- In this episode we look at the Chevrolet/ Holden powered Caterpillar D2 crawler tractor. It was converted many years ago by myself. I attempt to start the petrol/ gas 6 cylinder engine. And drive it around and show it working. We change the carburettor in attempt to get it to run better. #Tractor #Truck #Dieselengine #Diesel #Equipment #Abandoned #Rust #Gasoline #Petrol #Engine #Farmequipment #vintagetractors #vintagetrucks #mechanic #dieselengine #kenworth #kenworth8v71 #kenworthtrucks #detroitdiesel #willitstart #willitrun #willitstartdiesel #willitstartabandoned #abandonedtrucks #abandonedtractors #abandoneddiesel #2strokediesel #Detroitdiesel #Dieselcreekdownunder #dieselcreek #caterpillar #caterpillarD2 #holden #holden202 #chevrolet #generalmotors #engineconversion #engineering #caterpillarequipment #crawler #bulldozer #dozer #stromberg

Let me know what you all think we should do next with this one. Hopefully you can all enjoy this video of a machine I built from parts.
LS swap 😛😂
A lap of Australia on it.😜🤣
Steve ...
Love your channel. Love your family like your content.
Gday Steve, that’s bloody awesome, good tune and a good run won’t do any harm, fantastic footage from back in the day and the cab over look pretty flash as a rigid to mate, great to see the D2 moving, cheers
Interesting conversion...didn't think the 6 banger would have enough bottom end. Would love to see the Lanz start.
Also bro try not to show alchohol or smoking on youtube i love it but they will blackball u out of the main loop utube censorship is wats killing most utubers they cant make money coz they not getting paid for any reason they can monetize for them but demonitize 4 us. Help share aussie channels guys
Cmon guys like share n sub. We love watching the American will it run and trucks n tractors let get behind some good aussie channel id rather watch this type of stuff from here instead of all usa stuff this guy and old brucey are my two fave aus channels!!
Another beaut vid thanks Steve. Love the old Cat ... like something out of Mad Max. I'm a great fan of the old red Holdens. 186 was my engine of choice. I've seen an old relic forklift years ago running an old Holden repower- so quiet and smooth.
I'm still in mourning since GM shut Holden so we can't lose your channel as well. It's fair dinkum man cave stuff, complete with cool things, old memories, junk and a few cold snacks to round it all off. Looking forward to 2025 👍 BTW the 318 in the Cat would be a beast but let's keep it red for now 😊
Thanks Steve. Just started watching. Cheers Evo.
Thank you mate
Love the old red 6, car people will often bag them for being low power and do the typical v8 swap but I've always preferred the sixes. It looked and sounded like it was running pig rich with the first carb, wonder if the plugs got fouled up by that? Mine will run like shit and need the carb cleaned out if left sitting for 6 months these days, the petrol is just that bad.
If you were to spend 200 bucks or more on carby, plugs, points, leads etc on this one you might as well whack one of your other engines in and save the money I reckon.
I've bought reasonable running red sixes for $2/300 fairly recently, mates have bought fairly tired 253s for 500 odd, 308s seem to be double that now, a lot of money for still very common engines.
Thanks for the content mate.
Good old Red Engine. Always reliable. Needs a new cup on the throttle pump.
Yeah mate it does. It won’t take much to get it back to how it should run
Steve, you keep making your videos and I'll keep watching them and supporting what your doing to keep these old machines going mate. Their all part of our Aussie history.
Thank you cobber.🤠
Hello Steve hope you and the family are good enjoyed the video on the old cat D2 nice conversion mate and it kept the old girl working when the original engine was shaged out and liked the video of back in the day hope you will keep going mate love the old gear you keep finding and rescuing you don't find stuff in the UK as easy nowadays nowadays
That sounds like the standard old flat spot the old 202's had.
Yeah some CSI-ing on the engine would be good.
