    So glad you got to stand on your ancestors' land!
    What a whirlwind doing that many states in a week! Miss you.

    I love seeing them little ghost towns with so many abandoned houses. I can't help to wonder how many years they were empty. Getting to stand on your tribal land had to feel spiritual :) The rock was so interesting, really enjoyed the story behind it ! Having the whole deck to yourself was pretty cool I must say :) Oh them darn flies. I hope they weren't the biting flies 🪰 Either way they sure liked your home !! That was a fun quite peaceful adventure 😊

      The old houses and towns were some of our favorite parts about the Midwest. It was an indescribable feeling being on the reservation, but I feel the need to go back and dig deeper into it. Oh and those flies were just regular house flies but they were driving us crazy. They seemed endless.

      Hi Robert! Glad we could bring back some good memories. North Dakota has a charm to it. We have a video posting Sunday that you're probably going to like. We'll be driving through some small towns away from the interstate. Thanks for watching and have a great day!

    Your video brought back a lot of memories. I drove through that area in 1999. I remember seeing the standing rock but didn’t know its significance. I also saw Sitting Bull’s grave there (and the one in South Dakota). It’s a beautiful area, and I’m glad you got to see it.

    I never say this but woohoo I’m first, after seeing y’all’s pics on Facebook I’ve been looking forward to this🧡….Y’all sure are living the life guys, I would never thought North Dakota has such low tourism, it’s on my bucket list of places to see, my buddy either went to North or South Dakota a couple of decades ago and said he drove over a hundred miles down a dirt rd with a guide to bowhunt a very secluded spot, he said he seen a Wolverine dragging a deer up a tree while he was sitting in a deer stand bowhunting, that’s the kind of wilderness I want to see one day but I’ve only left Georgia one time in 24 years and that was to Alabama lmao, maybe one day I’ll get to travel some more, I’d love to see the ocean again one day, I was hoping to see more of the reservation and hear more about your Sioux? Heritage but I enjoyed this, always enjoy seeing beautiful country, I’m gonna go back and watch your Mount Rushmore video probably tomorrow, there’s a lot of city Rockhounding videos I need to catch up on as well, he’s really churning them out too, I Appreciate You Sharing Guys, Y’all Be Safe🧡

      Thanks Bucky! That would be a sight to see with the wolverine. Wow! I wish we could have shown more but we were on our way to an upcoming destination you'll see in a coming video. We'll be back to get a deeper dive into my tribe

    So the Missouri river actually starts at Three forks Montana. Where the Gallatin, Jefferson, and Madison rivers converge to make the Missouri. I learned that while camping out there last summer. Nice thing about N Dakota, is if your dog runs away, you can see it all day. And if you hop on the roof, you can watch it run for a week lol! That is one flat state.😂

    • @TheAdventureCloset
      @TheAdventureCloset  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh that's good to know! Travel is the greatest teacher. We definitely felt that flatness in spots. Minnesota is the same too. Was hoping for some good lightning shows but didn't get any.

  • @RoamingSouthernNorway

    Another great video guys! 😁 Sometimes when you cross a border to a new state I think that it's like crossing a boarder here, which means a new language around haha so much land and same language everywhere 🤯🤯😅
    Added: excuse the messy way of writing above 🙈

    • @TheAdventureCloset
      @TheAdventureCloset  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well there are definitely different dialects. You can tell what region of the country people are from in the way they pronounce certain things. Canadians too. English is definitely the prominent language, but if you knew French and Spanish as well you could navigate the America's no problem.

    Thats amazing! Did you feel a closeness to your tribe? Its not everyday we get to explore our native side. ive not been through the dakotas. It seems like a nice place to visit. And you two are on to the next! Thanks for the brief tour and we will be with you in your travels!

    • @TheAdventureCloset
      @TheAdventureCloset  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There actually wasn't a close feeling and this video was going to go a different route but I didn't feel like bumming everybody out. It wasn't alive with people there and there just was a sadness about it. It was a weird, empty feeling being there that is really tough to explain. I wanted to find culture and the only person that came to me asked for food and when I offered food from our pantry they wanted me to follow them to a store and buy it for them. We declined. I know you understand this from what you've shared of your mixed cultures. It just wasn't what I had hoped for.

    • @largent45
      @largent45 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheAdventureCloset That is terribly sad. But after all the horrible treatment that the ancestors had to go through, just to be forced to live on a reservation, maybe it is just as well. It did look very empty, void of people, throughout the areas in your video, the dakotas are a strange area. Thanks for sharing your feelings about it.

