I went to Pricemart in April and the only thing that I have topped up on is the case of tissue I still have grocery from that time and I shopped for house of 4. The only thing we buy on weekends is meat kind and we spent 100k at pricemart and as i said before we still have groceries from that time till now. Yes it is expensive here in Jamaica but you have to shop wisely look for the cheaper places and buy in bulk so it serves longer.

I dont know how people are surviving out here. And its not only Megamart as some other commenters are saying. We shop other places and it just as bad. Buy a few snacks and is 10grand. Buy any fast food at all is at least 2-3 grand. Dont even talk bout TOLL. No wonder every song is about scamming. Thats the wrong thing obviously but if them going work so hard and still can't buy anything....jah know. When people can't provide for themselves all rule of law go out the window. Still the best country in the world but I dont think people realize how serious things are getting 😕. Hope we don't turn into Haiti

Even though its hard people still shop hard, also every day the fast-food places are overfull. The different class of people will have different comments. For me I buy in bulk so I don't buy the same stuff every month and my family is 3 of us. I roughly will spend $25,000 per month I eat mostly vegetables, chicken, ackee and saltfish, meat now and again. I make porridge twice a week with lasco which is better than eating 4 slices of bread for breakfast. We have to just know how to shop make use of the wholesale prices. Buy in bulk yea. I don't complain much as God is good and life CD always be worst. Everywhere in the world life is hard for some persons.

The hand towels is pretty expensive only bought 2 for the month with household of 4. I use the soft kitchen cloths for wiping up mess that might leave on the counter so forth. Pretty much Jamaica expensive however spend wisely is what I do tax is 15% so somethimes most things are bought in linstead market or wholesale. The pineapple you could get right at bogwalk its more expensive in the supermarket. Not to mention meat Oxtail a brush nearly $2000. Hope you enjoy you all vacation 😊...started watching since year never stop from then...bless

Chrissy Jamaica cost of living is expensive but it’s even more expensive when you go to mega mart…. They are very expensive if you had gone to a regular supermarket it would have been less expensive. My monthly shopping is like 50k per month sometimes less if I don’t have things from the previous month as it’s just me alone this includes Pricesmart/supermarket and meat shop. The amount of things you got from mega mart is not worth the amount that was spent.

Let me share something with you Cushane and Crissy, I went to the supermarket yesterday 1.7.2022. The few things that I could afford to buy it was over $10,000 and I didn't get alot of what I need. I had to buy some in 5lbs and 2lbs, I cut down to my last straw and can't cut anymore, buy the end of the I have to be going back to het other things and even what ran out. I didn't even buy any toiletries, soap powder, meat yet and market stuff. I have a family of 4 and 3-4 times for the month I go shopping. I've never seen this kind of hardship in all my life. Some people are still getting minimum wage $9000 per week. Bills, food, household items, rent, children going to school, check that out. Guy's it's all gone, nothing is left in Jamaican.

Okay now, let's be realistic, 35,000 Jamaican dollars is just about 200 USD. That's quite decent for the items you bought, even in USA standards. Prices have increased worldwide. Many times people visit and when the go to purchase items, the first thing they do is complain. Prices in the USA will be lower in some instances because of economies of scale, high import taxes and transportation cost incurred by business owners in countries like Jamaica. In my opinion, absolutely nothing is wrong with the cost of those items.

@@tastesweet9027 you speak ignorantly. Firstly cost of living varies in Jamaica based on where you live. I can assure you that even the cost of snacks will be different at different places in the one parish. Additionally it's funny to see the people who are maybe talking about living within their means. What do you do for a living? I ask because I am not a flamboyant person, I have never partied, don't shop and all that so I live within my means but the question was whether or not food is expensive and it is. If you don't know it is maybe your means is above the average person's own or you are clearly not the one spending so you just talk freely from an uninformed place.
