I love james, but he's so obviously full of shit here. Now that the director has passed, he can speak freely. If you listen to recent interviews he has nothing but utter disdain for the movie. But I guess in this business you got to play the game. You don't want to burn bridges that can make you a lot of money. It's a great movie but it doesn't live up to the book if you've read it
when he's out talking he's trying to sell a. his books & b. his latest book. He's going to play up the grumpy writer act and say that the book is better. Of course it is, a film is a differente medium. He knows very well that even a bad or mediocre film will also help to sell more books. That said now I think his books are better suited to prestige tv, more time and room to follow the intricate plots and characters
