I like how you drilled a hole to attach the hose. May I suggest opening the top of the soap bottle to allow air to enter and prevent negative pressure. Thanks for the video and taking the time to show us a better way. I've always thought of doing this and now I will.

I put my soap in an old propane tank. Then I pressurize it at 15psi. I don’t have to pump. I just open a valve. My daughter, Cricket, played a trick on the family once by raising the pressure to 55psi. Soap flew through the kitchen and it hit the far wall 27 feet away in the living room. I was glad no one got hurt.

Thanks for the tip. We have been having a problem with our soap not staying in the tube and will definitely try this. Here's a little tip for you. can you use 2 check valves instead of one? Is that silicone sealant used for kitchen sinks? Did you seal the hole you drilled in the large container of dish soap?

Thank you so much for the check valve hack! We had purchased a soap dispenser with the long hose but were so frustrated with it. I had contacted the company a couple of times and they blamed the soap I was using-telling me first that it was too thick, then that it was too thin! Thank you again!!!!

So I had to do this several times. The out side of the check valve was a little smaller in diameter then the in side. The silicone didnt hold. Don't give up! This gal ended up putting a little bit of thread seal tape around the "out" side of the valvet so it would be a snug fit & used hot melt glue to seal it together 🤷‍♀️ I also put the check valve much closer to the soap container rather than in the middle. A heckuva lot less pumping . Thanks :) works great

This works. Soap had kept going back down to the container. The pump was working fine except the pump's internal valve went bad. This essentially replaces that valve. Now it works great. I moved the check valve closer to the pump.

  • @macster1457

if your pump is working correctly, the issue of it going down will not happen.. the reason it goes down is because the ball (check valve) inside the mechanism that blocks suction from going down is dirty and needs to be cleaned.. that little ball inside allows for air to go up, but not down.... all you have to do is once every few months just clean it with vinegar and hot water.... problem solved... that's what I do and works very nice.

Macster, I think you are correct! Ours worked perfectly for years with no check valve…just stuck the tubing on and put it inside the top of the soap dispenser and it has been fine. However, over time the dishsoap collects in the pump assembly and it just needs to be cleaned. It works perfectly now without the check valve!

Great concept. Why halfway? Why not in the bottom of the bottle? Put a 2 inch tubing on the bottom with an angle cut so that it can't suck itself to the bottom of the bottle, but another benefit will be that when you change bottles, less goo escapes during the swap.

Great idea I wanted to start doing a different bottle, but never got to it The check valves a great idea.
What I did was filled up the original bottle and poured it into a measuring cup for some reason I think it was 8 ounces. So when I did fill it up, I poured in 7 ounces and used a funnel, and it worked pretty well.
Having said that the big bottles much easier.

Moen was new, the plastic tube was only pushed over the first rib that is supposed to seal and create suction. I used a tiny pick to pry it over the last 2 ribs and voila it works. Chinese factory oversight of an msrp $180 item is so good lol. QC sucks at Moen. I checked the sucking part/ pump and it was working independent of the pump handle/nozzle portion. Went from there. Good luck.

Excellent idea! I wanted a more secure seal between the tubing and the check valve and pump so I used a “super glue” and instead of clear silicone I used Bondic (SpectroSeal would work, too). Worx great! Thanx for the tip.

There is a sealant that really works called "Thru-the Roof" that's made for sealing around roof penetrations such as vents and skylights. The stuff is really sticky and although it skins over it never hardens. Found in the roofing departments and not with the caulks often.
I successfully completed this hack, but my pump seems to lack the ability to create a suction or loses its prime inside the pump. The tube stays full of Dawn and it worked initially, but a day later it won't start again. How do I go about fixing the pump?

    • @paulsklar6869

Barge Cement is great too but Silicone still works best for this application. As for the pump I had the same issue for a while. I put a few drops of water into the pump and Voila the whole assembly works just fine with Dawn.

Great video, just a couple of comments. The poyethelene canot be secured with silicone. This type of plastic is glue resistant :D I tried different types of adhesives, even the FLEX tape, and it did not take. After sevveral tries I finally had success with Loctite Plastics Bonding System 2g Super Glue. Unfortunately the end product didn't work well, perhaps because i tried to glue the parts together several times, but the soap wouldn't easily come out, half the time it wouldn't even come out without extra pumping and then only a bit of it would sray out with lots of bubles.
I have decided to try again, but this time, i bought Everbuilt clear vinyl tube 1/2 in OD .170 ID. It is slightly smaller in diameter than that recommended in the video, but it fits perfectly inside the pump head I bought fromm Amazon.
Please note, you may need a different size of the tube, depending on the pump you bought. Someone already suggested it in other comments, so i'll join them, take your pump to the store and find the right tube size :)
It also fits very snug in the valve from both ends, so i didn't have to use any adheseve at all to get it work this time :) I just taped it over with a duct tape.

Do we use a 5/16 drill bit for the hole for the dawn soap bottle?

This is pretty smart however I just learned I can fill the dispenser from the top by pulling off the nozzle. That was a game-changer.

Problem with this is that you overfill it every time or don't put enough soap in so your refilling constantly.

@@carrieosburn3377 Maybe but I buy in bulk and use a funnel. It takes me maybe 15 seconds to fill the funnel and that's it.

I finally was successful with this technique. What I did find was that the polyethylene tubing is coiled and very stiff to use. Then using the Silicone glue (mine was GE brand) would not hold. The tubing kept slipping out. Ended up just using duct tape to hold into place. I don't see why flexible vinyl could not be use instead of the very stiff poly.

I'm going to try that myself. The stiff stuff was annoying.

If you run hot water through the poly (I use a wash tub faucet I could push the tube up into the faucet a little bit) it softens the poly and can then be straightened and then cooled in a straight shape. The poly may improve the seal with the O-ring seal on the bottom side of the dispenser.