    I really enjoyed learning about your heritage, Charlie and seeing the standing rock and hearing about its fascinating story! I don't doubt that ND is least visited state.. Alaska has the glaciers and cruises and Denali. Hahaha, I used to want to live in Alaska so bad but none of my friends would move with me. Can't believe I still haven't visited Alaska yet! That was actually a pretty nice campsite there with a gorgeous view of the sunset. Flies can ruin everything lol. Great video guys! Bye now 😁

      Alaska would be so cool to see. You probably wouldn't mind the cold up there considering where you're from. The bugs I hear are pretty bad in the summer but we're pretty sure nowhere is safe from bugs in the summer. Thanks for watching. We are so close to our Wisconsin adventures coming out.

    So cool, what amazing history! That's awesome Charlie! Really cool abandoned town, love the western look! Beautiful scenery all around you there! That's a really awesome standing rock, how cool that they brought it with them everywhere. I have to ask, did you feel anything while you were there, energy or connection? What a nice rest stop, pretty views, nice river and landscaping. Yeah, Minnesota is next, getting closer! Least busiest state, definitely my kind of state! That's cool you get notifications for your PO box, I always wondered that. Nice campsite next to the river there, pretty snd peaceful, nice looking river! Wow, I hate flies but I hate them eating you more! That's funny the way the mind works, I just felt a bite on my leg and jumped lol.

      You know it was kind of an empty feeling being there. The streets were empty besides a lady begging and it wasn't what I expected. I was looking for culture and was left with just a few signs to read and a littered beach. I need to go back and find someone to talk to.
      Yeah the flies were awful. I don't like killing bugs but sometimes you have to.

    I went to grade school in a building that looked just like that at 1:48. It was built in 1893 I believe. I noticed the old hitching post at 2:32. Very old timey kind of town. Never been to N. Dakota but it looks like Montana without the nice parts. Charlie, I had a little feeling that you were native American and maybe even Liz as well. I have read much about your history (the Sioux) and have been to Pine Ridge and I still can't imagine all of the repercussions to this day for the treatment of the indigenous people by our government. I get very sad when driving through the many reservations I have been to. The standing rock is really cool. Can you imagine having a tribute like that for ourselves after death? It seems that if you never stand up for something worthy enough, then that can never happen. I'll keep working on that. I had no idea that the Missouri was that wide still that far north. I can shoot a rock across it with a sling shot where I go in Montana. That big deck looked to me like it was an amazing "make out" site! I don't expect you to share about that but I'm just sayin'. (You remember I'm 70, right? heh) You both look precious when you are clean and bright-eyed in the morning! As soon as you start talking about what you are eating, I just have to study carefully on how I will modify recipes when you eventually come this way. (You know that I completely understand and don't mind.)

    • @TheAdventureCloset
      @TheAdventureCloset  ปีที่แล้ว

      We didn't notice the hitching post,. Good eye. We were focused on the still intact boardwalk. Pretty cool to imagine cowboys hitching their horses there while going in for a drink. The charm of North Dakota was definitely these small towns. Haha! That back deck was a very romantic spot, but what not sure if you could hear it in our voices we were both sick. I kept chocking mine up to allergies until Liz got it. As far as food goes we are pretty easy. We could eat fried potatoes every meal. We're really hoping to get back your way soon and we think it's so darn nice of you to even be considering figuring out how to feed us. Just know we always have a full pantry in our van of things we can eat.

    Definitely a lot less broke down cars in yards there than eastern Washington reservations! I was told my whole life that I was part Cherokee, nope. Great grandmother was adopted. Such a shame about the taking of other people's land 😟

    • @thegeorgiacreekwalker491
      @thegeorgiacreekwalker491 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lol, I know a lot of people who thought they had Indian princesses as distance relatives but most end up finding out otherwise, I do believe my great great grandfather was full blooded Cherokee though, his parents were killed in a car wreck and he was adopted by the walkers, my mom’s family, I really want to do the genealogy thing while my mom is still here and find out if it’s true, I have a sister that looks very Native American, my nephew made a documentary about my dad’s ancestry years ago and I found out I’m Scottish on his side, I’m actually related very distantly to Earl the Bruce I think his name was? He was a character in brave heart, Chris pine played him in a movie as well, that was cool to find out!!
