I don't know if this experiment true or false but when I was doing night shift I experienced a lot of emotional and mental changes within me and I can confirm that lack of sleep will definitely cause some unexpected problems.

My mom asked me to take a bath and eat , did that all but took a long time to relax my mind and fall asleep. Another reasearch was done which was legitimate and humane. It was found after basic 4 days you lose your thinking ,calculative and decison making abilities and with time it decreases in a huge rate. The person only did that for 7 days and due to health reasons he was told not to continue but yeah .
I once had not slept for 48 hrs straight and felt like I was drugged and couldn't walk properly and felt shorter or as if I was drowning while standing on land ,so the fact that a person can go insane due to prolonged period of lack of sleep is probably possible
