Well you had me until you used the leather. In the picture I thought it was just a darker cardboard, or maybe painted cardboard. This is truly wasteful. Both my time and materials.

You can always replace the leather with sturdy fabric...cardboard wouldn’t have the flexibility to stand up to actual wearing of the sandal.
