Craziest thing about this : it was NCT's debut song. It was a statement as to the kind of group they were going to be : performance focused, with much stronger rappers than usual for their company, and at times some weird, kinda experimental music.
As for the"U" in the name, it stands for "United" and means that any member of NCT can be a part of any song. The members are chosen based on whether they would fit the song or not and can be from any other subunit (members of upcoming subunits can be introduced through NCT U releases, for example Shotaro and Sungchan became part of NCT in 2020 but still haven't been announced as part of other units, and so far have only participated in NCT U releases).

I just love the song. The members were Taeyong, Ten, Jaehyun, Mark and Doyoung. They are 5 of the best in NCT. The song just hits the ear differently than most songs. I am glad you liked it and hope other viewers did as well. NCT U is comprised of anyone within NCT. It is a fluid group. Thank you for reacting to this.

Moonwalk and Love Talk from WayV (subunit from NCT) are my favorites. Regular english version (NCT 127), Make a wish (NCT U), Bad alive (WayV), Turn back time (WayV) are great songs too.

This is my favorite debut song in all of my 12 years of kpop stanning. I wasn't expecting this reaction!
Check out the lyrics on your time I beg of you because it's nothing like people typically think. It's a deep song which makes me appreciate it even more.

This is considered one of the best debuts in Kpop! I love everything about it! Yes, NCT is a performance group, so always check out their dance practices or performance MV's too. If you want more NCT U, the two songs that popped up at the end "Make a Wish" and "Boss" are also amazing! Kind of on a side note, the center guy with the blond hair in the 7th Sense video is Taeyong. He is the leader of NCT 127 and of NCT as a whole. Anyway, he writes and composes some of his own stuff, and I would love for you to check him out more as well. He recently started his own TH-cam channel called TY Track and has posted a couple of performance videos for his songs "Lonely" and "Ghost." That would be a great place to start. Thanks so much!

and to consider this is their first song to introduce the whole NCT universe back in 2016 when everybody focusing on the happy flower boys, dance clubby sound and suddenly bam! the haunting beats came in, living in my brains until now. That's how powerful this song is.

