I've been a fan of 914 v8 conversions for a long time and owned 2 of them back in the late 1990's. Both were home-grown jobs with Kennedy engineering components and used the original transaxles thus needing to avoid 1st gear. I had read about Renegade and was impressed with their work before the advent of youtube came along. Our 1st car was a driver when I bought it and had a basically stock 283 engine which made it fun and driveable, Sold it and decided to build one for ourselves to be a street terror. Since I was the driver for a touring drag racing team in Connecticut we figured we would simply have our engine builder from Moroso throw together an over-built small block for this build. However we ran another low price Kennedy engineering kit and this was a huge mistake. The radical small block, when it wasn't overheating, over powered the clutch immediately whenever the car got traction. Went through discs weekly. When the thing did work it simply incinerated the one traction tire due to the one-legger transaxle. Once in a while it did take off decent once rolling at 40 mph and was terrifying fast. Looking back on this, we should have bit the bullet and gone with Renegade components and a modified 930 4sp transaxle with the ring gear flipped along with a milder engine and would have had a nice car. However being drag racers we thought more was better motor-wise and learned the hard way. We sold the car minus the engine and that was our v8 914 experience. From what I see in these videos, Renegade does things right and along with that they don't over power the cars to the point we did thus creating short wheelbase unmanageable handfuls.

That exhaust is amazing! The matte black coating is very satisfying.

Wow, a modern 6 speed in a 911? Awesome! I bet that gets through the gears quicker than the old 915. Or my 951 trans, LOL!

I love the g96 trans in my car. the only difference was a milled down the snout of the box to not have to cut into the car

What a shame to do all that good work just to through a LS engine in this build. It always seems to be the answer for ppl who don’t have the money for what should be in that car (not saying swaps can’t be done well either, it’s just that you have seen ppl shove LS motors into literally everything and anything…) 911’s just aren’t right without the boxer motor rumble… it’s just like Sti’s with their boxer motors or RX 7 with their rotary engines… maybe a Mercedes and bmw v8 would have been an interesting swap keeping it all German not to mention LS motors don’t rev out anywhere close to what the stock Porsche motors are capable of doing, same for the other German motors which would have made more sense. But to each their own, I’m sure it’s a fun ride, it just doesn’t add up money wise to do a whole build like that to then stick in an LS, if they were so dead set on a v8 you really should have gone with a German v8 than at least it would be more interesting.

@metatron5199 Ok, I will bite. Based on weight -vs- performance, then cost -vs- performance, name another (more "interesting") V8 engine that delivers the same HP and torque as the LS with stellar reliability and superior low cost. Make sure it's the same overall weight as the air-cooled 911 engine that came out like the LS that took its place...Oh, and 180lbs LESS than a 930 turbo 911 engine that still can't match the LS torque and reliability, and costs more than 5 new LS3's directly from GM. Hint? There isn't one. There is, however, several big reasons why LS engines are so popular, and why we chose light, strong, reliable, cheap, and common, over "interesting." As a small and successful business of 40+ years, we have considered many other conversion projects and entertained a huge array of power plants. We've even completed a few more "interesting" conversions that just didn't match-up and consequently didn't sell. Plus, the four indisputable attributes of the LS that make the 911 better when converted, help drive our business and keep us going! "Interesting" can be found quite liberating in an LS converted 911 when you can spend many more reliable miles looking out the windows of your vastly improved performance sports-car, than staring at yet-another repair bill that cannot justify the underwhelming engine performance and maintenance costs that dont make sense.

@metatron5199 FYI... Not sure where you may be gathering your info, but stock GM Performance LS engines Rev the same as stock 911 engines. We don't modify the tach red-line when we do the conversion...it's all the same. If you reference a high-end twin plug RSR performance engine and the cost to build that 8200 rpm trophy, I can do the same with an LS for a fraction of the cost.

@@RenegadeHybrids as soon as you bring cost into it an LS is essentially going to win and everyone knows that and its a exactly why they are as popular as they are, its the cheapest bang for your buck but its by no means the best option especially for certain builds. Also the idea that an LS is somehow a superior to Porsches flat six is crazy, and to say its not reliable is just as crazy as well, the Germans are literally responsible for setting the standard of reliability. That’s also not taking into account the tune on the motor as well….Also just because it weighs the same doesn’t mean its going to sit well in the engine bag and by the looks of it you have half of it hanging past the rear axle, the stock motors sit in front of the rear axle, so the weight distribution with the LS doesn’t look ias good, and 911’s are already poorly weighted/have a bad engine layout (it should have been a mid engine like all the fastest race 911 have ever been) so putting anymore weight further back doesn’t help anything about the cars dynamics and most certainly hurts it. Like I said to each their own, if you like having the most commonly swapped motor around and its standard reliability gets you to sleep at night than great I’m happy for you, but for me personally if I was spending that type of money to build a 911, you might as well do it right the first time around and spend the extra to get the more expensive but important items imo, and if you were trying to for more cylinders why not go with a v10 like a bmw s85, now that would be wild and sound crazy, or why not even go with a v12 (and yeah i know your going to say it wont fit, but that’s why you make it fit and spend the extra money to do it right) like an older Mercedes M120 or bmw’s M70 v12. You could have gone with the audi R8’s 5.2L FSI v10 too, or if you were so committed to the v8 idea you could have went with the audi R8’s 4.2L FSI v8 or even bmw’s S65 v8 or their S58 v6 twin turbo. No need to explain why these wont work etc. bc you’ve already made it clear how closed minded you are about the subject matter and like I said that’s fine, just like its fine to swap an LS3 into a 911 bc its the cheapest solution to get the hp number you wanted, which is fine and all if that’s the only goal you had, and since you don’t care if you are doing what everyone else does when they face the inevitable question of how much hp do you want to make on what given budget than congrats to you not caring if you are picking the lowest common denominator answer to your questions. Instead of asking yourself honestly what you want out of it and letting performance dictate the build and when budget becomes an issue you find ways to make it work without changing the overall integrity of the planned build, but then again not everyone can make cars like Singer or Guntherworks I get it, plus you could do an equivalent build to one of there’s for a fraction of the price so long as you built it yourself so there’s also that fact too. Cheers
