    I had a similar tick to a bunch of these videos. 2006 G35x. Tick sped up with engine rpm. I was dead set on it being a massive timing chain issue. Car ran fine otherwise. Finally after 6 months of cruising the net looking for answers, and having a couple techs shrug their shoulders, I finally decided to take a real good look. Took the engine covers off and went at it with a stethoscope. To my surprise, there really wasn't any noticeable tick coming from the front cam and timing covers. Poking around some more I finally rested the scope on the first ignition coil left side of engine, 1st from the front. Bam, very loud ticking. Putting my fingers on it I actually felt it. Removed ignition coil to find coil boot MELTED. Spark plug loose in the cylinder as well must have caused heated gasses to melt the boot. New plug, new coil and boot, TICK GONE. Listen closely to your tick. The sound of a coil electrically arcing sounds like a tick or a snap. I was lucky, that coil looks like the easiest one to get to. Have a poke around and listen to your coils.

    Had the same annoying ticking noise, wanted to bring a car to dealership for diagnostic. Thanks for video and comments. Fixed by my self. Detect which cylinder is ticking using long screwdriver, just touch coil with it and you will feel ticking vibration with your finger tip. Bought ratchet set with 5/8 spark plug socket, and new spark plug. NOISE GONE!!!!!!!!!!!! SAVE $$$$$

    Watching this video saved my bacon - I had the EXACT same tick as in this video (just today!). I listened to each coil with a stethoscope and found 2 cylinders making this noise. I found that the plugs had backed out quite a bit. I tightened them up and the tick is gone. Thanks to those who had the right answer - it was the plugs. (Just had to tighten them up).

      To my amazement two of the spark plugs were not even finger tight in the rear bank. 188,000 miles, purchased it with 183,000. Appeared to be original plugs. Had to replace rear valve cover due to spark plug seals. Very pleased when ticking stopped, goal was new valve cover, new valve cover gaskets leaking badly, and new plugs. Thought ticking would remain. It did not!

    Same exact sound. I actually started using Synthetic oil about a year ago and never had a problem with regular oil.
    Took it to a Nissan Specialist mechanic. He told me it's not too bad and just to keep an eye on the oil. I also suspect its the oil because the noise is more evident on the cold engine. This mechanic said not to use Synthetic on these cars because 'it'll just burn more oil'.. Huh!?

    I just snagged an 04 6mt from an Audi dealership (traded in) and they told me it was the timing chain. I had that replaced through my mechanic which ended up being $1100. Still same sound and now he’s talking about replacing the heads, head gaskets and shit with the lifters. Looking at $2200-$2600 in parts and labor. Not a lifter. Engine doesn't use lifters. They use shim buckets instead. Not hydraulic. I think i hear a bad fuel injector and possibly a bad timing chain/tensioner. 2 separate noises. G35s are known for that. Worked on a few. Nice cars.

      You have it backwards. During cold season you switch to lighter weight oil in hotter time you do a lil heavier weight in oil. Because heavier oil in cold weather slows down the flow because of the viscosity.

      Lmao my best guess is the valve lash caps.. the gap between the cam lobe and the cap is too much and with the lobe comes around its slapping the cap. Best way to check which is your bad one is to get a feeler gauge. Check all your cam and cap gaps with the feeler gauge. Should be around 0.011 - 0.016. Any one over is are bad.. but the piston has to be at dead top center to check it.

      Pretty sure I have answered the questions already. The lash cap gab. Need to check it with a feeler gauge to check the gap. If the gap is too big then you have to get a bigger (thicker) cap

    lifters, clean your engine with seafom & switch oil.

    • @LuisS1k_
      @LuisS1k_  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Negative.. that doesn't fix the gap between the lash cap and cam lobe.. in order to get rid of the tick you need a valve adjustment..

    • @ayylmao5880
      @ayylmao5880 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Astat4 It does reduce and/or eliminate the problem temporarily, sorry I didn't specify, how much did the valve adjustment cost or did you do it yourself?

      Spark plugs are loose, while in there replace valve cover and gasket and plugs.
