    I'm a combat MP veteran, retired diesel mechanic/ fabricator. I noticed "3" important areas you did not shield with AR500 ap. Left & right engine access thru fenderwell openings. I would fab a removable ar500 section to cover and protect the engine and air compressor.
    The passengerside air tank at the frame rail under the passenger door.
    Remember if the air tanks or any airlines are damaged to leak, the brakes will lock. Then your dead. Please look at these areas to prevent that from happening in a SHTF.
    Cool rig.

      And sits
      Made of AR500 of course
      Also to eat you need plates and forks/knives
      all made of AR500 lmao

    That's a good clean 5ton modification setup. Not too radical but really raised the important specifications like fuel capacity and armor.

    I have a badass Bug Out Vehicle and your truck puts mine to shame. WOW!!! I am impressed. Man nice video. I have one of those stand out, mean looking BOV's. I have Five children and a wife to keep safe so I need the big super serious BOV. My Suburban puts the local Police MRAP to shame. I have a completely blacked out 1985 GMC Suburban 4x4 lifted 10 inches sitting on 35's. It's bed linered inside and out. Front and rear lockers, 425HP 383 stroker, Dual exhaust, Rocker panels, Has a 12,000lb winch, Large cargo rack, 42" 280 watt LED light bar, 4000 Watt generator, 3000 Watt power inverter, Quad remote sealed battery system, solar powered battery charger, 4 point deployable camo netting system, quick release removable 2nd & 3rd rear seats, entire interior is water proof, (I pressure wash the inside all the time) Ram Air Snorkel Intake system, AR500 Ballistic armor plating around passenger & engine compartment and tail gate area, dual layer Ballistic window film on all windows, (each window Will withstand 40+ rounds of 7.62x45 at 10ft distance I have tested it on another car) If you haven't put ballistic window film on your BOV, I recommend you do. It's a little pricy but well worth it if your being shot at. Truck is fitted with a 8"x8" square 3/8" tubing heavy duty front ramming bumper with heavy duty brush guard with closeable radiator shield made of AR500 Ballistic armor plate, 50 gallon fuel cell protected by 1/4 inch AR500 armor skid plate, rear storage box is 1/8 inch lead lined making it EMP proof and holds flashlights, 2 spare ignition modules, 4 long range radios, and various other electronic necessities including 2x EOTech 517 Holographic Sights still in their boxes. I carry 4 spare tires, 3 without rims. Truck has a homemade off road tire changing system including bead breaker and bead seater as well as all required bead lubricants, patches, plugs and patch glue. Truck is fitted with internal tool storage that also holds 300lbs of tools plus spare tie rods, leaf shackles, butane torch with brazing rods & flux for repairing the brass radiator. Truck is fitted with a Self powered air compressor with dual 15 gallon air tanks, and a shit ton of other things. My truck is my families Bug Out Vehicle. I hope we never have to depend on it. But if Zombies come, we're good until the gas runs out lol.
    Oh and people get out of my way really fast when I come up behind them. The thing looks down right mean. It's funny watching my 5ft tall wife drive it. She loves it, but would kill me if she knew just what it cost to build. ;)

      I've thought about it, but the truck has things and functions I don't want anybody knowing about, so I am undecided on a video. Maybe when I am finished working on it I might make a video.

      Tony Kinsey good point. I wouldn't show everything on my bug out vehicle if I had one, either. I'm currently saving up for a truck to modify. Probably won't be as good as yours, though!

      Here is my advice. Get one that is in common usage. Junk yards are full of old GM trucks so if SHTF I can scavenge parts at just about any junk yard. Old GM trucks go forever and they are easy to work on. Ford transmissions suck and cannot take any abuse. Get one that is older than 1986. Anything after 86 has computers in it and if an EMP or solar flare happens all computers will fry. Focus on dependability first, then focus on supplies and storage and cargo capabilities etc. If you are gonna add armor I recommend AR500 Steel plate and use 1/4 inch plate for the rear of the vehicle and to protect your fuel tank and 1/8 inch for everything else such as door panels etc. Ballistic window film is great, but kinda expensive but much cheaper than bullet resistant glass. Make sure to get a heavy duty front bumper and get a Winch that can pull double what your vehicle weighs. Harbor Freight Tool company has a 12,000lb Winch for $300.00 and they work great. Don't get a smaller one as they aren't as good. If you need more advice send me a message and I will gladly assist in any way I can. :)

    • @SargentH12121
      @SargentH12121 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tony Kinsey Thank you! I will take your advice into account when looking for a vehicle and what to modify it with. Also, would there be a way to EMP proof a modern Chevy 2500 duramax, for example?

    My family, especially my father have been involved with canning for years. The right canning jars, lids and tops. Coupled with food safety, your canned goods will last practically forever! Spam in its natural can will last for decades!
    We found our grandmother's can goods (Bison) that was canned in 1949.
    The meat was still good! We also found a Civil Defense storage of Food placed in the sub basement of a NEW YORK CITY HOUSING AUTHORITY PROJECT FROM THE early 1950s. The crackers, peanut butter, jelly, honey and spam were still good to eat! I have a 1954 ford wagon. I keep extra car batteries and cables in a faraway cage to protect from EMPs.

