remember if you get the second smallest trailer it can also be turned into a flatbed for pallets and bales Daggerwin.
something else to keep in mind as well: once you own a modification for a vehicle or piece of equipment, you can swap between them for free once theyve been purchased
Theres another larger one that can do the same thing. If i remember right all of the dolly axle style tippers can do do this. As well as a couple pull behind ones.
@@nfsfanAndrew the two that are very similar in look can (may even be same brand) but there's more that can't be configured as a flatbed than can iirc
4m cuts are fine, just always do multiples of the length of tree you're cutting, if it's 36m tree do 6m 9m or 12m cuts which in turn gives you 3, 4 and 6 cut logs... if it's 12m do 4m or 6m cuts this way you never have to worry about the stupid end brush or uneven cuts of logs laying all about, I've been doing this since starting silverrun always check tree size of the ones you want to fell then set cut length on harvester to preference, also 9m logs are most profitable this time around you lose a couple hundred on 6m and almost a thousand on 12m so quite substantial in the long run, 12m logs make quick easy work of trees if you got all the right equipment and use containers but for beginning do 6m, upgrade asap to 9m, sell off everything except the harvester and house than buy better equipment...
The last time that you sold at the old mill it was also a really low amount. I wonder if it's because the old mill is meant for production. Maybe cut another redwood and try dropping it at the southern mill.

The wood prices should be able to be seen in the sell price list. Should show both mills and their prices

I'm thinking the developers intentionally made the redwoods worthless to cut as that is realistic. They are truly worthless for any form of wood work. Hence why they survived the logging era of America. They shatter and splinter as soon as they hit the ground and so aren't worth the massive effort to fell. You would think they would be an extremely strong wood but they aren't. I grow giant sequoias and plant them in different states to help preserve the species. They actually thrive all over the world. They are just native to California. Another surprising feature is you would think that massive of a tree would have deep roots. Nope. They have shallow roots that spread wide instead of deep. They actually breath air thru their roots close to the surface and can absorb water from the air moisture. Part of why they are dying out in the extreme California drought
@daggerwin If you pick up the logs in the middle of the trunk, it makes it so much easier. Akso I think 6m logs would fit perfect for your Forwader. You get more money the longer they are.
I feel like if he lined up the cutter it would drop them right onto the forwarder.
The "tree transporter" is actually called a forwarder. Also using a Prentice loader (the excavator thing with the grapple) with a semi trailer you'll find works quite well.
This is such an awesome expansion for the game. The map is beautiful. And that’s and understatement. The new equipment is awesome and the productions and contracts are great.

The train is related to the yellow car. They are cousins and heard everything about you from his little yellow cousin.
Dag, fell your trees with the Harvester head turned to the left or right but get your machine closer to the tree (bring the head about half way between fully extended and pulled in tight to you) then swing to the side your going to pile just a little. And process closer to the ground will make neater piles for you. Cheers

I live in the redwoods in California, and we do harvest them for timber. It's a very common building material around here, Although it is getting more expensive. But it's rare to see a deck in my region that is not made of redwood. We also use it as trim for windows and doors (I work in construction) and entire homes and barns used to be framed entirely out of redwood. I also know a lot of artisans who use it in their own projects. Redwood reforestation and old growth conservation is also extremely common. The loggers are not allowed to take old growth any more (so far as I know) but second growth is still harvest and replanted
Dont try to rush things, take your time. You dont need to be able to show all the new things before this comes out. Very excited for the series and cant wait to play it tomorrow!

Dec. 6, 2022 Mr. D, you're probably already aware of this by now, but you only get around $2 each for the deadwood trees and even when you make woodchips out of them, you barely get anything from them. Check the Fire Dept for a collectible. You are correct sir. There is NO Iron Furnace on the map. You have to place your own.
Lodgepole Pine pay the best; Ponderosa Pine pay 2nd best; 9meters is the best length, especially when using containers.
Enjoying the series so far! I'm not a fan of forestry myself but I appreciate being able to live vicariously through your logging adventures.
I am absolutely loving these videos and can't wait to play the DLC now! Have you thought about putting the iron foundry at the mine? It looks like you can purchase the land and it would be right where you need it.
I think you really should lean into the logging aspect on this map. There is a need for wood everywhere and you can turn vast hills into a carefully crafted farm of trees
I have noticed when you grab a log toward the middle of the log it loads very easily. Usually you are grabbing on one end and therefore unbalancing the log on the grab. It is then difficult to place on the transporter as it tends to droop onto the ground rather than be horizontally dropped onto the transporter. I think by balancing the log on the grab it will be quicker and easier. Hope this is helpful.
You should get the 3-point Logging Blade mod for straightening the log piles, or use the winch as a pusher.
After you cut the tree lift your boom up a little and hit reverse. The log will fall away from you. It will take a bit of practice but you got this.😊
Just out of curiosity, is deadwood more valuable as wood chips than lumber? It didn't account for much when you delivered it to the production and it looked like there was some in the large load you delivered to the sawmill today.

