But don't worrie it was my medicatin kiking in and you explanation of how the whole thing works is great and right to the point. Thank you very much for sharing this wonderful idea with us all. I tried this using a 16" pipe cleaner. It works great, and results in a tree trunk that looks like a tree trunk. To give it a tapered look, I singed the cloth wrapping (or whatever it is) off the pipe cleaner - about 4 inches or so, where I knew the top of the tree would be. I just singed one of the two lengths of pipe cleaner, so while the bottom of the tree included 2 pieces of full pipe cleaner, the top end of the tree included 1 length of pipe cleaner and 1 length of singed, bare wire. I then did the twisting, and it came out tapered. Finally, I singed the very top of the tree, say 1/4 inch or so.

For those interested, the actual tutorial part starts at around 7:50. the trees came out really nice. the way it was explained it seemed like it was going to be very difficult and a lot of tedious work, but once i saw you make a couple - i was amazed at how simpe and easy it is! i've seen a couple of these tutorials - one a lady did by hand using a paper tree shape, garden twine, and floral wire. She used floral twine and twisted her trees by hand and they came out great. they were small trees though. i was thinking a machine like this might overcomplicate that simple process, but here i can see that ease, volume, and variety is the benefit - you can make multiple trees of varying sizes with this machine and, i'm assuming, it's much easier on the hands! so well done. How much is that machine you use? Or is i something that can be made as a diy project?

Thanks so much for sharing. Can you tell us what you used as a stop to make your wire not keep twisting? (the blue & silver tool)

Nice to see your method. I have made my on tree making machine. You can see it in my n scale vlog 64 and part 65. And I use the green paint as a glue.

Never overkill on hair spray. Have trees on layouts that were up for years so anything to keep stuff on them.

Awesome. I will need oodles of trees for my layout and this is the ticket. I wonder how much the tool costs. Thanks for sharing this.

Would respraying the trees with hair spray hold all in place and protect from damage or is this overkill? Allow to dry again then place??

Safety thought while watching .Those pipe cutters are razor sharp and you leave it under your wrists and wide open next to the edge so it falls in your legs ??

I am sure if you go to the McKensey Bros Site the people who make the devise they could comment. Going to say wire I use is about 22 gauge. you could go smaller. But remember you really do not see the wire.
