cabbat doolab she’s very English looking. People in Newcastle are genetically some of the most “native” English people in the country, they’re pale but dark haired, like the “English rose” stereotype.
Who’s This? They’re not actually, Yorkshire are the most ‘English’ while Wales and Scotland will have the pre-Anglo-Saxon English (Celts). Cheryl doesn’t look Anglo-Saxon. She clearly has some Celtic/Irish from her mother (possibly father too) but her colourings and features are not typically English or Celtic. Newcastle and South Shields had a lot of foreign sailors passing through or settling, and a link with Yemen. She may have a Yemeni ancestor (recent or distant) in any case it would probably have not been discussed. The North East has an old Yemeni community from as far back as the 18/19th century and still exists today
cabbat doolab my mum and grandad are British and they are always confused for Italians did ancestry DNA mostly British only like 2% Italian and 1.3% Spanish guess it shows British people come in all looks
ebbandflow this actually isn’t accurate. Yorkshire was one of the main places Irish immigrants settled due to the industry there, those with roots in Yorkshire are likely to have a lot of Irish Celtic ancestry as well as Anglo-Saxon and Norman (and Scandinavian, both the north east and Yorkshire have interesting Viking history too). The north east port was used mainly to transport things from the north to London, its very unlikely other ethnicities would come to the NE and settle themselves, unlike more international ports like Liverpool where this did occur. The history of the North East is also one of massive English defence, and can be seen to this day on the border between Scotland and England and in old castles all over Northumberland. This area is the most homogenous of any main place in the country, and therefore is the most native. The modern “Geordie” accent even has strong links with “old English”.
I've got a sneaking suspicion that the reason that everything was so "hush hush" on her mother's side is because someone slept with an ethnic person, and back in those days it was unacceptable. That's why Cheryl and her mom are so olive skinned.

They found out that her grandfather had left his wife, her grandmother, never got a divorce, and ended up marrying another woman and having another family. So the baby his wife had wasn't his.
I reckon somewhere in her lineage is foreign blood. Compared to the others in Girls Aloud, Cheryl has the slightly olive toned skin, large dark eyes, dark hair. Don’t think it’s Middle Eastern, but definitely southern European, maybe Mediterranean descent. She definitely has more of a foreign look to her. She’s admitted she used to get bullied at school for her comparatively darker skin and thick hair and eyebrows, with kids saying she looked like a Pakistani. 😕 Would be interesting to see what a proper ancestry test to check her descent would show up.
