  • India produces millions of tons of waste each year in agriculture and forestry. But this biomass contains much more than just rubbish. That's something groups in northern India have realized too. They're now producing briquettes from the biomass and selling them to local brick kilns.

This is such a fine idea, bunch of entrepreneurs, doing the most basic thing, collecting natural debris and producing a profit.
One thing India has is man-power and we must find ways to utilize that and achieve a better economy and nation.

Vikram Agaw this concept is flawed. They support desertification by stealing the biomass/ needled.

Making a hole in briquettes help they burn better.
Some studies have made which say that good measures are 4" (widht) 2" (height) 1" (hole).
Same effect can be achieved of course for bigger briquettes if relation is kept same.

Clever idea and double benefit. Avoiding fire hazard in the pine forest and cheap available raw material for briquettes. Considerates resources, minimizing pollution and forest clearing.

Nice video. We use the fast pyrolysis plant Fpp02 for recycling wood waste . Reactor 500 kg/h. It turns out liquid fuel for hot water boilers. From wood waste during pyrolysis, pure charcoal is also obtained. I think pine needles are a good raw material for pyrolysis.

Isn’t it strange, we in the western societies often think of people in so called 3rd world countries as being backwards but here they are showing the western world how making something that has many benefits and they’re getting a living out of it

Iirc, lignin and resin from the pine needles is what causes the briquettes to form via briquetting machine, creating lots of pressure.

A good example but I have another option: Those trees DO NOT belong to that area. The locals must replace those foreign using native trees, year by year. The reason is simple.... there´s not appropiate micro organisms action on the needle biomass. Second. This is not a forest, is just a culture. Third, birth control. Thanks a lot ! ! !
