@@beans316 It is definitely not Solani Burley Flake but that said, it is a very good Burley Flake. I know you are not a big fan of Burley so I don't know that I could recommend it for you. Burley lovers will eat it up.

I started wrapping the lid/seal on all my square tins, especially my square Mac Baren tins with Parafilm tape when I saw that rust on one of the tins. Love that ODF!
I just opened another one of these tins and am smoking it right now. Mine was also from November 2012 and was all (c)rusted as well. My tin has also been kept in the dark in a low moisture environment. I happen to be rather big on burley blends, so it's probably no surprise that this is in my top two blends -- the other being Old Joe Krantz. If you aren't into burleys I can see how it might not be your thing :) Nice video! Best, Eric

I had the rust on mine as well. You and I have the same exact taste. Smokeable but very singular in its taste profile. You can tell it’s quality ingredients like all of MacBaren’s products. You definitely won’t like the bold Kentucky. It’s like old dark fired on steroids. Haha
Funny I was just looking yesterday to see if you reviewed old dark fired. This is a favorite of mine and have quite of few tins on hand i just ordered the reddy rub version. I wanted to try. I have found rust on a lot of tins of many different brands but didn't effect the seal or the tobacco.

This blend is nice fold and stuff ..I find if it's ruffled up a bit .then stuffed in a mmm taller bowl , it durns nicely. Not harsh at all as well to drink I find water goes best.....still trying to find what goes best with different tobacco's...thanks for sharing..keep'em lit..
I've noticed smidgeons of rust forming on the edge of my MB tins so I only imagine it will continue to spread. I really like the HH Latakia Flake. I need to revisit my ODF to form a better opinion.

I don't buy the tins always buy it in bulk. I've have bought the tins before and I liked it ok. Decided to start buying the ready rubbed and don't ask me why but rubbed out sitting in the jar I love it. What you buy in the tin and what you buy ready rubbed is not the same. At least its not to me. Theres just something different in the ready rubbed. I can't explain it. Take care Brian.
James Long Yeah James you get mixed reviews no matter who you ask some like tins some like bulk . I bought a bunch of HH Pure Va bulk going to let it rest awhile and try it cause I know I love it in tins
@@beans316 I'd be interested to here if you see any difference in the Pure Va bulk vs the tins. I swear you could blindfold me and load two pipes. You give me 5 min with both pipes I bet I'd pick the ready rubbed out every time. That'd be an interesting experiment.
Hey Brian, I vaguely remember Per Jensen from Mac Baren addressing the rust issue a while back. I can’t remember the details at this point but I recall the main takeaway being that it wasn’t a big deal or anything to be concerned about and that the tobacco was protected inside the wrapper.
The rust is from the vinegar in the blend. Any blend with vinegar as a preservative is likely to happen. Hence the vinegar ketchup smell which is in all Kentucky fire tobacco
@@beans316 I haven’t tried the bold yet. I love the taste of bold strong tobaccos if it’s done right but the nic can make me woozy lol. I definitely wanna try it though. I’m definitely digging some of the cigar blends like key Largo etc.
We only get MacBaren in pouches these days here in the UK so can’t say I’ve had a rusty tin from them. I’m a burley lover but for some reason this blend has never quite done it for me neither.
Ive had this cellared for a while...Ill need to check my tins now too! Never tried it yet. I know some just rave about it and others...not so much. I agree HH pure Va is GOOD.
I bought some different tobacco's some of them I put in my cigar humidor after I open them and they rusted like that I think it's just the high humidity in the ones I stored outside in the cabinet we're fine
I wasn't a big fan of ODF. But I'm not a big fan of Burleys in general. I liked HH Burley Flake slightly better but still only 6 out of 10. To me, Solani Aged Burley Flake and HH Burley Flake are indistinguishable but my pallet isn't all that discerning.

one of my all time favorite tobacco's I always get a hint of cinnamon in the back. I have a pipe dedicated to this tobacco. so good.

John Uhl I’m 50 also and that’s my goal is to have enough when I retire it sucks about the rust but the flakes were fine
My 2015 HH Bold Kentucky did that but seal and baccy were good...very smooth with that kind of age

Try that Bold Kentucky! I consider ODF the Little Sister blend to BK. BK is a lot stronger in nic so you are warned lol.
