I do get a bit miffed when I see videos like this saying short scale bass’s are for kids or beginners as this reviewer said in this video.
I’ve been playing bass professionally for more that 25 years, mostly P-Bass’s, I recently purchased a new Music Man short scale and absolutely love it.
I’m seriously thinking about switching over to all short scale bass’s, they are so much faster, easier and comfortable to play and have amazing tone.
Short scale bass’s are gaining a lot of popularity these days, and it’s not just kids or beginners buying them, pros are very much buying short scales these days because of some of the reasons I stated.
    Cheers, Davyo

Absolutely Dayvo, I actually like short scale basses and would love to own one, but like I said in the video the shrunken down body size is an issue for me, especially when playing sitting down. You're right in that they aren't just or kids or beginners, if you like how a short scale plays and sounds then it's the right bass for you, regardless of your ability! Thanks for checking out the video :)

Haha absolutely, this comment always makes me laugh considering the most well known short scale player is perhaps Stanley Clarke, and he sure ain’t small or a beginner!! Anyway each to their own, peace.

I too have played a P Bass for 30+ years but I also have a Hofner Violin bass(short scale of course) which is a really good contrast when the occasion demands.

I've had an Aria Pro II since the mid-80's and I love it. However, the one bass I couldn't put down was a friend's old Fender Mustang - and that's got me thinking...

I agree with Davyo. I have been playing bass for 42 years and have played and owned them all at one time or another. I switched 2 years ago to a short scale bass and will not be going back to a full scale bass. I currently own a EBMM short scale and a Reverend Mike Watt Signature bass, both are fantastic. I will be adding this one soon.

Wow! Sounds great. I especially like the poppy fingerstyle on the bridge pickup starting at 2:23. The P-bass pickup sounds great too. Nice demo!

Stanley Clarke played a short sale for years and his signature bass is short scale. It isn't just for small people, kids or beginners.

    • @Basslessonsmelbourne
      @Basslessonsmelbourne  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah I'm aware of that, however an Alembic short scale is a very different animal to a Sire short scale. Anyways, I didn't say it was exclusivley for beginners or 'small people' just that it's a good option. Thanks for watching!

The Beatles, Carol Kaye, Jack Bruce and other iconic bass players have also played short scales. Not to mention pretty much every major company makes one now, and aside from the Ibanez Mikro and Squier Mini P, they arent kids basses at all. Most TH-cam reviewers are clueless.

    Great demo Craig!
The best feature of this bass is not that:
    - is perfect for guitar players (like me) switching between 25.5" guitar and 30" scale at the gigs
    - is lightweight (great for long gigs)
    - looks fantastic and sounds even better
    - is versatile with PJ pickup combination
    - is great value for money...
... but the fact it comes in the LEFT HANDED version as well.
    Excellent job Sire!

Yeah, I'm not a bassist but when I saw that it comes in left handed variant I'm thinking about buying it just for fun and occasional playing. Regular scale basses are too large for my hands

@@Psztyk236 You and me both. I'm getting too old for that long reach to the lower neck notes. I really like medium scale (32") basses but the only company making a quality LEFTY medium scale basses is Warmoth, and it's a custom order boutique item, and priced accordingly.

I have been playing since 1988 and have plenty of high end basses, but picked up an Ibanez Mikro a few years back to take to Kenya with me for a month. I figured it was small enough to fit in the airplane storage, plus had back pack style straps. At the price, if it got beat up or lost, it wouldn't kill me. What I didn't expect was to fall in love with the size of it! I can slap, tap, sweep and shred like a madman with the sucker. Plus, not being a large stature guy, seems to fit me perfectly.
I wish they had a premium version of it.
Now, I see this Sire. The finish and quality look great from what I can see. If my canceled 2020 tour gets rescheduled, I may pull the trigger on one of these and give it a test run.

Overall a great video. FINALLY someone played some blues in a Demo. Too many Slap or funk videos. I'm looking at purchasing the U5 next week (July, 2024) as my very first bass. After a very long research process, this bass makes the most sense for a beginner with a little better budget. Now my one gripe about most Short Scale reviews, like @BassedInVegas stated, and I blame Leo Fender for starting this stigma. Short Scale basses are not (just) for Kids! I saw you added a Special Thank You to your mate who lent you the U5. I too have health issues, but even my friends who have been playing Guitar and/or Bass for decades have pointed out, Short Scales have a lot to offer, without much of a loss. If Leo Fender would have marketed them as alternative option to a 34" scale, instead of as a "kids toy", I think we wouldn't be having these comments today.
    ANYWAY... good video.

    • @sonnyportacio6238

@sirdude555 You hit some good points! There is certainly an undeserved stigma with short scales. I own short scales and the U5 and here's where it rests with me: Comfortable playing (lighter weight, ergonomics, easier reach and bendability) and it has a solid bass sound. Put it through a good amp with a good player and you'll get great results. The final sound is what matters. Do a blind test with a band or recording studio and would people really be able to tell it was a short scale? I wouldn't think so.

It’s the tone that counts and the players ability. Anyway , most of the tone is usually eq’d to bits with most instruments on tracks unless it’s a 2 or 3 piece band.
