Did your mamas and grandmamas used to make any homemade treats at the holidays? Have you followed in their tradition?

My mom used my grandma's recipe also. My Grandma, like yours, couldn't make it, but my mom was the best!! Such amazing memories you've brought up for me, thank you.❤

I'm from Mobile, AL and we were lucky enough to have pecan trees on our property. My mama made the best divinity I've ever had. She always told me the "don't even try it when it's raining" thing isn't true when you make it all by hand. Divinity is all in the stirring - never used a candy thermometer. When you're stirring the Karo, you know it's ready when you lift the spoon, you watch it drip, and it starts stringing into very thin, wispy hairlike strands. That's when it's ready to combine with the meringue. We always beat the mixture vigorously by hand until it starts to stiffen. Those were the foolproof keys, but it definitely is an art. Love and miss you, Mama!

And the tears this morning. I had forgotten! My grandma used to have those for us on special occasions. It was for the grownups, but she would sneak us some pieces, and I felt so special! Dear Paula you just made my Christmas🤗❤️ I am making some, and will sneak pieces to my grandson....

My grandmother made divinity. She always colored it with food color. That made it so divine!

My mother and I made so many Christmas candies, cakes and pies. It was a lot of work but it’s one of the only things we did together as mother & daughter.

I love making divinity because it is a challenge just like making a cheesecake without cracking. You are right it has to be dry weather, humidity is not good when making it. I used to make it at Thanksgiving. The last time I made it, the weather was just not good and I could not even get it all out. I do make things at Thanksgiving and Christmas to remember my mother. The first year my mother had left us, I made her fresh coconut cake but did not use her 7 minute frosting, I use whip cream and frozen coconut. I even bought a fresh coconut, cracked it like she did and grated it by hand. I do not know how she did it. I had scraped knuckles and coconut everywhere. I now use frozen coconut and I really think it is very good. At Thanksgiving, I make her amazing cranberry salad. At Christmas, I make the coconut cake, red velvet cheesecake, buttered toffee and sugared pecans. I love divinity and I might just make some this year. Thank you, Paula for all your videos. I get a memory of my mother with every single one of your videos. We used to watch you together every Saturday morning together.

My aunt was our family candy maker. She had the best divinity. We lost her last year. I'm hoping to try making divinity this year, so I appreciate this video.

My mother and Grandmother were never candy makers but bakers. I love to make the candy and Grandma was always so excited when i would try new things and share. I haven't made divinity since we lost her in 2003 but I do think this is the year to bring it back! She loved when i used crushed peppermint in it.

I've been hoping someone i subscribe to would make a batch of divinity! I'm so glad it is from the queen of the kitchen 🙌 ❤
I always make her cream cheese banana nut bread. That's the ONLY WAY I WILL EVER MAKE IT!
everyone loves it and I always give ms. Paula credit!
She has taught me how to cook and keep a husband 😂 since I was 17 I watched her religiously on food network and was so proud to own a set of her skillets & pots !
And now I watch her and her boys all the time on TH-cam.

My Gran would make this every Christmas, and it would take the entire family sitting around the table to get it done. We did not have an electric mixer so everyone had to take their turn with the old rotary beater, and when you got to the point where you thought your arm was going to fall off, you passed it along to the next person. But it was heavenly when we got it done and had the chance to eat it!