    Have you thought about putting a train plow on the front? You will more than likely need it to clear bridges. I am building a survival truck out of 86 Dodge Ram d150 with an 8 ft bed. 15kw Generator run off of a 400cui 6.6l 4 barrel from a bandit edition trans ma, reverse osmosis water filtration system, 4x4, 36" tires on 17" rims with home made carbon fiber airless inserts, 4 12v 2500 amp deep cycle batteries, hood and roof laid with solar cells. Vaporizer gas system I get about 200 miles on 4oz of fuel.

Probably hard not to be noticed i guess no matter what you do. Something this big need tiny BOVs itself incase this big beast gets stopped. Maybe load up the back with a few electric mountain bikes so you could move fast light and silent?

    Man, the last thing I'd want in a doomsday scenario is a military-like vehicle. I wouldn't want hordes of refugees following me for the food or supplies I'm potentially distributing, nor criminals, wackos, survivalist, or similar taking pot shots at me. My choice would be the most low-keyed, undesirable, thing possible. Blend in (camo), not stand out. Maybe something like an old delivery van, on a 4x4 truck frame & driveline (to get there), with the words "septic tank cleaning" all over. Nobody would touch that. LOL.

    Great truck, 2 1/2 ton Army Truck. For something more basic my sister drives a big Turbo Diesel with a six speed trans and four wheel drive with a crew cab and took out the bench seat for some bucket seat; grounds for saving a marriage. For the trailer she uses dual axles only; so a flat tire or broken brake drum only slows her down. And she can back up with a fifth wheel or regular trailer. And if the truck has a flat tire then there is the auto club.

    same fuel economy as my 7.3 IHI IDI one wire diesel . which is also a great engine in the end of the world situation if we did have a electro magnetic pulse there is only one wire that controls ignition of the vehicle which could easily be manipulated with any battery device that you could make at home

    Personally I would have swapped out the coolant cooled for a Deutz air cooled diesel and put in a manual trans thereby eliminating 2 weak points, coolant and trans fluid.
    Nice rig though.

    • @kevins6277

      supposed to say collant cooled Cummins. Not sure what happened to Cummins LOL!

    • @kevins6277
      @kevins6277 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      To clarify on the trans fluid, I mean automatic transfluid. I'm not sure how much fluid the allison would take but it must be alot to engage the planetary assemblies. I prefer manual cause I have a better chance of still moving with low fluid vs an automatic.

    • @stuartholden5816
      @stuartholden5816 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      So many newer manual trans have a similar thin fluid like an auto i'm not sure you would gain anything. Although i'll admit to knowing next to nothing about large truck tranies.

    • @sostrucking
      @sostrucking 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kevin Swanson not everyone can drive a big truck manual so just in case maybe he went with the auto in case someone else in his party needs to drive it. I prefer manual too but you have to look at big picture of what someone maybe thinking. With the armor on this I am not so sure about how well an air cooled engine would work . Also gotta look at parts availability on what engine you use too.

    How can you say it has a "bullet proof" radiator? I could put a large caliber round in between those grill slits at hundreds of yards. Besides that it's a really good looking truck. Bit concerned about all that added weight for bullet proofing though. Alright on flat roads, but get it in any sort of steep countryside off the roads and tipping over would be a very real problem though. It's center of gravity with that added weight, would seriously compromise its stability. That said i'd have one

    • @sxeitalianveg
      @sxeitalianveg 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Antipodean33 up armor does just fine so long as there turbo chargers on the engine . Humvee still slow but out lmtvs and 5tonshave no issues.

    Impressive looking vehicle, however, you'll need to paint and mark it up to look like an Army or USMC vehicle AND get yourself some surface to air missile capability because once they figure you're not military you'll be on the first chopper's target list for sure... all that work and expense for a burning hulk taken out by an Apache... then there's that Abrams 2.5 miles away, you can't see, that will provide you with a very bad day. When a SHTF situation arises there will be a lot of young service people with very nervous trigger fingers... what's your survivability looking like now? S'pose you could paint: 'I'm just escaping with my family' in large letters on the side of the vehicle... let me know how that one goes. Cheers, BH

    Harnesses but no Roll cage? Not sure i really trust the cab not the buckle or bend in a roll over without the weight, a golden rule for Harnesses is not to fit them without a cage as they do not allow you to move out of the seat if the vehical rolls over like regular 3 point seatbelts. In this truck your head would become a pile driver if it tipped. Of course i'm happy to be proved wrong if the Armour will prevent the cab deforming in a roll over.

