Thought i might let you know that this is not the winds joik, and its not composed by Sofia Jannok. This is the joik of Mikkel Mikkelsen Buljo (Mihkelaš Mihkkal) and is a very old traditional and personal joik. His living relatives are not so happy about people calling it the winds joik.

@@hape3 As an artist she and others should know better and not name or call any personal joik for something it is not. This is not the joik of any wind, river, forest, mountain or whatever, this is the personal joik of Mikkel Mikkelsen Buljo (Mihkkelaš Mihkkal ) it is his musical identity, not the winds.

As a Joik sidheling I have to mention you do know a joik is 110% personal. It is one’s personal experience not the event nor the feels it’s the evanescent creation but never property of only and ever only the one who performed it. It’s like re-writing someone’s autobiography and getting credit for it, eg: problematic AF

I'm here in the third world - Brazil - thinking that I descend only from indigenous people and Mediterranean Europeans when DNA from Finns and people from the Volga appears to me. I am completely surprised and enchanted and looking to learn more about the culture of these people. I located the Sami people and their music and I imagine that the ancestor I dreamed of was a shaman from some village in Finland thousands of years ago - Olen täällä kolmannessa maailmassa - Brasiliassa - ja ajattelen polveutuvani vain alkuperäiskansoista ja Välimeren eurooppalaisista, kun minulle ilmestyy DNA:ta suomalaisista ja Volgasta.

Very similar to the native South American music called vidala from northwest Argentina and part of bolivia and chile, for the rhythm and the musical instrument. It is casuality ?

Would you be kind to ask him if it's sufficient to change the name or if he wants it removed? (if so, would he like to copyright claim it, so I can't use it in live performances,)
      🙂 an honest question.
I would like to honor the source of these joiks, I understand that they mean more than just a hum and a tune. But I can only act based on the information I have.

@@AnetteAgaMusic he is dead, sadly, and the joik isn't protected by copyright, so noone would be able to protect it using this, it's just sad that the real name of this joik isn't known enough for it to be called so, but from a media makers standpoint I would name it joik of the wind, because that's what most people know it as, so no need for a name change, as I never asked for one, I just said that Mihkelaš isn't happy about his joik being rebranded!

@@AnetteAgaMusic If u want to "honor the source" as you said then I would suggest you say in the description that it's originally made my Mihkelaš :)

@@refresh5690 I'm considering arranging this for choir, as Mihkelaš's Yoik, because I think it would be a very good way to introduce choirs to Sami culture and yoiking outside of the more commercialized usage of yoiks. However, I don't want to be disrespectful to Mihkelaš or his yoik - is there someone I could talk to about this?
