  • I am not a professional mechanic. This is not professional advice. I am merely a backyard mechanic. Work on cars at your own risk. In this video I show you how to replace a door lock actuator /door latch assembly in a 2006 Ford Fusion. It was not an easy fix but it did save me over $600.00 by doing it myself.

    Thanks for the video. I just changed the front passenger door actuator in my wife's Ford Fusion. This job was a total pain in the a$$. I had to drill out the rivets that allow the metal panel to attach to the window regulator. There is no other way to remove the metal panel in order to get access to the actuator. I believe the mechanics at a Ford Service Center would have to do the same when they do this repair!!! What I did NOT do but will have to do eventually is to re-attach the regulator to the metal plate with bolts and lock nuts. I did not have bolts at the time of repair. The window regulator seems to be affected by the loss of the support rivets. I can lower the window, but it rolls up unusually slow. Ford should have used bolts rather than rivets. I suppose that's one reason why Ford doesn't make cars anymore. I also have to replace a back door actuator. Thankfully, I believe the back door replacement will be easier than the front doors. If anybody has replaced the rivets with bolts, I'd like to know what size you used??? Thanks!!!

    Mine just broke on my 2007 fusion... I was successfully able to fix the broken door handle issue myself via a youtube video - but this one looks a little more challenging. Lol.

    Are the rivets holding anything in place? Have a hard time believing they were there just for more support. Were they used to hold the window track in place perhaps?

    Scott, Thanks for posting about the actuator and not the inside door handle like everyone else. I have the same problem, except my drivers door broke in the closed and locked position. I''ve tried just about everything short of destructive measures to get the door open but I am at the end of the line. Rather than destroy the inner door panel which is a fairly rare trim option (hard to find) I think I will have to cut a hole through the perfectly good outer door panel to access the latch.
    My question for you - do you know if the 3 screws that hold the mechanism to the door can be accessed from the inside/back to allow me to drill them out once I cut the door open?? If not, I supposed I will likely have to take an angle grinder to the thing.
    I really can't believe Ford designed this in such a way that the door can fail in a permanently closed fashion.

      Same thing happened to me. I lucked when somehow my panic alarm went off after turning it off, the latch opened.
      I thought about cutting from the outside too. Friend suggested cutting from inside. You can get most of the inner door off except the two trim screws.
      I made a tool by grinding down an old Allen wrench to get the top one out.
      Figure the bottom one would have to be sacrificed. Then the panic alarm incident.
      Put in new latch and all works again

    You told us to drill out the rivets but you never showed us how to hold the regulator in place while trying to rivets ot back on..incomplete video

  • @franciscolandin4564
    @franciscolandin4564 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Scott there’s no need to drill out the rivets you can just simply remove the bolts for the window and is really easy and a lot of access to remove the latch you did a lot of extra work that wasn’t needed.

    • @denzilbritt2314
      @denzilbritt2314 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you know how to get to the actuator without drilling out the rivets how about making a video demonstrating how you did it?

    • @doughboyracing
      @doughboyracing ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@denzilbritt2314 You only drill out the rivets if you are replacing the regulator. After removing the bolts from the frame, you have to unbolt the glass from the regulator and tape it in place, then lower the regulator with the power window switch. Then the metal frame can be moved aside enough to get the door lock out. be sure to remove the outer handle so it can all come out like he said in the video.

    nice video and much credit to you because your the only one who posted a video about replacing the lock actuator. I have a question for you in the end did you replace the rivets you drilled out? I'm about to do the same job but passenger side and I'm curious if you can leave it without the rivets.

      I used a Hilman 1/8” drywall anchor and three metal washers. Without it that metal rod clunked when the door closed. Be careful drilling through the metal and rivet there is a thin wire behind it for something. One guy posted to disconnect the window then bar is out of the way. I drilled .

    I had a 1990 Ford bronco. The actuator was a total pain in the ass to change as well. My suggestion is when the actuator goes, it’s time to sell the vehicle 😂 .Shortly after that everything else started going out at 10 years old and 140,000 miles.

    • @joecerniglia2653
      @joecerniglia2653 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I saw your comment and played with my old one to find a way without breaking the $10 yellow replacement bushing. You need to disconnect it from the door latch. Then slide the rod through the yellow bushing on the actuator. You will notice that the top of the rod is narrower at the top.
