Buggy was a true homie almost the entire arc. He helped Luffy despite having the opportunity to abandon him after Luffy gave him the bracelet he got from Thriller Bark.

To be fair that was mostly due to accidentally falling down the pit with him and then being to weak to try to escape alone.

Things I love:
- this endlessly straight hallway
- Bentham running with his arms straight up the whole time
- Luffys outfit matches Buggy's nose and hair
Its not a hallway they're running around in circles, the whole room is a disk with an opening in the middle.

@@td2838 he actually has the same potential as Shanks, but his envy at how easily Shanks kept up with, as well as Buggy putting everyone else on Roger's crew on an unreachable pedestal caused a mental block that prevents him from reaching that potential /fanon.

The first part of One Piece had a kind of humor that I feel got lost in the second half. Buggy's reaction is hilarious, and the funniest part is Luffy isn't even being mean here; he just genuinely doesn't remember.
Oh it still shows up. The advent of Go D. Usopp might be my favorite joke of the whole show.
Considering this was over 400 episodes in, talking about first half vs second half seems reductive.
There's definately still funny bits later. 😊

I love the implication that the buggy and muggy balls aren't something one of Buggy's crew made that he got credit for, but that buggy himself made them and was able to perfectionate them good enough to reduce the size THAT much

to be honest its very impressive that buggy managed to sneak a weapon that powerful into prison, plus the guards not realizing he had df powers. if he could have managed not being noticed for a while he actually may have been able to break out on his own since he only had the one level to go through, he probably would have been screwed trying to get abord a ship though
Yeah I think he conciled it inside of his shoe thanks to his DF powers. Like you said, the guards didn't even know he had DF powers so it makes sense he was still able to keep it there
I love all the subtle ways Oda implies that buggy is actually fully capable of doing the things he wants to do, he’s just stupid. Kind of the opposite of Luffy, who is stupid but achieves his often impossible goals

You have to give credit to Buggy for this honestly. Those cannonballs wiped out a large portion of Orange Town, which is pretty big in itself. He's managed to make it fit in his shoes, and with his Devil Fruit he can detach it and aim the ball freely. Given that this is Buggy we're talking about here that's pretty clever

Impel Down is one of my favorite arcs in One Piece. I love seeing Luffy work with Buggy and the former members of Baroque Works.

The funniest part of this scene, that no one seems to be talking about, is how Buggy could have fired off the Muggy Ball at any time, but he first felt the need to explain his move to Luffy.
I love how Buggy is still just as fast with his depressed run. The power of Buggy's plot armor, he can achieve anything as long as its funny.

Mr. 3 dissing Buggy’s naming conventions when “Mini Buggy Ball” doesn’t roll off the tongue nearly as well as “Muggy Ball”.
Given that Luffy was able to bounce back a Buggy Ball like he would a normal cannonball, it's no surprise that it didn't leave much of an impression on him. Still, credit where credit is due, Buggy's a crafty devil to not only have the same explosive power packed into small pill-sized ball, but also smuggle some into Impel Down.

Y'know what's really hilarious? Luffy does remember a lot of stuff from his past adventures. He's not that scatter-brained. He may not remember people like we do (Pineapple Marco, anyone?) but he does remember. Which makes this scene funny because it's almost like Luffy is messing with Buggy, but we know he's not.
I don't know why, but the way Luffy says "iie", especially the second time, sends me into a roaring fit of laughter every time.
I can't believe I actually grew to love Buggy over the years. I really like his pony tail design during this arc, makes him look a bit more badass. And the Muggy Ball is a badass scene itself 💯
And the fact that it's only a "Muggy Ball" because it's literally just a mini Buggy Ball.
One of the best One Piece arcs IMO and super underrated! And Magellan was an awesome powerful villain that is one of the very few that have defeated luffy. It’s just too bad most of his screen time was on the toilet

I just watched a few episodes of this show recently. It’s crazy how much the art style changed. One of the only episodes I watched was the guy with the buggy ball. That was when he met the navigator girl who really likes treasure.
