I just wish the automakers went back to making smaller, more human-sized trucks like the good old Mazda B1300/1800 (Ford Courier, and the early Ford Ranger) series. They just keep growing and growing in size, it's ridiculous. Here in Chiang Mai, Thailand, I often see the older Toyota Hilux, occasionally even a first and second gen from the 1970s, they're still being used as the daily workhorse - they are much smaller in size than most current trucks. The older Mitsubishi L200 and Isuzu KBs are still here on the road as well, simple and practical, still going strong from the 1980s.
2025 Maverick now offer AWD & 4K towing for the hybrid model. I received my Lariat trim with these options a few weeks ago. Couldn’t be happier; I traded in my loaded 22 XLT 2.0 turbo that I loved too!
I consider pickup capabilities such as towing and cargo the same way I consider ammo - Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
I’d rather have a 1950’s, 60’s, maybee even a 70’s ford or Chevy anything. With points, and a carb. Manuel trans. 15”tires. Can be re-built with a 7/16”3/4” wrench set, two screwdrivers, and a pair of pliers. Last 30+ yrs. And no need for airbags. Oh, and an ashtray. And Chrome bumpers. 8’ bed that you can reach into the toolbox of while standing on the ground. And a bench seat.
S I have a Frontier pro 4x4. I cared about some features and didn't care about a whole mess of others.. One of the features I didn't give two (bleeps) about was the fuel efficiency. Do most truck owners care about fuel efficiency? I mean, its a truck, right? Not the class of vehicle to pick if you want to save at the pump.

They're all terrible. Depending on who you talk to everyone has had nightmare problems with all of the brands. Ford's aren't that bad if you start away from the damn turbos.

Which vehicle helps me "win" and keeps me alive in a collision? I looked over the statistics and nearly got killed by a jeep Wagoneer the other day (texting while driving while making a left turn without the signal light turned on by a middle aged women). I tried public transit got stuck for 8 hours the 2 weeks ago 5 of those hours freezing in sub zero waiting for transit and another walking (all in one day). I don't need apple play, fuel economy or need it to look good but i need structural integrity, weight and reliability. I have a S-corp and work in fintech which truck would you recommend? edit: I put 6k miles in the last 9 years of driving since i work partly remote and distance wise not that far from hudson river.
Actually, Tahoma is the original name of Mount Ranier at that location before the whites renamed it after one of their explorers into the native nation. The bump to the side is still called Little Tahoma. Tacoma is just a bastardization of Tahoma just as Seattle is for Chief Sealth.
I wouldnt use a turbo charged gas powered pickup to tow tony hawk on his board. Nat asp or turbo diesel only for towing.....with a manual of course. Automatics arent strong enough to do real towing. That maverics cvt is considerably worse
That hilux tdi sounds exactly like what i want in a golf r, gr corolla, wrx hatch, or integra hatch body. Mated to a 7 speed manual. Would one of those companies please pull your heads from your butts and make that happen? Just make sure its as reliable as the toyota one. Oh and p.s. please dont diesel gate the thing
Get rid of the emissions and get a good diesel and get way more than 300 thousand with the military grade aluminum body, salty roads I use a 50/50 mixture of boiled linseed oil and mineral oil let dry hard through the summer and not a lick of rust on the frame

I'll take the naturally aspirated V6 Frontier over any of this junk and it will last at least 400 K miles.
My opinion is that the Nissan Frontier is the best midsized truck

Nissan Frontier here. 2024 SV LOVE IT, traded my 2017 Ridgeline .
I miss my 87 F-150, 300 cui I6 with a 4 speed manual. 4x4 with manual locking hubs...yeah, it was great.

Won't max towing wonder why you're under their truck?
Rule of thumb generally is to never exceed 80% of vehicles max capacity, but that's on a normal engine. Hybrids and turbos keep it around 60-70%.

Funny. I would ttow a 2000 lb Glastron with an 88HP motor with my 1992 Ford Tempo. Put it in, take it out; never a problem for years.
