More than one way to win a game of football. Today was professional from Liverpool. They defended well with numbers and didn't give away too many chances. I much prefer this Liverpool team compared to last year when we were constantly overloaded at the back.

@@User677-56 They looked better because we were comfortable with letting them have the ball, personally enjoyed their intricate passing in their own half but they had an xG of 1. They got back in the game and within 2 minutes we knocked them back down and game was pretty much set after that.

No, Steve Nicol, the best team did not lose - you were a brilliant defender, but not so as a pundit. The best team won. It is called a "game plan". They controlled the game which is why, as you mention, Chelsea barely had a chance. Chelsea's goal was their first effort on target. They had only one more in the entire game. Slot's tactics are measured, controlled and very effective. As an ex-pro, you should be able to get that.
The only reason we sat back is because Chelsea’s only attacking threat comes from runs in behind look at all their goals this season.

They seemed content to let Chelsea play and have the ball. As for our press? That's a thing of the past now. 3 points yes, but I've never seen any Liverpool manager cede so much control to an opponent at Anfield 11 v 11. If Slot is going to harness the significant energy of the Anfield faithful his Liverpool team must play on the front foot and with more urgency. We'll see but I agree with Stevie.

Stevie loves Liverpool FC but he intentionally downplays Liverpool's performances so as not to appear too biased and to keep them rooted and humble with some form of criticism no matter how well they play. It's like a master constantly finding fault in the apprentice's work so as to make him/her better.
Liverpool struggled but won by outgaming CFC. Chelsea were marking man for man and LFC struggled to play out from the back. Kelleher was reduced to hitting the ball long. We ended up scrapping for the second ball, trying to pick up the pieces. When we did win the second ball, in their half, with a bit more space, we put together some nice passes. . Salah showed his moment of quality. Jones should have had 2 goals, he fluffed the first touch on his early chance. Szobo should have pulled the trigger first touch when he had a clear chance. Nunes was a menace, as usual, as usual he missed a chance to get on the score sheet. Diaz had 2 chances and his shooting was poor. Palmer was marked out of the game by the holding players. Slot outmanaged Merasco.

Nicol should be sacked by this channel because he talks utter bollocks. Slot's tactical intelligence has been evident in all the games he's managed bar one against Forest. Liverpool would sometimes huff and puff under Klopp and lose games where possession was surrendered to opposing teams. Slot has mastered the art of efficiency in games where they give little away and expel less energy in the process. They make fewer mistakes. Klopp's teams at their best would batter and destroy opposition but suffered when they weren't at their best. Slot's approach is more guarded and less wasteful. Give him some credit.

They may have had good possession but they didn't do a lot with it. Certainly didn't look as dangerous as they do on the counter. Liverpool played more a counter attack game but since Chelsea struggle more against that type of team, it kinda paid off and especially without Mac Allister for most of the game.

I don't see the game as liverpool sitting back and waiting to break. We were up against tough competition so of course we had to soak up some pressure at times. Chelsea this season are an amazingly attacking team. We did enough to win the game. Stevie has his head up his own @$$
Stevie Liverpool is changing the way they approach games. For 9 years they have been about heavy metal 🎸 and fun. All of that was fun and great but we lost many finals as a result. Now we about approaching each game according to the opposition and being more, calm and resilient and strategic. If anything at all as much as Chelsea had most of the ball and did play better. Everytime Liverpool wanted to turn things up to get a goal, they did so and then right after let Chelsea have it to come at them.

Yes it's not a klopp team so it doesn't look to dominate in an imposing way, it frustrates, it controls where the play happens, and baits traps within transition and press. It ceded play and possession to hit the transition, and you'll notice despite all that ceding how few attempts on target v Liverpool there were. They controlled the narrative by ceding a few chapters.

First of all, well done to Chelsea because they’re a good side and I think they’re gonna have a very good season compared to the previous ones… next Stevie’s off his head.. a very simple statistic. Liverpool after eight games have only conceded three goals. They are playing with a tighter more organised defence.
