That was interesting Joss. Interestingly, I was up there a month ago and visited that Caban at the top which does indeed contain old miners clogs and bits and bobs. Its obviously used as a bothy as there's a stove in there and people are obviously staying there. I was with the climber John Redhead which as you've climbed you will have heard of as he made some of the hardest routes of the day in the quarries. He showed me an interesting way to the caban. We squeezed down a narrow gap as the base of a cliff which came out into a tunnel. That in turn led to-I think it was the Australia quarry?- From there it was a long scramble over huge blocks. Eventually we reached the final two tiers where the fun really begins! Old rusty ladders are bolted into the sheer walls. The final tier requires you to step across from one ladder to another which is at 90o degrees to the one you are on. The top ladder has missing supports and is tethered by an old climbing rope so it twangs as you climb it. At one stage I put my foot on a rung...which wasn't there!. As you are several hundred feet above the quarry floor its 'interesting! When you emerge at the top you are a few feet from the top caban. There's an easy way up/down which we went down which has a name which sounds like something from Lord of the Rings? Just a long walled incline. If you've climbing experience you'd enjoy what I called 'the rusty ladders of death!' I though it might make an interesting vlog. Sending up the drone and filming an ascent of said ladders looking down. So you get the full impact of the exposure.Might do it on a good day.
Black Dog Vantrails thank you. Yes I know who John Redhead is.. an interesting guy. I did film a short piece to camera about Johnny Dawes’ The Quarryman’ but then edited it out as I thought it might be boring for the non-climbers. I will go back to find the Caban. I didn’t realise that people were kipping there. Theres a link up of features called ‘Snakes and Ladders’ graded at HVS I believe..? Thanks for watching, atb Joss
What a place! Another great video thanks for making it. I wonder how much the footfall will increase now its UNESCO World Heritage. I'll certainly visit soon.
@@jossthomas123456 well there was a party in the mess hall recently at least 14 tents camped within sight of each other. See 20m into this by the Twin Peaks lads, not a great night's kip for them. th-cam.com/video/CthLWctgbcY/w-d-xo.html
@@jossthomas123456 I hope not, hadn't noticed that. To be fair to those who made the video, they did not start the fire. I had planned to camp there last week but was too ill, I'd rather visit and hike bow than camp there, those who mad ethe video said there were at least 14 other tents there. Re the disco in the mess hall (or any other late loudness) I'd be very worried about what would happen if a fracas escalated. I've seen a video on Cader Idris where some more hedonistically inclined campers plaid loud music until 5am. No idea what the solution is. Luckily there are loads of other places to camp, but it's a shame that I might never camp there.
'What a place ' is a pretty apt description 🙂. Looks fantastic and very atmospheric I reckon. Reminds me of the Coniston Fells in the Lake District. Great film Josh 👍
Fantastic video. Love your filming style. My nephew and I watched this together today. He is only 4 and he was very concerned about the derelict buildings.
Not sure if you'll see this comment as the video is 2 years old, but my grandad and uncle once wild camped here, in one of the old mine buildings, and at night thought they could hear slate being moved or broken. Could've been sheep, but it scared them enough not to come back there to camp!
Hi Emma, thanks yes I try and reply to all comments! Thanks for watching and for the interesting story! Spooky! There are a lot of Goats around.. or should that be Ghosts?! Funnily enough I had a spooky experience there myself, possibly in the same cabin that your Uncle and Grandad camped in.. take a look! th-cam.com/video/bIL83LC8aYI/w-d-xo.html

If you've climbing experience you'd enjoy what I called 'the rusty ladders of death!'
I though it might make an interesting vlog.
We camped there in the early 90s and the rain lasted it down. A place that is steeped in atmosphere.
Stephen Curwood the atmosphere there is tremendous! Thanks for watching
What a place! Another great video thanks for making it.
I wonder how much the footfall will increase now its UNESCO World Heritage.
I'll certainly visit soon.
Thank you, I will be watching developments closely! Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@jossthomas123456 well there was a party in the mess hall recently at least 14 tents camped within sight of each other. See 20m into this by the Twin Peaks lads, not a great night's kip for them.

@@stevewebb2102 just had a quick look… not impressed with that campfire, they seem to be burning a wooden beam.
RickT Outdoor/Adventure thanks Rick it was great to be there- a fantastic place👍 atb Joss
Fantastic video. Love your filming style. My nephew and I watched this together today. He is only 4 and he was very concerned about the derelict buildings.
Worms Eye View thank you 👍 My son is 4 and he was really interested in the ‘fallen down houses’ too! Thanks for watching and commenting! Atb Joss

Awesome video mate, like watching a documentary on TV , really well presented and filmed, lots of interesting info and amazing scenery, it's a stunning location that. you have to keep your wits about you as you said, really atmospheric with the music and scenery, great video mate 👍 ATB
Gaziano Outdoors thanks my friend, really appreciate that, thank you👍
Beautiful spot there Joss, love the history lesson about the quarry and buildings. Shame you can't bring tons of slate down with you, there probably a lot of value still left up there. Cracking images as always, really enjoyed this. Lee
Burton Outdoors thanks Lee yeah there some interesting things up there. Thanks for watching buddy, much appreciated, atb Joss
Hey Joss great video. I used to spend time up around the quarry, Llanberis Pass, Cromlech Boulders and Cenotaph Corner back in 1975-8 ish. It is lovely up/down there. Thanks for making this video. It brought back a bunch of fond memories. Can I ask where you found the collapsible pot/kettle with lid please? Keep up the good work! ;-)
Colin Callan thank you! Glad it bought back some good memories for you, its a remarkable place. Fantastic. Thanks for watching and subscribing- the kettle is a Sea to Summit X kettle, I often use it as a cooking pot and eat from it too, its very handy. Link below, atb Joss

Wild Camping Welshman its fascinating mate. I’d recommend it👍
Been many times over the years .It use to be very bleak in the 70's >The ground can be a issue for pegs .But as you found.Plenty of slate to assist !
carforumwanker thanks mate. Yeah hell of a place- must have been a lot more intact in the 70’s. Atb Joss
@@jossthomas123456 I first went in 74 with my father .it had only been closed a few years . The stuff that was left there was truly amazing .But over the years either got stolen or wrecked . In the very late 90's a lot of "madness" was going on sometimes . Get some local lads messing around in cars etc .
carforumwanker thanks mate that is fascinating. I visited a jetcrash site recently and apparently a lot of that wreck gets stolen too. Sad really. Atb Joss
Great video, very interesting. Would have loved to have seen that hidden cabin, shame it's beyond reach now
All The Bees Are Dead thank you. There is a way to get to it, up over the other side of the quarry, where I first entered. I would have gone there but ran out of time so I shall definitely make a return visit and video. Thanks for watching, atb Joss
Hey Joss, what a stunning place, just think how bloody long it must have took to build some of them structures. Great camera work there mate. Cheers, Ant 👍

@@jossthomas123456 im just putting together a new channel dedicated to ww1 and 2. . You will be informed on my channel soon 😊
Billy`s Little BIG adventure channel that sounds excellent. I do a bit with a group of relatives of the crew of HMS Gloucester from WW2, Sunk in the Battle of Crete. My Grandads brother went down with the ship aged 21. Will be a real honour to march on the Cenotaph to lay a wreath in London on Remembrance Sunday this year👍 good to keep the history alive.