Yeah mate that’s right
Hi mate, I've always wanted to see it run since you mentioned it in a video.👍🏻
As for your mods, I approve your ingenuity, it's better than it getting scrapped, never to exist.🍺
I'd love to see the Bulldog getting cranked up for the old pomp pomp pomp pomp noise.😁
Have a good weekend.🍻
Hi Steve, great video on your D2-02. I've got a Oliver OC3 crawler. Motor runs in it and I've just been doing some work on it in the last week. I like your engine conversion on the Cat. If your ever up in North Queensland let me know, come and have a look at some of the machines on the place I live at.
Bloody brilliant a 202 in the D2. Be great to see a diagnostic video on the old 202. What a Sweet little machine.
ill watch anything that runns on fuel My old man had a Oliver 34model found it @ the bottom of a gully in bush where he worked for many years , Had it @ home for years, never run to many missing or broke parts & a broken drive sprocket, after the old men passed i gave it 2 an old boss 4a garden gnome @ the entrance of his logging office, only because there wasn't enough room @ my place in the town, lol
That old 6 sounds great Steve, and should run that dozer just fine. Course if you take that pound of coffee and gravel out of the carb and clean the points it may smooth out a bit...8^) Just kidding! It would make a great tug for moving your collection around on soft ground. Great video, I enjoyed it. Cheers!
Mate, this thing is awesome with the 202 but it needs a V8. A 253 would be nice. A 308…….. unbelievable 😮
Thank you Steve for putting this video up I always thoroughly enjoy watch all of your videos. It is really nice to see somebody who loves working on old equipment and also shows all of the good and bad things that happen along the way. Please put up another video on the D2 I really like watch videos on old earthmoving. They are awesome
D2-02 Lol
Give the old girl a bit of love mate, those old strommy WW single barrel carbs are okay too so unless shes rooted it'll probably scrub up okay with a kit and pump.
I did a quicky donk swap with an old Iseki orchard tractor years ago for a mates old man, He had a few old Volvos kicking around to we nicked a B20 redblock 4 cyl auto and made it work with some cheap RHS and some redgum fence posts and the old 4 speed manual.
Half a pack of CIG sticks and an old transarc and a few borrowed ratchet straps.
The old bloke shat flames about the fenceposts and the arc rods but he soon came round with the Inter bubbling around the 20 acres with a 4 foot mowing deck behind it.
Not even close to nice and solid like your Cat but im told it was still running nearly 40 years later.... I reckon it was the Italia race paint we added :-)
That’s pretty cool mate
I’ve been running a lot of our cars on 91 because 95-98 is expensive
The 202 is great engine that will run for ever if given a bit of love every now and then
all good loved the old footage keep up the good work in keeping this old iron going
Cheers
Little bit of TLC and she’ll be right as rain. Thanks Steve 👍🏻🇦🇺
Hi Steve how would a Toyota 2H go in the D2? Just a thought?
great conversion, a bit of work and she would be a great machine
Steve that is great job you have done on that little dozer with the Holden engine in it bet it would pulled a few plows and things around in its younger days for sure .keep pushing on mate you get there for sure
Careful Mate. Don't end up like your Grandfather 😳
G'day Steve, this is a Good comment, I hope you Like it " ! ( and yes I'm an idiot )
Allways good Steve and family
Thanks Ron
Well done had 179 in EH Holden
They are a good thing mate
Slowly but surely get all the rigs sitting around your place up and running; it makes for good YT content, it is fun for you, and then you’ll have a huge selection of equipment to use. Love your channel. I’ve been watching since you had a few hundred subscribers (I’ve changed my account several times, so I’ve had various screen names, but it is the same guy watching ya!). Thanks for sticking with it and sharing all these machines with us, mate.
I am slowly getting through a few of them. I’m glad you enjoy it and thanks for following as long as you have mate. It helps a lot
Worth checking the points Steve?
Oh by the way love the channel too
Plugs, Points?
Keep up the good work
Thanks for sharing
Good stuff
Nice 👍
