    Wow finally a good video on this subject instead of a class that is totally irrelevant without a real quad. Thank you so much. I have been needing one for many years now and I am finally in the position to possibly get one(thank you covid 19 relief check lol) but i have always been Leary thinking that I would have to leave the sling in the wheelchair. This makes total sense thank you so much!

    • @hildy208

      fernlintner65 I avoided getting one for a long time because I thought we’d have her sitting on a sling all day. Thankfully I figured it out. I’m a slow learner. Lol

    Thank you for sharing this! Could you also show what the ceiling mount part looks like and how it functions? How you installed it, and how you decided which type of lift to get?

      Carissa Nauman Yes I will make that video for you and let you know when it’s up. I don’t think we really researched which one to buy. The vendor had one they recommended and we went with that. We’ve had it probably five years now and I think the battery pack needs to be replaced. But it’s been a solid piece of equipment. The brand is Prism Medical. It has made my life significantly easier once I actually learned to use it. At first I couldn’t really find any good training videos on it and it just seemed like a hassle. But now we’ve got our system down and it’s great.

      @GeminiBlood4d4 it was a real shock and honestly a real tragedy when Scarlet became ill and lost her mobility. But it’s been twenty years now and we’ve gotten used to this life and handle it pretty well. Scarlet is a talented writer and I think that one day in the near future you may see one of her books at the bookstore. Disability is a natural part of life for everyone, if you live long enough. We got this sling through Norco. The brand is “Waverley Glen a Prism Medical Company.” The number 003846 is stamped on it but I’m not sure if that’s an item number or not. It’s by far the best sling we have. It looks like you can buy one online through serfinitymedical.com

    Can i ask, when you go to the toilet do you have to pull trousers on and off on the bed or can you do it whilst on the hoist? And do you have to basically wear leggings and more stretchy trousers if toileting?

    • @hildy208
      @hildy208  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@hipster01cg we can do it while on the hoist, although some pants are easier than others. The secret is to push the pants legs up towards the knees, then push the fabric around the thighs up towards the hips before raising the patient on the lift. That way, you have ample room in the seat of the pants to pull them down and more importantly to pull them back up while in that flexed position. Does that make sense?

    • @hipster01cg
      @hipster01cg 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@hildy208 yeah I had trouble with my linen trousers and we were on a ferry which actually had a "changing places toilet", I mean it was very hard to get them past. In the end my mum lowered me more to the ground and dad pulled up the trousers as if I was almost standing. When I lie down my breathing muscles make it hard to breathe on my back so I'd need to stick a mask on and ventilator.

    When did she get diagnosed with cerebral palsy

    • @hildy208
      @hildy208  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      She had an illness at 17 months that caused a brain bleed. Up until that point she had been healthy and typically developing. It was a difficult time, but she’s an incredible person. I’m very proud of her.

    Couldn't they have taken the shoes off the child before putting them on the bed? The watch on the wrist really helps to scratch the patient.

    • @hildy208
      @hildy208  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@VictoriaShcherbyna Not sure why the shoes matter, it is her choice when to take the shoes off and that’s just how she likes it. The watch has never scratched her, but when I first got it, it did accidentally dial 911. That was embarrassing. Scarlet is 21 now, a grown woman and doesn’t hesitate to let me know her preferences and when something is uncomfortable.

    • @hildy208
      @hildy208  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because we were searching for instructional videos for the lift and only finding ones made for nurses and patients. We were hoping that this would find the healthcare providers that need to see it.
