    The Strymon Iridium Impulse Manager is simple but extremely powerful for tweaking your guitar tone with IR's. In this video I go through some tips and tricks for getting great tone including using different types of impulse responses on each side to give you a fuller stereo image, adding a delay to one side for a WIDE left/right image, balancing IR's using the controls inside the manager and things to listen for in the stereo image when using different combinations of impulse responses.

    I have been finding your videos to have incredible value in them... thank you for all the amazing content you've put out. I also purchased some of your IR's and your guitar part course, top notch stuff! Thank you again, Michael!

    All I have a Line 6 Pod Go, and your Iridium videos are making me what to get one and try it out. I have a reverb, and delay pedal, feel like those plus maybe a overdrive and the Iridium would be fun to have. Love your content! Keep it Up!

      Thanks! I’m loving the simplicity of the Iridium. If you don’t use a ton of effects it might be worth considering!

    I use v30 with deluxe reverb. The one from celestion and their cenzo mix is pretty neat.
    York audio matchless v2 with chime
    Punch is where i just haven't in set of what i want tho. Mainly 412 greenback , g12-65 or evm12l

    The Null IR is a very useful tool as well. I use it when connecting to things like line 6 powercab or when using IRS in external gear.

    • @MichaelWWestbrook
      @MichaelWWestbrook  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely! I think I prefer to turn the cab IR off with one of the start up modes. (I think that’s what they call them) That way I don’t have to use a cab spot for the null cab.

    • @duncancartledge1667
      @duncancartledge1667 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MichaelWWestbrook I have a few saved groups in the IR manager so swap them according to what I’m doing. For some things the cab bypass mode doesn’t have a strong enough signal, easily swapped though.

    Great video. If you are going to use different IR’s, do you run 2 outputs into your interface and 2 channels into your DAW? I’m just starting to learn about the digital world.

    Very helpful video man thanks!
    Can you do you do the “delay 9 ms trick” without pro tools, Logic, GarageBand or something similar? I only use the Iridium software currently and have no way of recording. I only play stereo at church right now, no actual recording.
    Also, if say I want to use a Greenback with sm7b on one side and a Greenback with 121 on the other, will this sum to mono ok ?

  • @tendingtropic7778
    @tendingtropic7778 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I learned a lot from this, thanks! I use the strymon deco doubletracker in wide stereo mode before the iridium, I guess thats basically comparable with your 9ms delay trick :)?

    • @MichaelWWestbrook
      @MichaelWWestbrook  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, similar! Typically a double track effect like that has a longer delay but I’m not super familiar with all the modes/features on the deco

    I wish the Iridium had an effects loop. Have you tried the simplifier?

    • @MichaelWWestbrook
      @MichaelWWestbrook  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven’t. It’s similar to an effects loop to run effects after the Iridium though not exactly the same.

    Can you plug a Fender Rhodes into the Iridium for in-headphones practice at home?

  • @eanroad

    Would you happen to know if we can do a dry/wet set up with the input using a TRS male to TS TS female Y cable?

    • @MichaelWWestbrook
      @MichaelWWestbrook  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I understand your question correctly it seems like that would work!

    • @eanroad
      @eanroad 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MichaelWWestbrook Cool! I basically use the Iridium as a pedal platform amp and it is at the very end of my chain (after the delays and Reverbs). I was thinking about splitting the signal after my drives, so I can do a dry/wet into the Iridium.

    How did you get your ir files into those side columns so you can drag and drop?

    • @MichaelWWestbrook
      @MichaelWWestbrook  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it’s in the preferences or settings. You have to assign the folder where all the IR’s are located.

    Hey man I'm super new to IR's, I've had the iridium for 2 years but never changed the IRs. How much difference to the different IRs actually make? Bit of a noob uestion I know but I just have been running it "set and forget" - any help is appreciated :)

    • @MichaelWWestbrook
      @MichaelWWestbrook  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hard to say as taste vary but it seems most people prefer other IR’s compared to the stock ones. I much prefer mine or other “aftermarket” IR’s to the stock ones.

    • @MakeLikeAFridge
      @MakeLikeAFridge ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are free IRs available that you can find. Some are quite decent. You will notice a huge audible difference because it interacts with your distortion+gain pedals, and have unique EQs. It's a little bit overwhelming trying to find the 'best' because there are so many to try, but I think it's worth trying out for you, can't go wrong with the free ones! I have removed all of the stock ones except 1, I just find others feel a bit more 'realistic'.

    I’m not able to get the ir package I purchased separately to load into the manager. I bought a package from both eminence AND ownhammer and neither drag and drop. I am able to drag and drop the ir files that came WITH the manager.

      Have you tried boosting the levels of the IR in the IR manager?
      Every thing you connect to can respond differently and need different levels.

    • @MichaelWWestbrook
      @MichaelWWestbrook  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a Focusrite interface. I run the iridium into 2 Radial JDI’s into 2 Neve style preamps. I prefer my direct sound to the headphone out on board the iridium by far.

    • @DToneQuest
      @DToneQuest 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MichaelWWestbrook I run a roland quad capture interface which i thought was pretty decent but its dated these days I assume since its discontinued. But if your running 7-800 bucks more in front of the pedal it probably makes a serious bit of difference.

    • @MichaelWWestbrook
      @MichaelWWestbrook  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DToneQuest Yeah, it's a difference but I haven't compared it to anything else... it's just what I have in my home studio so it's easy to set up that way. I good DI and quality Preamp will help but I'm not sure it would be a huge difference in most scenarios.
