  • This was the result of a lot of requests for bringing to life some ancient Greek faces especially from the golden age. Having some personal knowledge of ancient Greece, this could be the first part of an info, teach thingy about this subject or perhaps the Persian invasions of Greece.

Of course there are Greeks that look like "Arabs" by they are not many and also they are descendants of those anatolians, middle easterns etc that they were hellenized in Hellenistic period (Hellenization).

@@supermavro6072 have you? Search in google for greek faces, models, athletes, Cypriots and also priests, that should close your mouth...
80-100% greeks looks the same as ever, there are more thousands facts and i know our history and culture by heart... there is a LOT i can explain you...
A Greek DNA is made up of all the haplogroups that brought together the Hellenic tribes, minoans, mycenaeans, dorians, ionians, corinthians, etc. These groups came from the Caucasus, northern Africa, southern Europe, the Aegean and actually from all areas around the Mediterranean. Our DNA has nothing in common with Mongolia, Western Europe, South Africa, etc., but you will find our genetic composition in all countries where greeks mingled with other Christians, this happens ugly when greeks live abroad but the natives have only mixed 99% with greeks, a genetic similarity is also found in all greek colonial areas, southern Italy, albania (only the colonial area), bulgaria, western Anatolia, egypt, etc. At the time of the Ottoman Empire, the Romans in Anatolia converted to Islam in order to save taxes and only these have mixed with other Islamised inhabitants in today’s Turkey, a mixture between Orthodox and Islamists was and is forbidden, for this reason you can find in "Turks" over 16 different haplogroups, among others Greek. The Greeks proudly continue their culture and not for nothing we have insulted and fought others as barbarians, on the mainland and on our islands we have only mixed with ourselves, because only Greeks can follow the same culture and feel it best. So if you’re looking for a Greek DNA, it’s not a single one, it’s the specific combination of haplogroups which determine our phenotypes. Since information is also stored in genetics, behaviors, diseases, temperament, etc., continue to be inherited, and that is what constitutes a specific person of an ethnic culture. ETHNOS in itself means first and foremost that all follow the same system, same language, same alphabet, same culture, same deities, etc. and that mostly these people continue to mix is also called genetic ethnicity.
We hellenes differ from the Greeks in the first place from the exact tradition, the application of virtue and especially of religion. When the Greek Romans settled down in Western Anatolia and created the Christian byzantium there (eastern roman empire), they fought the ethnic hellenes in the most vicious way to destroy Hellenism, they destroyed the statues, temples and burned down many of our books and libraries, but many of us could save and hide, so we still exist, the thought that we were wiped out is a pure rumor of the western world, which came about when the Greeks did not want to join the axis. Of course, our ethnic continuation has now prevailed and are therefore officially and legally native ethnic Hellenic, which means that our Olympic religion is also official. This may not suit the Greeks, because they think we are special, but the truth is they have to question themselves and deal with facts that reflect the bitter truth that has always been repressed by the church, especially in schools and universities ! Talk with us and you will learn a lot.
We do not ask that you greeks give up your beliefs, even if we believe that a foreign religion is not Greek, but at least we should not be seen as outsiders because we have followed the culture of our ancestors for generations and our family tree, we are just hellenes and we will make sure that we continue to exist!

They were Mediterranean for the most part, but they did have a touch of northern ancestry in them. This would show up randomly (genetic recombination). So you might have a blonde here and there, but it wasn't the norm. And it likely depended on the part of Greece in question. I have no doubt certain tribal groups (and city-states) might have looked slightly different (darker or more fair) depending on where you went. We know Greece had different cultures - the Athenians thought the Spartans were absolute nutters. It's clear they had vastly different cultures and I do not believe this was random. I think it goes way back to earlier migrations.

When we pointed it out, he adopted the same expression, and everyone was astonished to see the statue's model in the flesh.

Jesus, I can't get why some people are critical on the resemblance between ancient and modern Greek faces. What exactly would you expect to be the reference? Germanic faces? Nordic faces? African faces? Asiatic faces? Of course those people would look like modern Greeks. Greek population in mainland and the islands was never completely exterminated. Yes, there were invasions , yes there was often emigration between Anatolia and European Byzantine and Ottoman Greeks but the people were never distinguished. If you are looking for "pure" blood Greeks...guess what, they never existed. Even the ancient Greeks belonged to several different tribes. Mycenaeans, Dorians, Ionians, Aeoleans, Macedonians, etc.

They came up with concepts, and ways of thinking about the world, that is still present and strong in Western Civilization. They are the biggest of the "big three" of Western Civilization, 1. Ancient Eqypt, 2. Ancient Greece, 3. Ancient Rome. I think humanizing them is a strong approach to making people open to leaning about them.
