The only problem I have is waiting until these constructions are completed before demolishing them. It's not even cost-effective,to the government.
Those who are acconplises to this should be fished out and punished!!!
Going forward, the environmental protection agency should hire people to look out for illegal constructions, so as to act in real time, not RETROSPECTIVELY!!!
This is a common problem in our cities and we must not live like animals!!
You see people selling in the middle of roads!!! That's not right!!!
The governments, not just the Lagos State government, need to do more.
It's about time to take drainages serious in Nigeria.
When are we doing away with open gutters that drains water to no where ?
God bless Governor Sam Mbakwe for championing the end to use of BUCKET SYSTEM OF STOOL DISPOSAL!!!
Open gutters have to go!!! Inground drainages that are actually channeled to somewhere is the way to go!!! Let's stop creating stagnant waters, growing mosquitoes, and save money from importing malaria medications and reduce mortality rates from mosquitoes and malaria!!!

I agree that to fix, we have to endure and let out sentiments. Flouting the law unknowingly should be properly investigated and compensated when necessary, not to just take a decision and implement.
I feel there’s double standards at play. You can punish those with illegal structures and leave those within the Lagos state system that encouraged the construction of the illegal structures. I don’t believe that the so-called offenders wouldn’t have built without necessary approvals. If the approvals were forged, what about the officials that kept inspecting during construction. Further, I want to believe that these fees (approvals fees etc associated to these demolished buildings) form a parts Lagos State IGR. Why don’t they investigate where collections are coming from and ascertain the authenticity. “Easy to collect but not easy to give back”.

Infact many of the government staffs would arm-tie you to make you, follow their methods to getting what you want. I have done something wright in the past and they fine me for doing that, until i was summoned to their offices, and made to do it their own way. This send a clear signal to me back then not to go through the normal route. I was one person who loves to follow procedures. In wanting to complain, i never knew no one was reasonable among them in the office to reason with the right thing to do. So, the lesson there was, doing it the right way, you will be terribly punished for it.
But here, the bosses would say these things, and you as q victim, how do you pursue your case? The people you are to report to, are the same people who victimized you.. so how, or what should people do?

Demolishing an illegal structures very close to the Canal is very good but based on some areas I have seen d demolition take place. The builder or developer complied with the code of building which is 3m away or even more. That's not all some people have even hijacked this program to go into an estate on a table land that doesn't have any Canal or swamp to be extorting money from the landlords who's building has been built n standing since 80s n 90s while the first story building is still standing in badagry n the first Baptist Church building still standing isn't that a wicked n devilish act. Lagos state government shouldn't create something that evil people will hijack to create eneminity for them.

A country that has been tagged " the world poverty capital+ 142 million people in multi- dimensional poverty( multi-dimensional in this context means intractably structural), therefore need more and more shelters for our population without breaking the land city codes/laws. The Lagos state planning authority must have given permit to this people to build. The planning authorities being corrupt, gives them permit to build, then your ministry goes and demolition their properties. Shouldn’t you fish out the people that gave them permit and punish them also? The planning authority knows that buildings should not be there, so why give them permit to build? The owners of these properties need to sue your ministry or the Lagos state government because it is still one of their agencies that gave them the permit to build. The property owners don’t have the master plan of Lagos so they cannot know it’s illegal to build anywhere, it's the duty of the planning authority to mark those building for demolition from day one, so I think this whole issue still boils down to the corruption in the Nigeria system and it's so unfortunate