Drive over the southwest bridge. Turn right on the paved road. Turn right after the big rock. Drive over the bridge. Find the fire tower. In the shelter, there is a collectible. It's near farmland 25.
9:50 the FRA needs to put up a crossing gates at that level crossing so things like this doesn't happen but it's a farming simulator and there isn't damage that trains can do, like taire a trailer in two off a sumi truck. Just to name one of many
While both large, Redwoods and giant sequoias are different trees found in different areas of California. Redwoods tend to be taller, while the giant sequoias tend to be wider. Source: I've been to visit both the largest standing redwood and the largest standing giant sequoia.
Watching Daggerwin loading woods is a pain 🤣

If he picked the logs up in the middle it would be much less of an issue
I'm starting to think he does it on purpose because everytime it happens he's always like "oh no", in very soft non chalant voice hahaha...
keep going with 2 vids a day its awesome. keep it for maybe 2 weeks because its so exciting that logging finally gets its deserved love
There are fast production-high capacity silos that automatically turn loose grass into silage, forage header attatchments for the front of independant trailers that can be used to cart grass+silage (and nearly anything else thats loose fill) available to everybody on modhub, 2 decent sized fields with a bunch of flat ground around them (pretty close to a sell point), and are practically begging to get plowed in with actual field grass. Could be a very good supply of money over time, would help a shed-ton with the monster equipment and production facilities costs you (and the rest of us along for the ride with you) are gonna need to aquire.
Planting trees is an investment to make more materials over the long run, planting grass for constant silage is an investment to have more cash available when you are IN the long run.
With regards to the log forewarder, when using a grapple that just freely floats around like most of them, picking up the logs at the center instead of the ends makes it miles easier to move them around since they don’t drag and all that
Dagerwin there is a bear collectable in the fenced in area at the mine. The gate is open and you can walk up to it.
Also the wood show room by the wood turner you own is where the statues go to when collected
There is also a train collectable in the same area. The bear is on the left side of the area at the mine and the train is in a box on the right side of the mine
I think i see a collectable @11:20 it appears to be on the roof of the building your passing by as your saying they would be somewhere of intrest lol hope this helps!

A fun fact about the redwoods is that they are essentially useless for woodwork. This is the only reason they exist today. They weren't worth the effort to cut down because of how big and the fact they just shatter and splinter upon hitting the ground. Their poor use for human consumption saved a magnificent species of trees that's been around since the dinosaurs.
It's alot easier to load wood if you park the machine in the end of the logpile instead of alongside. And pick them up in the middle.
Have you noticed you have access to a forklift at the southern sawmill? It's parked in the shed.
Logging is easier if you harvest trees directly into your transporter. Just launch them in with the cutter when you cut them.
Once the tree is highlighted press and hold the align to tree button then it will automatically align so you don’t have to play with your mouse so much
Great video Dagg i recommend you turn off automatic cut in settings, will be much easier to make piles! 😄

Hey daggerwin hope your doing good, looking forward to this dlc haven’t played farm sim in a while, really enjoying the series it’s something different to crops and livestock.
If you are having trouble with the cranes, i picked up an old Logitec attack3 for $20 on the used market, and it has been an absolute game changer for me. It has a much more intuitive feel than the mouse (or even a controller)

@Daggerwin idk how else to get ahold of you so hopefully you see this comment, but in your survival series on FS22 in the playlist you have videos 53 and 54 swapped so when viewing the playlist it will go to episode 54 on video 53 and vice versa!! hope this helps and you are able to fix it for anyone in the future doesn't have the confusion I just had. LOL loving the series thus far though
@daggerwin when using the crane to move logs, pick them up in the middle. they will balance and make your life much easier
Im enjoying this series so far, its great to see you embracing your inner lumberjack but I would like to see more of the loading with the forwarder and less super strength.
I had a hard time getting used to the log loading trailers and found moving to two joysticks was a massive help, it doesnt feel so hard after maybe 20 minutes of getting used to the controls. you should give it a try.
Yea, super strength for the logs is kind of silly. I understand pallets of products, you'd realistically be able to deconstruct and reconstruct a pallet of finished goods, but a 5 ton log...

