Jack was absolutely the best Columbo villain ever, 3X. That's because he was playing himself. According to both Shirley Jones and David Cassidy Jack was vain, insecure, arrogant, hungry for fame and more than a bit delusional. He channeled all those qualities into his Columbo villains.

The format for Columbo episodes was "how do ya catch em" rather than "whodunnit" already knowing that the prime suspect had committed the crime put the villain up against it. Suave and urbane Jack Cassidy was perhaps along with Patrick Mcgoohan the epitome of the bad guy.

Superb actor. Cassidy played the villain in three episodes of Columbo, with each character being utterly distinct from the other. It takes an actor of enormous skill to portray insincerity. In the hands of a less capable performer, it could come across as merely bad acting. If only Cassidy had been able to do more.

Jack Cassidy great actor, his personal life is pretty sad; a lot of people hate him for what he did to his own son David Cassidy.
David Cassidy said his father had a Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde personality; he could be the greatest father in the world one moment and the most evil person ever a second later.

Love that line right at the start; "I was informed about it when I came off stage..." Straight away Columbo seems intrigued - volunteers an alibi before he's even asked to provide one. Genius writing!

The more I see of Jack Cassidy's work, the more impressed I am. He was always my favorite villain on Columbo, and his comedic role in the "He & She" TV series from 1967 (look for that on TH-cam) was hilarious, and also revealed a truly remarkable singing voice.

It's really weird to see these now and realize they at that time are younger than I am now. When I saw these I thought they were pretty old. Wow. One time on a bus an old lady (probably not all that old actually) made me get off my seat for her elderly husband so he could have a seat...(might've been her dad, it's a long time ago and all people over 30-80 were great enigmas in terms of their ages)...and she glared fiercely at me and said "You'll be old one day too, you know!" and I jumped on my big sister's lap and tucked my head in her neck. I was terrified. (my sister was probably who she was mad at, actually, because she was quite the hippie then)
    VIVA COLUMBO!!!!
