    Great video, thanks for the upload.
    I've just started my first ever bike restoration, of a Dawes Atlantis.
    It has a nice set of Weinmann Type 730s which still work incredibly well and shouldn't take too much to clean up and reuse.
    Chuffed to bits.

    Another fantastic, educational video from @velocipedium
    Just a quick question, are they 810 type for both front and rear?
    Thanks again.

    My F.C. Parkes Lightweight from 1952 has G.B. Sports Alloy side pull callipers and they still work well.

    Hello , beginner here. Thank you for this video. I just purchased a 1974 Raleigh Grand Prix and through your video discovered the breaks are weinmann alloy. It’s so exciting learning everything part by part.

    Thank you for that. Swapping the top pull / bottom pull rear brake anchor points is a really great tip. Namaste x

    Great video. I'm having issues with my caliper. It's too weak, and since I installed a mid drive kit, the brakes aren't even enough. I tried changing cables, shoes etc with no improvement. I did notice it biting better when I lubed in-between the arms and washers, but it's still not enough. Should I replace the caliper? The arms are 2D like you mentioned.

    Just the type of videos I like to find on youtube! I recently finished restoring an old Bianchi 841 rekord roadbike and was looking for tips on how to setup the brakes and I stumbled upon this video. Perhaps not exactly the information I was looking for, but I do love these types of videos,, where older knowledgeable and experienced, well spoken people explain stuff to beginners. This is the type content I come to youtube for :)

    Is there any way to beef up these U brakes to give a bit more stopping power? Bigger pads?

    • @unbalancedcrank
      @unbalancedcrank  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Modern pads, and my recommendation is Kool-Stop, Salmon coloured pads.

      They were actually invented by Raleigh and called the Raincheck. They are an improvement

    these are better than the crappy v brakes on modern mountain bikes and even a little sturdier than modern calipers on road bikes.

    Thanks for this, most useful as I'm refurbing my puch 3 speed atm with weinmann 810's. I would be interested in the setting up process so look forward to that video, could you also cover the correct assembly sequence as well, particularly where the washers are concerned as I understand this is vital to having a smooth operating brake without excessive play.

      Nicholas Starmore i eas going to record that video today, but i need a camera operator, so it will be tomorrow. I wasn’t going to show the fitting/ assembly but i will if possible.
