    Fun/terrifying fact: Barracudas like to watch underwater welders while they work. They are attracted to the bright light and often hang out over the welder's shoulder and watch them weld.

    Honestly, I used to think this was a stupid show but I love the way he catches and releases, and the way he has a sort of reverential respect for the fish he catches. Also, the fact that he's not just a sports fisher, he knows what he's talking about!

    • @NPC1921
      @NPC1921 3 ปีที่แล้ว +43

      As an avid fisherman myself, I think the majority of fishing shows on television focus too much on the sport aspect of it, which is why River Monsters is a refreshing change of pace. Jeremy Wade is an angler first, but a biologist and conservationist second, so there is a much more dignified and reserved aspect to his presentation style.

      They are such good eats and for being so good they are massively swept on and overrated. A lot of people don’t think they’re edible and in some cases they aren’t because some that live by healthy reefs tend to have toxins in them but if you catch a healthy one they taste just like the best grouper you’ve ever had

      it looks about the same size as a pike from what I can tell, maybe the size of a small Muskie. all I'll say is to watch out for those teeth! a Pike just about sawed through a steel lead I had on my rod once! (kept trying to bite my feet as we brought it to shore, something which I think they have in common with barracudas judging by how that first one kept trying to get Jeremy's nose!)

    I've caught monster Cudas before but sadly the biggest I ever hooked managed to cut my line at the last moment after a 20 minutes battle 😢.
    Lesson learned: Always keep the fish in front of you and never let it go to the sides where your line will bend reaching its teeth.

    While fishing Boca Paila in the Yucatán I saw 2 barracuda that were over 9 feet long , estimated at over a hundred pounds, was able to get a picture of the smaller one. Right next to the spot where a 11 foot croc hangs out. I at first thought they were sharks until they turned and I saw the sides. Couldn’t believe how huge they were. Girth over 36 inches.

      So, they really can get that huge? It's silly but I'm arguing with some people on a post on Facebook about how massive these fish can get. They claim they don't get that big.

      They get massive. Those are strong fishes that have a very good survival rate because of how ferocious they are @@dieromantic3651

      You mean a pike? A croc wouldn't be in salt water ocean with a barracuda

    • @ricknelson7824
      @ricknelson7824 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The area is about 1/4 mile upriver from the ocean, mostly salt water, but the river empties a vast flats area, definitely seen the croc at least 10 times, and the barracuda were cruising through a school of sardines. Definitely were barracuda, there are videos of the croc stalking a swimmer, look for Boca Paila croc following swimmer. A very unique spot as the river is really short. Depending on tide the outflow sometimes stops.
