Seeing an ad about a place in Italy way out of your budget seems to be a timeless thing

The characters seem so relatable it's scary 😂 Especially the one who wants to be alone in the garden!

Since I am mostly a back list reader I really appreciate these 12 decades of Christmas reviews. I have The Enchanted April on my shelves. Reading it this coming spring sounds like a plan.

Thank you! When I had the idea, before I did the maths, I was worried I was going to have to find a book from the 2020s to talk about, because I don't think I've actually read one yet 😅

Oh, how i love this book, this author!! Father is also quite good, and i also really liked Vera. Im obsessed lately with the early- mid 20th century , buying up all the British Library Women Writer series, reading gem by gem! BLWW is printing another von Arnim, available in US in June, Intro to Sally. Can't wait.

That sounds like a fun collection, I wasn't aware of it before. Lots of authors I haven't heard of before, I'll have to check some of these out (and maybe drop into the British Library shop next time I'm in London). I do love that period in literature as well.

Hello Claudia, The enchanted April is one of my favorite books. it was funny, descriptive, and unique. I’ve read another of the authors books I’ve loved “Father” and though it has more plot than the enchanted April, a bit more sadness, I highly recommend it. wonderful review as usual. Aloha friend.

Loving your 12 Decades of Christmas book reviews. They also seem serene on the surface but show hidden depths. Now this book I have not read, but like other commenters I loved the movie and look forward to see how well the book was adapted. Thank you for your insights.

I started seeing this video. Was intrigued. Found an audiobook edition in my subscription. Started listening, and enjoyed it so much! I'm now 65% into my second novel by this author: Vera. Very different, but just as excellent. Thank you 🙂🙂

This book is *playful.* It has social satire that makes you think, yes, and it has humor, but the entire time the author is playing with you. One of the loveliest playful things the author does is have a character say something, which the narrator immediately repeats word-for-word, usually in a very different tone is often with exactly the opposite meaning. It really is a quiet tour-de-force.
