This guy's so color bright, you could see him from orbit! Lol
He's a muddy rose color. Also, the rank insignia is Taiwanese/Republic of China Army for "Private-Specialist." He's ranked as a Specialist, so, given that the figure was made in Asia, I'm guessing whomever was in charge of the paint apps just used whatever "specialist" insignia they could lay their hands on as a template. As a note, the original Tripwire had red stripes that were the same as this, and had a thinner striped version as well.
I wasn't a younger kids when Liste. 'n Fun Tripwire came out but I can tell you one thing, this figure was my favorite as an older kid. In my G.I. Joe universe he served as the commander of G.I. Joe and trained Snake eyes all of his martial arts skills.

Oh God, my brother actually had this guy. We didn't get him in a toy store, but in this little greeting card store that also had a small toy section. It was the only place I knew that actually stocked the final year of vintage Star Wars figures, and that's why we were there. But my little brother saw this guy and just HAD to have him. To this day, he can't remember why, but we got him too. I tried to listen to the tape, but I couldn't get thru it. Lol!
Hey HCC, yes he did come in a bag, no tape. I remember it very well cause he was on the counter of a store called "Treasure Island " when I lived in Brooklyn. They sold alot of martial arts stuff, heavy metal shirts, and lots of imports and knockoffs. So here I see him on the counter along with "Keel-Haul", there were a lot of them. I got the Keel-Haul and I was so excited cause he came with his gun and file card and he was all original colors and I didn't have to buy the Flagg to have him. (My parents never got me the Flagg cause it was too big.)I thought Tripwire was a knockoff, so I passed. It wasn't until my adult life that I found out about Listen and Fun, I never saw it on any shelves when I was younger. But I couldn't believe he wasn't a knock off. Made me wish I had bought him too. But again, yes he did come in a bag. Oh and it's Magenta!

Sadly... I did own this figure. I got it in 1986 when left over inventory was still on the shelf at a local Kay-Bee toy store. I missed the boat on getting 1983 GI Joe figure(Return of the Jedi figures ruled my playtime that year), and I couldn't get anyone I knew to trade their V.1 Tripwire. I really liked how Tripwire was used in the Sunbow cartoon episode "Captives of Cobra" being an obscure explosives weapons specialist. I liked the character, and so I thought at the time 'now or never' so I got THIS figure! I didn't care at the time about the color scheme. Eventually, I listened to the tape and... WOW! Mind blown. I think some of the same voice actors also did a Read Along Batman & Robin- 'Case of the Laughing Sphinx' cassette and storybook. My mom heard the bad Ronald Reagan voice and asked what I was listening to. I told her it was something Dad got me. She was not a fan of Ronald Reagan, still isn't. What this tape can claim is it has bad Reagan and bad Peter Lorre impersonations... That's gotta be a first somehow!

The color to me looks like it's puse. Hot pink would be like Ninja Force Zartan file card. I passed this action figure several times in 85, thinking it was a knock off. Thanks for reviwing this one B. I appreciate him a lot more as an adult.

I had this when I was nine, but I was so excited at discovering how to record over cassettes that I ruined it. Then I felt bad, so I tried to perform and record my own reenactment of it.
In other words, I was an idiot.
Somehow I had this guy as a kid and he was the Joe that always got captured by cobra and had to be rescued by my cooler Joes!
I got my L'n'F cassette tape for a quarter at a yard sale about 10 years ago. (I think he's Red)

For some reason tripwire was one of my favorite joes as a kid..i was to old for the whole listen n fun gimmick when he was released but because it was tripwire i scooped this guy up as soon as i saw him in the toy isle
Yea he wasnt that good for his colour but tbh he was as good as the other tripwires in articulation and stuff, you even get a free audio adventure on tape with him so i wouldnt have complained at all :) i was a kid with a wild imagination so tripwire would probably have placed mines aswel as an attack lol

About two years ago I saw a MOC Listen 'n fun Tripwire listed with a buy-it-now option for $200. Man things have changed. I just got him complete loose online, I don't even want to say how much haha. Moral of the story is log off of eBay after the third beer
I think the color is close to amaranth. This Tripwire obviously disarms mines in the lady's restroom although he could be used as a Power Ranger. I like how Igor's voice was on the tape.
Holy Moly the voice of Cobra Commander on the tape!!!! Can I thank you from the bottom of my heart Bryan for making me laugh so hard to this video. I remember getting audio tapes with booklets I would buy to film's that had just come out. For example I had one of the Goonies and one for Rambo etc. Happy Halloween to all the family.
I just picked him up. It's red, for one thing, and two it's not like a lot of the figures from the first series had many paint apps, or detail, and you love them. Tripwire has sufficient enough detail. 4 or 5 colors. That's more than your beloved Stalker.
I remember it was in like a booklet with tripwire on the bottom right and the cassette was above him.
Burgundy, Magenta, Maroon are all colors I would use
before getting close to using "pink." The only time pink gets that red is when it is Pink Eye...

Unrelated to colors...the explosives guy is one that I would be OK with being loud colors, except that red and orange don't match! Brown padding would've been just fine.
the color is a dark Fushia. Which is more closely associated with pink and Magenta. All of it is in the Red color spectrum. But if we're splitting hairs (and we are) its pink.

Hope you are feeling better. I know it was been three years but you know. Those read-a-long, Peter Pan, Power Records, insert brand here, stuff was so great. I guess with so much content geared towards kids of all ages they are not competitive in the marketplace.

I think the "lost parts in the yard" problem is a component of the wild colors they started moving to - that and the 80s and early 90s were berserk for the hypercolors... and ninjas.

It is a pink or maroon to me, like the Mega Viper from the early 90's... the color scheme should have been sandy brown and green.👍

It's a red slightly lighter than crimson. You may want to try an online color blindness test - males in general are more susceptible to being a little color blind toward reds.
I'm going to side with Mrs. HCC on this one, it's red and this is coming from someone that is red/green colorblind and I can clearly see it as red!
The helmet and armor is Magenta, great review and nice to see all the different later versions of the figure.

Great review! This version of Tripwire does not look as good as version 1. I owned the Tiger Force version as a kid, and plan on buying version 1 eventually as an adult. Regardless of the version, I liked the accessories. This version of Tripwire is the ugliest in my opinion. In regard to the helmet and padding color, I think it's maroon, not really red or pink.

I think for something like this, there wasn't much of a meeting, probably something that came up at the meetings end when some said "Oh yes there's that listen and fun Tripwire project" and someone said "Just pass it down to lower management and get it out, I don't have the time!" 😅

Colours can be hard to distinguish, particularly on different displays with different settings. The first is burnt red (which is what it looks like to me), the second is hot pink.
