I was thinking I probably should've put more b roll of my Etsy shop in the video... In case anyone wants a closer look, here's a link to it! www.etsy.com/shop/KrystleCole
I was an artist from the 1990s until the 2010s. I even ran an art organization and sold work to a few corporations. Eventually, my job made it too difficult to paint or to market my work. Recently, I've started up again, but the artworld has really changed. I've been watching videos on marketing art, using galleries, Etsy, Instagram, etc. I've even considered returning to the art fairs, which had been a big bust for me. Your videos on Etsy suggest the days of marketing art through the internet may be gone, so now I'm comsidering a return to the galleries. May be my best bet. I'll see.
Thanking you so,so much for generously sharing all your information. I at 65 feel I have missed the boat I would like to try again. I did really well selling to tourists outside n Victoria bc, I have learned about digital art and selling online but my fave was selling in person.
Yes, there’s nothing quite like selling in person. The interaction with your customers is so much fun. I wish you the best of luck on selling your art!
Thanks for the video pointing out the realities of the possible routes as an artist right now. If it's difficult for talented people as yourself to make it on Etsy then I just say wow. At least it was good to know that the art shows are a good and way to sell.
Yeah, Etsy is tough right now. I’m kind of hoping a new marketplace will pop up somewhere that is more for handmade artists, like Etsy used to be. now on Etsy there are so many people just buying and reselling stuff and or selling print on demand products that they didn’t really even make themselves, well maybe they made the art, but they didn’t make the product.
I've had an Etsy shop for about 3 years now selling acrylic paintings and prints and notecards. I've had I think just 56 sales in that time, of those sales only one was a painting, one was an assortment of note cards and the rest were prints. About 50 of the sales were directed there by me. A couple came from people who know me and the other few were random. I've worked hard with keywords, seo etc to no avail. I'm confident in the quality.of my art but etsy is tough to get traction on. For me anyway
That’s awesome! I can’t imagine there only being 500 shops, but at some point there must’ve been. So cool that you were an early Etsy Seller! I wish I would’ve been on their back then.

It is tough and getting harder to succeed on there every year
You should have seen Etsy back in 2005 when I was on! There were only 500 shops when I signed up! I don't have an Etsy shop anymore.

@@KrystleColeArt It was very different! I used to get on the home page all the time. I left when it stopped being completely handmade.
