    I am a Beta tester on Performance Max so I have a lot of data on these campaigns. Some of the pluses are the CPC and Cost per conversion. One thing you need to do to optimize these campaigns is to have a created video. Google will build a flash card video that is pretty good if you have lots of assets in your ads. Images, text are placed by a machine so the message tends to be general. The music they choe must have been created by the person who does elevator music. It is terrible. I suggest everyone learns this campaign type because it is the future of Google advertising. The reason I say this is because it avoids the dreaded cookie and relies on Audiences. So build those custom audiences by adgroup to optimize campaigns. In the future you will be able to add keywords (still in Beta) as a signal. I agree the reporting is terrible but as with any Google product it will improve with time. Good luck it is the best campaign especially when running as a companion to a search only campaign.

    Over time google will transfer all accounts to PM and proclaims 'PM is a mixture of search and display'. We are just starting out on our Google shopping journey and G insisted on converting our campaigns to PM as a starter. I'm not sure after reading some comments below???

    • @PaidMediaPros
      @PaidMediaPros  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, Shopping campaigns specifically are being combined with Performance Max campaigns on Google, but other campaign types, Search, Display, Video, are still eligible to run on their own for the time being. That's not to say Google won't group them together further down the line, but the Shopping transition is the only one in effect at the moment. Hope that helps!

    • @PaidMediaPros
      @PaidMediaPros  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Antonio, glad you liked it! You don't have to fill in all of the sections for the audience signals, but typically the more information you give about your audience, the better Google can be about finding the right users. Good luck!

    Great video as usual! Do you have any deep dives on the Asset group stage? I'm assuming that people are still not confident uploading a bunch of images and text and hope that Google magically assembles it and delivers to the right audience... Example: NBA campaign for Lakers and Bulls... would google me smart enough to match lakers images with lakers headlines and lakers audience
    ? and bulls images with bulls headlines and audience?

    One question, once we use the "Performance Max" campaign, does it mean actually we dont need to separately set up ads for display, shopping, discovery campaign? in this case, how do we control budgets on different placement?

    • @PaidMediaPros
      @PaidMediaPros  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Eddy, great question! If you have specific strategies you want to roll out, i.e. placements to target on Display or product groupings within Shopping, it would make sense for you to continue testing those even with Performance Max. All budgets will be controlled at the campaign level, but you won't be able to control the spend across each placement since they could technically show up in both the regular campaign and PMax. At this time, there's no way around that from what I can tell.

  • @johnhoge4430
    @johnhoge4430 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What happens when you have lots of brand traffic and good organic ratings so that that brand traffic is mostly free? Will Performance Max just scoop up everything that is currently free and mix it in with new traffic to show an artificially high return?

    i can see performance max in my ads account. itching to test it. it does take a lot of the load off but then google trying to control most of the things in a campaign kind of makes me think twice..

    • @PaidMediaPros
      @PaidMediaPros  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dibyendu, I absolutely agree with you that you should think twice if Google is going to control everything. So far, Performance Max still has mixed results for different accounts we've worked on. It absolutely is worth a test as your account could be one that sees strong results, but I would keep the budget low and keep a close eye on it in case you're not. Good luck!

    Thank you for the detailed explanation.
    These campaigns sound great, and then... Let's say my company manufactures/sells faucet O rings (for the sake of argument). We have never been able to see the logic behind the audiences. The same with display. No one wants, shops for, or buys these products unless they need them. Shoving them in front of thousands of people isn't going to provoke a response. The person with a leaky faucet already knows they need a repair part. And, the manufacturers of faucets aren't sitting around waiting on ad to pop at TH-cam. What sort of affinity could there be? Matching to someone that bought a kitchen sink?
    These campaigns seem to do very poorly for manufacturing and industrial type products. The AI has done very poorly for us. After 15 years, there are many times that we still have to ask the Google account managers if they understand what we are selling.
    I do see them doing well for general consumables, collectibles, or "hey, Blizzard has a new game released!", clothing (Google knows who is buying kids clothes), and a myriad of other categories.

    • @eliserichardson7172
      @eliserichardson7172 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Try creating custom search intent audience around the issue that your prospective customer is trying to solve - leaky faucet, replacement o rings, plumbers, etc. Also try creating a custom audience around people who have visited your competitor websites, plumbers, parts websites. If it's a B2B sale, I would focus on the wholesale / vendor terms instead of consumer queries, the same with the website targeting. Hope this helps!

    Do you advice us to seperate new user and remarketing in performance max campaign ? Or does google do it on their own. As in our business a customer may purchase from us once every 3 years so after a user do a purchase we put him out of our funnel.

  • @chinnobi

    Thank you for this explanation of P-Max ads. Based on your experience do you see this still as a complimentary type campaign or could it be used as a stand alone given how it spans across multiple areas. I've typically done a combination of search and display ads for clients, but with new clients I am curious if it would be better to start off with a P-Max and then based on based on goals/performance compliment the P-Max with a Search or Display ad. Thoughts? Thank you in advance and appreciate what you both share on your channel!

    • @PaidMediaPros

      Hi Ben, great question. We're still pretty old school and like to utilize the more "controlled" campaign types as priority for most of our accounts: display and search. From our perspective, Performance Max are good complimentary types but, so far, haven't proven to be strong enough to completely take over. Thanks!

      Google suggests that you to not do that. You can have a standard shopping campaign and a smart shopping one. Consider also that you can divide the smart shopping campaign into multiple ad groups to personalize and control it even more.
