Giant Trance E+ 1 Pro Review - $5.6k

  • The Giant Trance E+ 1 Pro is a beautiful full-suspension electric mountain bike with quality components, excellent warranty and dealer support, and four frame sizes to accommodate riders of all sizes. Color-matched components look great along with the seamless downtube integration of the battery and internally routed cabling. Huge range of 11 to 50 teeth on a 1x12 SRAM drivetrain, proprietary Giant SyncDrive Pro mid-drive motor and powerful SRAM Code R hydraulic disc brakes. Battery charging port is in the path of the left crank arm, and charging the battery off the bike requires a separate dongle that could get lost.

    Well done review and the enthusiasm of the Fullerton bikes people is outstanding. I have been into so many bike shops where they have no enthusiasm at all and don't know their products. These guys are great.

    I believe one of the main specs you barely talked about is how Giant has not only worked with Yamaha to improve the engine But Also how they have developed a specific software that allows the bike to be really efficient in battery consumption a power aid with up to 8 different sensors including an inclinometer which is key to giving the right support when needed.
    There is a lot to be said about this Yamaha engine but it seems that Shimano and Bosch are doing much better job at promoting theirs.

      Another thing that nobody ever talks about which is I mean really kinda dumb is, even the great flexibility of the software of the syncdrive software (which allows you to tune assist at 5 main levels at 3 sublevels each), still does not allow you to to to 0-100% at each one of those levels. Specialized mission control Brose motors lets you and Shim with Steps Unlocker lets you do this. A bike's assist level should be tunable to the rider not the other way around. I appreciate the increasing power of these motors but I am also out there to train at my particular assist level of the day based on how my legs feel on that given day. When assist levels get too powerful at the low settings (with no way to set low enough for your level of training required); they make you weaker and that sucks. I have one of these bikes and fortunelty the 3 sublevels at assist level 1 are week enough to let me train hard. I really testted it on hills before I decided to buy the bike. (have allot of ebikes. Shim steps, Bosch (they suck), several syncdrive motors which are my fav. I would have a Specialized if they weren't so fucking over priced.

    I ride a Giant E-bike in the UK as my daily commute, awesome bike with great flexibility for road and trail riding. Battery life is great, easily giving 60 mile range with a mix of assistance used. Fantastic build quality so hopefully allowing me several years of use. Thanks for a great review. Would love to get one of these someday.

      @basecamper7504 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got 5 on it, yes I do, my commute is 20 miles per day I start with a full charge and recharge after 3 days. The battery has a range of 98 miles on eco mode alone but taking into account my weight and mix of assistance, it’s pretty good going.

    I’ve ridden this bike for 2 years, never have hit my knee on the key area. Maybe that is peculiar to you. I am 5’7” and have lengthened my stem length having thought that it was a little too short as well. Other mods I have made to this bicycle: ergo mountain bike saddle, pedals, little bit larger rotor out front, and switched to a coil shock in back. I’ve had to take it to the shop once for it stopped working, it was repaired on warranty with no other issues since. Of course it is getting its battle scars but continues to work without issues. I have never exhausted the battery on it on any one day trip that I have made.

    Thanks for another great review. I just took the 2020 Trance E+ 2 Pro for a ride yesterday at a demo event at my local trails in Canada. The bike was awesome. I really liked how the suspension felt and how the bike handled. The paint job with the chameleon colour is very cool. The bike changes colour depending on the angle to look at it. Purple to blue. You can view the bike on the Giant Canadian website.

  • @nycgmr

    Very thorough and well done. One gripe, and I never leave negative feedback, but come on - the battery has to slightly protrude as it’s just technologically necessary. In time they will slim the batteries. Check your foot positioning you’re a good rider you shouldn’t hit your knees on that design. As always, great video. I hope my critique is not out of line. Keep up the great work. Ty. GMR

      I have the 2019 SX E +1 Pro and use it for commuting. I'd change the tires to something smoother and get ready to change a lot of gearsets as they get chewed pretty fast being so powerful. Most of my commuting is done in top gear cruising so that seems to get eaten by the chain pretty quick. Other than the consumables getting used up depending on your travel time, I'd say go for it. Get some mudguards too :)

    I like Giant bikes for different reasons, but the fact they´re still sticking to their 500Wh batteries in their 2020 bikes (even in top of the line bikes) is pretty terrible. 600Wh is the minimum required in this day and age, particularly and this price.
    I also greatly dislike the Ridecontrol One: no info at all, and no compatibility with other than your phone, that you cannot charge through the bike. A minimal display is better than nothing at all. Shimano does it better: unobtrusive display, and with enough info to completely avoid the phone.
