Is the Stena ferry better than Eurostar? - we go from Rotterdam to London to see...

- This is my first ever overnight ferry trip from the Netherlands to the UK with Stena. This route comes highly recommended (by Seat 61 no less!) and so I'm expecting a good trip.
I started in Rotterdam, but honestly, because the ferry leaves at 10pm, you've got enough time to travel the previous day from anywhere in the Netherlands and a lot of the rest of Europe too.
I booked this journey only three weeks in advance and got some discount with my Interrail ticket. Obviously many Interraillers use Eurostar, but with such short notice, it is unlikely that you'll find a reservable seat using your Interrail ticket!
Departure: Rotterdam, The Netherlands
Destination: London Liverpool Street, England, UK
Overnight ferry, with sole use of a two bed cabin: £83.40 / €97,80 (inc £12.60 Interrail discount)
Metro Schiedam to Hoek van Holland: €4,50
All other train journeys covered by Interrail ticket.
Date of Travel: December 2023
Operator: Stena
Motive power: Stena Britannica

Why has this one been re-uploaded?
I had to re upload because TH-cam reported a problem with it. Sorry to ping your notifications unnecessarily!
@@JohnnyHooverTravels me who was originally thinking it was a new video but but then realised you don't upload on Tuesdays:
Watched it again anyway.
Always pleasant with a night ferry
An entertaining surprise full of information. Hoover, you are the best!
Thank you, that's very kind. Thank you for watching 👍
I use this ferry route once a year or so to visit relatives in Germany (though unfortunately as a car passenger since I travel with family) and it's always an enjoyable trip.
Yes, I really enjoyed it and will certainly use it again to cross into the Netherlands with the benefit of getting an early start on the day you arrive.
Thanks for watching 👍
I prefer the daytime trips from HvH to Harwich and back. The cabins are heavily discounted because they're not mandatory, and there are so much more food and drink options during a daytime trip. Also the duty free shops are open longer during the day when on sea.
Arriving around 8/9pm in Harwich, getting a proper fish and chips is the best!
@@djnaffie that's sounds like a great day out! I'm travelling on the route again in January, but again it will be the overnight service as that fits in better with inbound trains from Exeter.
Thanks so much for the comment and also for watching 👍
Thoroughly enjoyed this route in the other direction that I've been twice. Definitely more relaxing and cheaper than Eurostar to the Netherlands traveling alone and even more as a family sharing a berth.
Yes, I will definitely be repeating the trip next timeI need to be in The Netherlands with the benefit of a good early start on the continent.
Thanks for watching 👍
great video! i live in Rotterdam and travel frequently back home to Essex and I would love to do this route!
@@yaztraveladdict I very much recommend it. It makes the journey feel like a holiday and i slept really well!
I will definitely be travelling that way again.
Thanks so much for watching and for commenting 👍

Thats good,
Bargain,
Lovely journey enjoyed this 😊
Thanks 👍
I'm not sure what I wrote the first time around but clearly it was a hugely memorable comment. I do remember the video was great and y'all should watch it!
Thank you ❤️
You could also take metro line D or E from Rotterdam Centraal to Beurs station and change there for the same metro line B to Hoek van Holland.
Yes, there were other routes. I suppose for the Rotterdam traveller this makes it all the easier to connect across to HvH.
Thank you so much for watching 👍
As far as I know there is a direct metro from the rotterdam central station to Hoek van Holland
No, there isn't. You would have to change to Line B at Beurs.
Anyway, thanks so much for watching! 👍
Didbt kbkw it had been reuploaded but have watched it again as its a great video
Thank you Peter. High praise indeed- much appreciated.
Yeah, TH-cam reported some issues with the original so I had to redo the upload. Hopefully not a regular thing, as it has never happened before in 2 years of posting!
seen this episode before 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
Yes - TH-cam was reporting errors, so I had to re-upload it...
