  • Kent shares about his three favorite torches and their uses. These include:
The Oxy-acetylene Welding Torch, the Swiss Torch, and Kent's favorite, the Blow Pipe.
Watch Kent do a metals melt and pour into an ingot mold using the Oxy-acetylene torch! Kent demos soldering platinum with the Swiss Torch, and with the Blow Pipe Kent shows how using a reducing flame prevents oxidation!

Excellent info! I just ordered my blowpipe torch, and it was nice to see how you do the circular breathing. I’ve learned so much from your online courses and these videos. Thank you Kent!

Good to see you here! Glad to hear my online courses have been good for you! Yes, we saw the discussion in Going Tubular. We go into quite a bit of depth in our in-person workshops and online groups that go with that class! Perhaps we will see you out here for a class one day! Thank you for being here with us!

    Thanks Kent, nice video. 👍
Haven't used a torch like your favourite since 1980.
Was a blast from the past seeing one.
I too have a Swiss torch and use it for melting platinum.
Your way of hearing your gold ingot mould was very clever, might just try that next time.
    Vert informative video.

Hi Kent, I loved all your explanations about your 3 favorite torches and uses. Thank you so much for sharing. I don't have a blow pipe torch but I am trying to make granulation. I have a swiss torch like yours and I would like to ask you, although I know you don't recommend it for granulation, which of his heads and tips could be best (or less worst) for this technique ? can you help me with this ? I also have a micro torch, but I think it is not recommended at all. Thank you so much. Yours sincerely, Fatima Ferreira

Thank you for the great vid. I have a Swiss torch that I never use because the B-size hoses are so heavy. I see you have some kind of clear tubing. Can you tell me what it is? Aquarium tubing? Thanks!

Hi Kent. Can the blowpipe torch be used with a disposable propane bottle and a preset regulator like the Smith Little Torch Propane Regulator 249-500B ?

I got a "Best of Luck" from Lynn when I asked about torch regulators, after purchasing an LP torch and Manometer from Karl Fischer as Kent recommends, so I don't think they're going to answer your question. The Manometer has a low-pressure cutoff, but it doesn't fit American propane tanks, so be careful taking Kent's torch recommendations in this video. They won't help you with the set-up.

Hey Kent, what are the cylinder and rectangle blocks that are in your soldering area? They look like concrete. Also, what do you use to oil your ingot mold? TIA

HI Linda, I think you're referring to the solderite board and fire bricks. wax, any wax for my mold.

Kent, what is the name of the brand for the blowpipe?

    • @herbhoover
      @herbhoover 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

You can get them from Karl Fischer, but be aware that the regulators don't fit American propane tanks.

If you didn't keep that oxy/acetylene flame moving, the tip would over heat real quick and backfire. Scares the hell out of me when it happens.