    So now I guess the big question is... What the hell do you do when you come around a turn and come face to face with yet ANOTHER ar500 super truck with no bathroom? Can't Mexican standoff for too long, somebody will have to hit the head eventually. Can't plow through, both are equally strong. You could be gentlemen about it and shoot it out with dueling pistols through your little sniper hatches. Make it interesting and circle each other. Damn this is like when K.I.T. went up against that K.I.T. version of a truck driven by Michael Knight's doppelganger.
    Last question. So what do both of your ar500 super trucks do against someone even crazier (who wasted his money that starving people could have used to eat actual food) that built a super plane made entirely out of black box material armed with a bunch of .50bmg gatling guns loaded with armor piercing incendiary rounds??? Ar500 armor isn't sounding so great anymore is it? Bet you wish you had more speed and fuel efficiency to get away and reach the closest tunnel now don't you? Cool truck for hauling junk around in the hood though.

      Yes, to buy it new, but not if it is collecting the dust in Afghanistan waiting for a another country to buy it for 1/10 of the price. The gov cannot afford shipping em back to the US

    Run flats only go for so long and are even useless against even a crudely made pipe bomb. I would take out the rubber, stay well back but use a good scope to keep you in sight. Then when down the road when you finally stop. I will wait you out after picking off those stupid enough to poke their head out of the top. The fuel will only last so long same as the battery. In the heat or winter you will cook or freeze and then take what I need. More money the thing is worth equates to more stuff you have to steal. I would disable it just for the food, cigarettes, guns and ammo or whatever else I could use or swap.

    man she's a beautiful truck, but like that pic of endless roads jammed with dead cars and psychos running around, good luck getting that massive bitch out of a congested city full of wrecks, you'll likely spend hours to get her a couple miles depending where your at trying to get out, moving and towing wrecks, when it's that packed pushing everything doesn't work, you run out of slack space to push stuff. it's harder than you think, take if from someone who has to push idiots vehicles out of the way from fire hydrants every day. Love the rig though, she's very nice. Cheers, IC

      These trucks don't have computers, and even if damaged the starter solenoid in the control box, can just jump terminals at the starter. These trucks are emp proof basically, because nothing on it that would be affected .

      +Gregory Faith its 40k on their site, that's not really that much for a 5 ton military truck that is completely bullet proof and hold your whole family.

    •  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +615jondoe It's NOT completely bullet proof. I commented on 3 areas that at vulnerable. And there's actually 4. Engine thru both fenderwell openings, air tanks passenger side, and complete undercarriage. As the 5.56/.223 round can destroy the brake chambers, air tanks, air lines all of which are catastrophically disabling. Oh; and 40k is a lot of money for a prep vehicle that will sit until needed. 10mpg??? More like 6 or 7 with all the added weight off armoring everything

      James Flores I think he was questioning how a large, heavy, truck could get gas mileage so similar to his much smaller, 6-cylinder, truck. To partially answer his question, this truck is a cow, slow as hell. If he drove his 6-cylinder truck at those slow speeds, his gas mileage would likely substantially increase as well. This truck was built (gear ratios, etc) to achieve a balance between power and economy, with top speed far less of a consideration (after all, how fast can one truly travel off-road carrying that much cargo or personnel).

    • @jasonhowe1697
      @jasonhowe1697 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Boys please don't compare this to your hilux or land cruiser/landrover or gmc or ford, the truck is ex military to begin with it would of likely had a 12-13 mpg anyway in its original mil spec. Even with the extra weight it is getting good mileage...

    • @jasonhowe1697
      @jasonhowe1697 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Negro, I think troa liked the idea of using the old duess in a half, though I would ask of its viability in towing 1-3 trailers in its current configuration without a fifth wheel, also have the company doing this mod considered insulation within the cab for winter conditiions..
      to be honest whilst I think it is a great idea a armouring up an old truck like the dudes in a half though with that excess weight what is the viability of it actually pulling a load of a couple. 20-30 trailers and going off road within as I seem to remember the trailers designed to be pulled behind these trucks were very short indeed and 2 would fit within the same space as a 20-30 foot trailer.
      I think the viability of this truck might be called into question as long term haul option. Now as security option within a convoy these might be a perfect option for use, though it its current configuration I would really consider extending the cab space into the rear section to give yourself a sleeper option for 6-10 people.. Because it is a guarantee given the the yanks breed you are going to have min of 6-8 kids in tow with a min of 2 adults, when I. Look at the idiots like the Duggers I consider whether it would be a practical option to consider moving that capacity of a large family especially within a prime mover environment to a bug out location.. Nevermind trying to feed 20+ mouths a day...
      I would consider that large of family would be a bugin type scenario.. Not a travel option given its size..

    • @dwightstewart7181
      @dwightstewart7181 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jason howe Besides, in a doomsday scenario, the military will likely be the only remaining authority (law enforcement, seizing food or property for public use, etc). At that point, I wouldn’t want to be riding around in anything even remotely resembling a military vehicle. Too many people (criminals, rioters, looters, survivalists, etc) who just might shoot first and ask questions later. I’d prefer a vehicle which would attract far less attention.
