprise.

Awesome! Born and raised there, too. Rocky Mountain HS class of 1983 and Colorado State University class of 1988.

    Well done!
Liked seeing how early the grade crossing signals activate.
(We see you in the pickup truck's reflection at 6:15.)
Train should move faster and not block intersections so long.
7:49 and 8:39 - Why does it take so long for the signals to cease operating?

Awesome 3pk of SD40-2’s! It seems they’re just building a mild grade separation for the rails, with curbs?

I know railroads want to paint all their predecessors engines & cars & it does take a while to get them all which is why you catch a rare one every once in a while but eventually they get them all. I wish they'd set aside a few & just leave them with their old colors but fresh paint. It would be so awesome to see an actual Clinchfield, or Chessy system, Southern Pacific, Rio Grande, ect, ect, roll by. I know some of these railroads still have engines in old paint but there is always a patch with their new owner on it & its not the same.

Yes they are building curbs along the right-of-way to prevent motorists to drive into the train, so the tracks will be elevated about the streeet

very good footage. We don't have street running in western europe, I am very impressed.

Will trains continue running by this zone in the middle of downtown or rerouted to other area? I think this solution could save lives.

Amazing catches! I've been there once, seems like a cool spot (didn't see anything though.) On average, how many trains per day can be seen?

I suppose that in the early days of railway-building in USA it seemed sensible to take tracks down existing roads to get trains into towns and cities with least disruption

Is this railroad abandoned in the street right now?

Trains still run down the street in Fort Collins, but now it is like 16 individual crossings as opposed to one long stretch.
Before the rebuild, cars could turn literally in front of a train. Trains would only go through at 10mph which took a long time, now trains can do 25 through most of it, and 20 for part of it.

Fort Collins also would like a quiet zone.

    Is the track gone?

      @TrainsNStuff 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Nope. Still active, actually. I visited there in August, it was there.

It doesn't run in the street anymore. If you look up recent videos it runs in a ditch in the middle of the street with curbs on both sides.
