THE PYRENEAN GOAT. HUESCA, SPAIN

The Pyrenean goat breed has historically been distributed throughout the western Pyrenees, from the Atlantic to the Upper Garonne and Aragon. Since ancient times it has been a goat highly prized for its rusticity and milky capacity.
Pyrenean goats are svelte, woolly and with an arc-shaped antler, representatives of the ancient Aegagrus goat. During the twentieth century its census has been reduced. In the two slopes of the Pyrenees, other populations of goats have penetrated with which it has been mixed. Today there are small differences between the French and Spanish goat populations.

La raza caprina pirenaica se ha distribuido históricamente por la zona occidental de los Pirineos, desde el Atlántico hasta El Alto Garona y Aragón. Desde la antigüedad ha sido una cabra muy apreciada por su rusticidad y capacidad lechera.
Las cabras pirenaicas acostumbran a ser esveltas, lanudas y con cornamenta en forma de arco, representantes de la antigua cabra aegagrus. Durante el siglo XX su censo se ha ido reduciendo hasta casi desaparecer. En las dos vertientes de los Pirineos han penetrado otras poblaciones de cabras con las que se han mezclado. Hoy se aprecian pequeñas diferencias entre las poblaciones de cabra francesa y española.
