+Adrian Thorneycroft Satellite images are in fact updates very frequently. You can check on Google Earth using that timeline thing. Satellites go through orbits that can't be hugely adjusted so when the Satellite takes the picture, it's a hit or miss because if the weather is bad the image cannot be used. They still archieve it on Google Earth as I mentioned but it won't be used on Google Maps as the primary image. If however the image is good, then it will be used. In the largest world cities with 3D imaging, satellites are not even the default "satellite" view. It's actually planes that fly around in good weather and using advanced 3D equipment, they can map out a whole city. Maybe in the future Satellites will be able to do that.
Well when they try to hook machine-to-brain interface up to your head, then you'll know. (No lie, it's already here and has been. They've been stealing from us for years.) When it happens to you you won't laugh about a tinfoil hat.

I ride the NYC subways all the time, and back in the '90s, I was thinking how interesting it might be to show a projection of the streets above as we ride underneath, highlighting points-of-interest and pertinent trivia.
I think Google hates my school because it hasn't been updated since 2009. My school was demolished and remodeled, yet Google maps doesn't show my new school, which was built in 2012.
So a lot of the stuff show on this video was from Google Street View, not satellite images. They're totally different ball parks. One is hundreds of miles in space, the other is from pictures taken from a car driving around or a guy with a street view bike. Am I the only one annoyed by this?

In 1984 when I was a High School Senior a teacher told us that the government had satellites that could read the date on a dime on a sidewalk. Whether or not he was exaggerating, imagine the top secret satellite images some lucky high-level people have access to!

Did you guys know that google maps knows traffic conditions by monitoring smartphones? So basically, most people with iphones, android, etc are giving out their location and speed to their phone company, who in turn transfers that info to google maps. It's apparently so sophisticated that it can rule out people that stop and go frequently, like school bus drivers or mailmen!
My only fault with Google maps are the colours aren't vibrant enough. It's all the same pastel shades and can be hard to differentiate between main roads and minor roads at a distance we all want to see them at, without having to zoom in too deep. Does that make sense? Anyone else notice how washed out the colours are?

I visited Vandenberg AFB a couple weeks ago which is where they launched all of these satellites they talk about in this video. The stuff I learned was amazing!
Just wait until they can use satellites to read nonlinear junctions. It works this way. Background microwave and millimeter is all around us. Two pieces of metal separated by a piece of dirt. Like two stacked forks are exposed to sonic vibrations. Radio waves travel through one fork and the dirt's electrical qualities change. Sound is changed to radio signals. This was known as far back as the 40's.

Maybe they will tell us something like another satelites combines its imagery technology with the first satelite and this allows the picture to be rotated and eventually stitched together. However, i think not..... perhaps maybe the ability to use lightwaves and radioation technology.... from my understanding only a piece of glass or anything that is reflective like water, can capture an image. Perhaps maybe since light is reflective, then they can see anywhere at anytime there is light.... by useing some advanced technology.

people seem to think you need cell reception for gps. you do not. at all. the constellation is vast and if you include glonass you win with about double. sure some apps/etc (like google maps) your gps is tied to other data that needs a data link but you can use tons of programs with ability to use offline storage maps tied into your gps radio. i use these apps when i am backwoods canoeing
So it's because so many people have location based services switched on even when they are not using location based services. Once you switch your phone on they know where you are.

None of the Scans are older than 3 years? Excuse me, but 6 years ago, they made a new intersection in our neighbourhood. Today, said intersection is still not there on Google maps! Another Point: 4 years ago I sold my old car...a blue Opel astra, I bought a silver Skoda octavia right after! and on today's Images, this blue astra is still on it's parking Slot in front of my house. I live in Switzerland, just to mentoin it!
I'm not sure, but I think the camera on ISS is not real time. I think there is 1 or more seconds delay. That means if you turn on a light, on earth, and you look through the ISS camera on earth on your computer, you will see the light 1 second or more after you switched on the light switch. But it doesn't matter, that's good enough.

Why do you need that much high resolution for the general public anyways? I think what Google Maps has now with Street View is more than sufficient when you're mapping out a trip to find out where good views are or what a place you're going to looks like. Anything more to it in terms of resolution seems pointless in my opinion, I don't think it can get any better than taking a virtual stroll down any city in the world with Street View. I mean what more would people want that can be legitimately functional in satellite mapping?
I'm still waiting to see an actual photo of a satellite from the ground, still waiting....... and still haven't seen one pass the moon, I see planes but have never seen a satellite, kinda strange.

A lot of the images on google maps come from plains. Where I work we provide 10cm imagery to people and companies like Google.

Google to launch Google Live in 2020. Watch live views anywhere on earth. Then in 2024, Google will launch an interstellar satellite...