Love the series so far i know where one of the colektibles are if you go to the mine and follow the rails you vill find a cave entrens there is a collectible in the cave
Use the red cutting machine to load the yellow Volvo. When cutting logs, just make sure they fall straight into the bed of the yellow Volvo
You need to get a joystick like the Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS Joystick, look it up online they don't too much, it will doing loader work a lot easier

I grow sequoias. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to help an endangered species of tree that's lived for thousands of years
There are some amazing Redwoods in Scotland, seeing is believing they are larger than I could imagine.
Just a heads up. You can sell redwood trees for lumber, but good luck, there's a process and permits that are needed.
at the 31:33 point in this video there was a small figure in the open area of that facility. I doubt a collectable would just be sitting in plain site but I thought id mention it
There is a collectable in the mineshaft, all the mine cart tracks lead to it so it shouldn’t be that hard to find
Instead of throwing the branches from the redwoods randomly, you can cut them up with the chainsaw and theyll disappear.
You can still see the loaded weight of a vehicle by going to the "Owned Items" tab in the menu and highlighting the vehicle in question.
If I'm not mistaken you can get free planks from the southern sawmill after you've sold them wood for the rollercoaster or boat production great video. Really can't wait till tomorrow when it releases for us
Irl felling redwoods is tricky because the tree has to be dropped very gently or else the wood shatters (ie lay a mattress of brushwood to land on). And probably isn't a great wood for most purposes anyway. Seen it used for cladding shingles, nothing else I can think of. Yankee candle scent, maybe.

Dag, first off found your channel through a recommended video after watching Frithgar and your content is excellent. Secondly, it depends if that is a Sequoia or a California Redwood, If it is a Sequoia you are in the clear to cut them down depending on the area you tree harvesting but California Redwoods are a protected species as I think only like 5% are left. However I am pretty the game has classed trees like the one you cut as Giant Sequoias so you are safe.
The game is referring those big trees to Giant Sequoias. From what i understand, Redwood and Sequoias look the same but are very different. However, it is still a protected tree and logging stopped on it a century ago because the wood is brittle, so maybe that's why the pay was far less significant for them when you sold.
I actually believe its because he didn't cut the branches off. You get almost nothing selling trees, but make substantially more selling logs. The straighter and less branches, the more money. I'll have to experiment on it when I get home tonight.
You can sell the crane and use the chainsaw. Super strength it on a lorrie. Like always super strength everything.

Redwood should be worth far more, i don't get why they made them worthless as its the best timber. No point in even setting them.

@Daggerwin, love this series and can't wait to play with the Platinum edition my self, also here is a tip to make good money. You should hire a cheap telehandler and the log fork, then cut long logs and load the trailer full up, you would make tons of money especially if you make pepper grinders or bowls.
@daggerwin have you considered having your forwarder right next to you when you cut the trees and cut them straight into the forwarder?
If its a help with the tree harvester once you have cut the tree lift the arm up and reverse a little it will 9/10 times fall in front of you.
You should check the old sawmill for collectibles.
For environmental reasons dead trees should be left standing in the forest. They are an important habitat for insects.
Please do poplars on this series as its all about trees!!
the old sawmill doesn't seem to pay squat for lumber. should have taken to the sawmill in the southwest corner
I'm not sure why the redwood sold for so little. It is a useful wood and is still being logged, just mostly managed woodlands now not old growth.
If you go in the mine there is a bear collectible and in town there is a shop that shows all the collectibles

Actually Daggerwin the redwoods fill up your sawmill very fast
The trick of loading lumber is to grab it from center.
Try looking on the selling page on the menu to see if there's an iron furnace that buys products

Personally I think plot #41 was the way to go. Only 50k and it would have been wide open. Granted it would be a long drive from the mine, it would have only been an issue until you got a faster truck. Just my .02, love the series so far
I would strip the land of all the trees before you make a decision on selling the land.

Try keeping an eye open while in the forests for those collectables :)
Sequoias were added as a placeable in the decorations tab. Im wondering if those trees are considered decoration pieces and thats why they're worth barely anything. I believe you can plant your own with the new saplings. If thats true the ones you plant yourself might be worth it.
There's also another collectible inside the iron mine just below the place you get the iron ore at. You have to go inside and to the left of the shaft