In NCT-U's"The 7th Sense," what you are seeing, as part of NCT's dream concept, is supposed to be the use of the 7th sense. Humans have 5 physical senses -- sight, touch, hearing, taste and smell. The 6th sense would be, the ability to perceive or sense something that isn't there, like, for example, in the movie "The Sixth Sense" where the boy could sense ghosts. So in this MV SM used the "7th sense" to describe where NCT's dream state comes from. The 7th sense transcends the physical world and it deals with the dream realm. If you look up the English translation of the lyrics, you will see how they are all talking about dreaming, so each of the scenes within the MV is a different part of the dream or each of their individual dreams. (It's really worth looking up the lyrics to help understand NCT's concept and this song better.)
"The 7th Sense" came out April 4, 2016, and it is NCT-U's debut. As you saw, in this song and MV, there are 5 members who debuted as the first installment of NCT-U -- Taeyong, Mark, Ten, Jaehyun and Doyoung. This was a really important MV because it was the public's first introduction to NCT and it was NCT's first debut out of all of their sub-units.
Ten is the one in red in the room with the plants; he is NCT's Thai member and he is also a member of WayV, NCT's Chinese sub-unit. Mark is the rapper in the pink tiled room and he is Korean-Canadian; and Taeyong is the blond who is the leader of all of NCT, so he looks after all 22+ members -- Can you imagine having that job? And Jaehyun -- the one you see with the blue and green lights highlighting him -- and Doyoung -- the one with the orange hair -- are two of NCT's main vocalists.
NCT (which stands for Neo Culture Technology) currently has 23 members. And the group right now as a whole has 4 sub-units. The way NCT works is it's a group with an infinite number of members. (There are an unknown number of trainees who are still waiting to debut who could potentially become members of NCT.) As SM Entertainment's male trainees graduate from the training program and SM decides they are ready to debut, they become a member of NCT and they debut as part of one of NCT's sub-units. (They just added 2 new members at the end of 2020, who are expected to eventually become members of a new sub-unit.)
NCT is a group that is constantly changing and rearranging its members and sound and we never know quite what to expect from them. With an infinite number of members and a concept that allows the members to rotate between sub-units, changing, adding and subtracting members depending on the concept and style of the song, you should never expect the same thing from them. You are better off always expecting something new, that somehow, also ends up sounding like NCT. LOL
NCT is a very international group. The members as a whole currently represent 9 different countries and they speak 8 different languages. For example, there are 10 native Korean members (Taeyong, Doyoung, Taeil, Haechan, Jaehyun, Jeno, Jaemin, Jisung, Jungwoo and SungChan), Mark is Korean-Canadian, Johnny is Korean-American, Yuta and Shotaro are Japanese, Ten is Thai, Lucas is Chinese-Thai from Hong Kong, YangYang is Taiwanese but he grew up in Germany, Hendery is Chinese from Macau (China) and 5 mainland Chinese members (WinWin, Kun, Xiaojun, Renjun and Chenle).
NCT-U is the group that can have any number of NCT members in it depending on the concept for the song. So even though they debuted with 5 members, you will see that NCT-U is always changing up the members, and the style and sound of their songs is constantly changing. NCT-U can have anywhere from all the members or only 1 or 2 members. The U stands for United, but I also like to think of it as Universal because of the way the group never has a fixed number of members.
Fun fact: About 3 months after NCT-U debuted, in July 2016, Taeyong, Mark and Jaehyun debuted again as original members of NCT-127 with the song "Fire Truck" -- along with new members Taeil, Yuta, WinWin and Haechan.
And then about a month later, in August 2016, Mark debuted yet again, for the third time, as part of NCT-Dream -- the only NCT member to debut in all 3 original groups -- along with Haechan, and new members Jeno, Jaemin, RenJun, Chenle and Jisung. With their song "Chewing Gum." Mark was 16/17 during all of these debuts, and yet he radiates a completely different energy with each group.
However, NCT was actually introduced to the media in February 2016 as part of SM's new Neo Culture Technology concept. If you want to see NCT's official debut showcase, check out, th-cam.com/video/Ky5NvWsXnn8/w-d-xo.html. (Skip to 16:00 this is the part that has to do with NCT.) You don't necessarily need to react to it if you don't want, but it's worth watching. I think it's kind of interesting to hear Lee SooMan (the founder of SM Entertainment) explained about the creation of Neo Culture Technology and it's cool to see the epic way NCT was introduced to the media. The very first members of NCT entered wearing masks and their identities were revealed as they removed their masks. SM is kind of known for being a little extra and going over the top, and this presentation is a good example of that. LOL
SM Entertainment is known for having some of the best dancers and singers in the industry. That is just a fact about the type of people SM selects to be a part of its company. You can't be an SM artist without having amazing singing and dance skills. So even the company's rappers are unbelievable singers and dancers. That is why the company has gained the reputation as the vocal powerhouse of the industry, who also happens to have some of the industry's top dancers. When it comes to SM, this is just the skill level we have come to expect. SM is an expert at finding and developing the best singers and dancers in Kpop.
SM is the company that founded the Kpop industry with the very first Kpop idol group H.O.T. (Highfive Of Teenager) back in 1996, and they are now one of the largest and most influential entertainment companies in Korea and around the world. The company spares not expense when it comes to their videos, stages or concerts, etc. because they know that whatever they spend they will get it back 10 fold in profits. SM is one of the most innovative and trendsetting companies in Korea.
NCT is SM's attempt at taking over the music industry around the world. SM's goal is to eventually have NCT sub-units representing every major city in every country in the world. Some day they hope to, for example, take several Japanese members and create a Japanese sub-unit, or put together members from Thailand and create a Thai sub-unit, etc. It has always been SM's plan to have world domination. And to that point, right now NCT-127 is the group that SM is using to try and get their foothold in the U.S. music market with songs like "Regular" and "Highway to Heaven" and collaborations with American artists such as Jason Derulo, as well as a U.S. concert tour and promotional tours with the American media, etc.
So, this year is NCT's 6th anniversary, but debut dates are different for any number of members because it all depends on when they were added to the group. And many of the members of NCT actually became recognized by fans even before debut because they were part of SM's pre-debut group project called SMRookies, so SM did activities with several of the members before they debuted.

furthering your point about the choreo from 5:38 this is easily the hardest debut song choreo and is top 5 hardest choreos in kpop easily. It requires such delicate balance between power and gracefulness, i suggest you watch the dance version of the MV.
