Oh my Mortis. I came home from the cancer ward and came across this post after settling in as best as possible. Thank you so much for doing what you do. It means so much to someone in my situation fighting a real life battle between good and evil on a daily basis. Where just a fraction of a moment can last a lifetime. This will lead me off into slumber and submission....not necessarily to the darkness-but your woven tapestry of tale and tangle. God Bless you my talented friend and may you get just a sliver of pure bliss from what you create. Because an overload would be imminent. (He smiles).

Dude you provide entertainment for so many people. Also you make it possible for me to fall asleep at night and for that I thank you. I grew up in and out of foster homes and at night I used to listen to old-time radio like The Shadow and scary programs to fall asleep. It's the only way I can. Thank you again. Getting lost on a hike as the sun slowly goes down is one of the most terrifying things ever, especially if you don't have the right gear.
Or a friend with you, whether a dog or another person. It's not really smart to go hiking or jogging alone.
I've been there, I was mountain biking in the middle of the woods and the sun was going down. I was terrified, as I also heard coyotes yelling in the distance. I had no gear with me, not even a first aid kit. from that day forward, I always bring a first aid kit on my rides.

Funny story in reference to the first narration of this wonderful 3 1/2 hours.
A man was camping in the Veldt of Africa and had lain down in his tent on his sleeping bag when he felt a very large, warm something suddenly pressed into his side through the side of the tent. He moved away and startled whatever it was.When he went outside to look he saw the animal running away and realized he had been cuddled up to full grown male lion. Scary or sweet? You decide.

I had it when I was little and I only get it once every month and it helps to close your eyes
When I was in my last month of pregnancy I had it every night/morning I woke up... it happened every night until I moved a little bit further back from the graveyard...
I had it 2 times in my life time.
As a person who lives where we sometimes have owls, this compilation actually woke me from my sleep highly annoyed at an owl whooting in the tree that is no longer in my yard because I had it chopped down 4 years ago! Then I realized it was in the stories!

During the Summer of 2012 I was backpacking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with my girlfriend at the time. We were hiking up a steep six mile trail to a campsite 4500' up the mountain. After getting a late start, we ended up having to traverse most of the trail in the dark. Two thirds of the way up the mountain my girlfriend stopped hiking and started crying hysterically. She was visibly shaking and said to me, "Jeremiah, I'm scared." I confidently replied that we were the apex predators and that there was nothing to fear. I told her that if anything approached us I would just give my most ferocious growl and that they would run away cowering. I let out my most intimidating roar as an example and not ten feet away in every direction at least six blood curdling growls responded back. I laughed it off, turned around, and continued up the trail. My girlfriend stood still frozen in terror, telling me that she wanted to return to the car. Being the "tough love" type I told her that she could return to the car, but that she would be doing it alone. The campsite was closer than the car at that point and I wasn't going to be descending the mountain until the morning. Of course she continued following me up to the campsite, sniffling to herself the entire way there. The rest of the night went by without occurrence and I slept soundly surrounded by my favorite wilderness I've yet to explore. Nothing else of consequence happened aside from some obvious arguing about how insensitive I was. Thinking back I was definitely a pompous ass about the whole ordeal. Also, one thing I never really gave much thought to was the fact that those growls were literally just a few feet away from us but we never heard a single footstep or any sounds of disturbed underbrush. Also, the growls were all very similar to each other and also to my own which had triggered them. It was obviously just a pack of coyotes or maybe even an unaccounted for pack of red wolves, but who really knows? The Native American Legend of the Wendigo is said to stalk it's prey and to feed off of their fear. It is also said to mimic the voices and sounds of it's prey in an attempt to intimidate them. I'm the pragmatic type and as much as I like to speculate, will most often lean towards realistic explanations for strange events. I will say that it is kind of fun to imagine that the Wendigo was preying off of my girlfriends fear but that my overwhelming confidence chased it off in search of easier pickings. Either way, it's scary to imagine what would have happened if I had continued up to the campsite and she had returned to the car. That my friends is truly scary to contemplate.

We were in Highland Arkansas in a tent in 2016, it was October and cold, so I couldn't sleep. We have in our arsenal a . 22. I got up and stirred the fire up to get warm. While I'm looking into the fire, I hear an animal coming through knee deep fall leaves. I am in the mountains, at the midhill point. This thing walks up to the top and stops. I can't see it, even with my flashlight. I step toward it and yell get out of here. I see eyes in my flashlight beam, they get a lot taller all of the sudden. These eyes are big and blue. I know it's a black bear. My heart is in my throat. We have only a .22, then I hear it sniffing. It walks up around us in the brush, stopping and sniffing. Man that was a long scary night. Coals were the only real weapons I had, hot glowing logs were my friend that night. When morning came I swore to my husband there would be no more camping without a shotgun!

I'll never forget my first time camping alone way back in my twenties. I had backpacked a few miles along the Appalachian Trail in South Central PA to a nice ridge line along some boulders and cliffs. It was early July and the temperature was perfect. Not too hot and not too cold. I set up camp and as dusk led to night, I realized that I had forgotten to bring a flashlight along. Dolt! Back then I didn't even have a cell phone to see by. I had no source of light aside from my lighter and the fire I had going. I had called it an early night and as I lay there relaxed and almost asleep I heard a loud sound just outside my tent. The fire had burned out and I sat there quielty shaking in fear as I listened intently. Again I heard the noise, and again, and again. Whatever it was kept making more and more frequent sounds as I sat there alone in the dark. The noises were so loud, I knew it couldn't be a rodent. That it just had to be a large predator. In fact, I had no doubt in my mind. I was terrified and couldn't help picturing a giant bear wrapping me up in my tent and devouring me like a giant neon spring roll. It's footsteps were thunderingly loud. Boom, boom, boom, boom... Finally my terror had reached a crescendo and the only thing I could think to do was to unzip my tent and jump out, roaring ferociously to let it know I wasn't to be messed with. Before my confidence wavered I unzipped the tent and jumped out screaming and roaring in my best impression of an apex predator. As I scanned the area I glanced down ino the valley to see the towns 4th of July fireworks going off not ten miles away. That's when I realized that the sound of the fireworks was echoing off of the cliff my tent was set up along. I stood there by myself and with all fear forgotten and laughed my ass off for a minute or so as I enjoyed the beautiful display from afar. Suddenly I didn't feel quite so lonely, and even the darkness had lost it's ability scare me. I have camped alone literally hundreds of times since and have only once gotten scared like that again. I sit here and chuckle to myself now just thinking of how sure I was that there was a bear outside of my tent that night. Now years later, I know that the scariest thing in the woods, the most dangerous thing, is us.
I was only 14, my two friends decided to go camping. My best friend said that her brother would be staying with us, so I thought okay, we'll be safe. He did come out to our camp site, but left us girls alone to leave with his buddies. About 2 am I hear paddles splashing in the river near us. My friends are still asleep. Thankfully my friend brought her German Shepherd dog with! King started this low growl, I'm freaking out. Then he started barking like crazy and I just let him bark! I was so grateful to have him with us that night. Two weeks later, about 12 miles from where we were, 2 young women were camping by another river. They were beat with canoe paddles and raped. They were lucky they survived. It still gives me the chills to think that it could have been us. Thank you King, you were such a great boy! 😇🐶🐕🕇
