Hawk at position 2 is such a bad placement because 2nd unit is usually stronger than the last 3 so it's not going to die and secondly if your first unit is strong it's obviously going to kill their first and 2nd unit on its own so your Hawk is wasting its 7 damage, It's better as the 5th unit because it can snipe Vultures or any weak pet and turn draws into wins.
NL not taking the second seahorse with 3 iguanas in play made me do a double take to make sure that he gave up an 2/3 that dealt 3 sniper damage for 1 health on a 4 man squad

I have never understood the comments that criticize NL’s play, like it’s just entertainment, he’s not perfect. But the internal rage I felt watching him roll past health foods that could’ve saved the yak, the best scaling for the koala, has permanently changed me.

His attack shows as 98. It looks like what happens is the bell pepper limits the incoming attack to 1 less than the pet's health. In this case the lions health was 50, so he was limited to 49 damage. the crit was calculated second, which doubled that 49 to 98 and was enough to one shot the pepper

If you used 3 leeches in the back with a Koala up front and a unit with a cool ability behind the koala with a cucumber on the three middle units it would be better than leveling the leech and keeping the yak since the leech does less damage and could be cancelled out with cucumbers
This man complained about scaling being one of only two ways to win and when faced with lots of new pets with new and unique abilities he tries to force a scaling team.
to be fair koala yak leech is busted he just played it terribly. flex (preferably leech or yak) leech yak koala koala is basically free win even with everything at 1, just dump cucumbers and health food onto the yak(s).
scaling is still the most consistent way to win other than summon build - panda, koala, and lion (i know it received a nerf) builds still require scaling and are some of the strongest builds in the pack right now. they added all these cool movement abilities but scaling and summon are still way more consistent and reliable
I think the extra damage from the critical hit is applied after the green pepper is destroyed. So if you crit an enemy with a green pepper, the additional damage carries over as if the enemy didn't have a pepper.
8:10 Doubt NL is going to see this but giving the other Leech the shrimp, combining and buying the new one is getting all the dmg with none of the HP loss.
Cockroach and temp stats (strawberry/hummingbird) is actually pretty strong in the first 2 turns. You could also shift into a panda and then pivot out the cockroach around turn 5.
NL should do a 1 million sub special on YT and do a charity where a percentage of the eggshell hat sales go to saving wildlife, maybe make a deal with the devs.
I think it would be cool if NL made a custom deck/pack and tried to get 10 wins with it. There are some really cool synergies with animals locked behind other packs, so being able to use any animal you want (with a limit to how many you can choose, of course), as well as foods, is really cool!
perhaps crits are so strong that they break through green pepper. Maybe a secret hardcoding into the game. There doesn't seem like a reason for green pepper to not work above a certain damage threshhold
My proposed, very subtle cockroach buff: Tier 1: Start of turn -> Set attack to (1) Tier 2: Start of turn -> Set attack to (2) Tier 3: Before attacking -> Deal 8 to all opponents
Egg is mad hating on the roach, it's an early powerhouse and just needs during-battle buffs. Hummingbird strawberroach is at least top 3 possible first team imo, with panda-roach seahorse being up there as well. Transition into big panda or hummingbird stack and you're winning rounds early easily
1 health more for an actively bad ability compared to something like the iguana or seahorse is just so not worth imo. A big part of level 1 pets is going for early level ups and maybe finding a unit or two that you can carry into the mid or even late game, all of which is something you do not want to do with the roach. Strawberry on several other units is nearly as strong, can actually work with kiwis and other strawberry buffers plus isnt a 6 gold investment that you're going to chuck pretty swiftly
putting any actual food investment in the roach itself seems like a bad idea, but panda+roach doesnt sound bad for turns 1-2. get a nice beefy unit for some early wins while you get started, maybe level the roach turn 3 to get a higher tier pet and then ditch it to pivot to a proper panda build

took me til the very last turn to realize but the reason why fortune cookie overrides green pepper is that it seems like green pepper has a sort of priority that works against it, and if your base attack is higher than the pets hp, it gets set to the hp-1, but if you double that it still kills it, thats why it deals 98 damage because you’d be dealing 49
I think it is just a quirk of how it's designed, not necessarily a bug like some people are saying. I like that it means the green pepper has one thing that can counter it, but 50% crit chance is too high IMO, I'd like it more at 33 or 25.
Run 1 either buff the hawk to level 2 or should have swapped it out for the swordfish. Running both wasn't worth it. Also wouldn't the peaches have saved the ox?

I think the reason the green pepper wasn't working is because the game considers critical hits as 2 hits, or maybe it's just bugged idk
