You know u r frugal when u use the little that is left in the jam jar or mustard jar to make a vinaigrette right in the jar! For the peanut bar jar I make my peanut sauce when there is only bit left. You know you're frugal when you reuse what folks normally toss. You make apple peel jelly, watermelon rind pickle, scrap quilts. You mend socks, make cleaning rags from old t- shirts and towels, wash out and reuse jars, plastic containers, and zip lock bags. You learn how to fix things, like rewire lamps, strip furniture. You keep scrap paper to jot notes on and reuse the clean backs of mail and flyers to print out pages for personal use. You find pleasure and beauty in everyday things.
You know you are fugal if you are constantly learning from old books (published long time ago) and from blogs and videos! Thank you, Jane. So excilted for the growth of your channel. 🌸
I don’t throw any stale bread. With a rolling pin I make coarse bread crumbs for stuffing. When planning an omelette I mix a couple spoons of crumbs snd soaking them for a few minutes then cook the omelette with mushroom, cheese, etc. Before putting away the eggshells for garden use I scrape the last bits of egg whites and apply on my face or hands, it tightens the skin, non need for Botox😊
You know you’re frugal when you use mesh bags from produce as pot scrubbies, or when you make a pot of tea, pour yourself a cup and refill the teapot and then use the cold left over tea in the tea pot to make ice tea and freeze the tea bag for foot soaks later on.
When you check your Christmas items before buying more. Me today....Christmas card check, gift paper check, re-useable gift bag check, still got enough for this year, so that will do nicely.
Here's my fun one: You know you're frugal if you add a little bit of water to a sauce jar and shake it around just to make sure you get every last bit out of the jar when cooking.
You know your frugal when your special skill is looking in the fridge and pantry and coming up with great dinner ideas that use up all the things that need using fastest. Also when you start suggesting a hardware voucher as a gift when asked or you use gift vouchers for practical things. Also when you start stopping buying things you always thought were essential but realise you dont need them.

17.01Hi Jane and Mike from Newbury, Berkshire. I just want to thank you both for all your tips and advice. You have been an inspiration to me, I have followed your advice on budgetting and it has been transforming. I have had a few ups and downs but learnt from them. Thank you!!
You know you are frugal when you reuse aluminum foil and plastic bags. The thrift stores in my area do not have dollar days but mark down items with certain colored tags 50%. I also learned that every Tuesday is senior discount day and you get 25% off.
you know you are frugal when you cut up pillow cases, sheets & tea towels that have had it, for cleaning cloths - our aim is for nothing to go into landfill unless absolutely necessary, and when we can get no more use out of it
You know you are frugal when save every jar and lid and can or store food in them. Sometimes, I buy drinks in glass bottles and reuse them as water or lunch beverages to go, like cold coffee, iced tea or fruit waters. Some of my bottles and jars are 10 or more years old. It’s worth the price of the original beverage to have the reusable bottles.
You know you are frugal if you challenge yourself to portion out your dishwashing, cleaning and laundry products so you only buy them once a year! And use a coupon for them then! I bought a large refill bottle of Dawn liquid last January and use it for all sorts of things besides hand washing dishes. A $10 bottle has lasted me 10 months now and I still have a few weeks' worth left.
You are frugal if you were in the newspaper for been frugal...also had a subscription to The Tightwad Gazette ..paid in cash for your 2 rental houses..paid off your mortgage early....
You know you're frugal when you tell your husband off for forgetting to take his lunchbox to work and spending money on lunch! Your hair looks fabulous in this video, Jane.
You know your frugal when your constantly thinking others are nuts for what they buy. I like to think I'm not judgemental but I'm starting to realise maybe I am a little bit lol. I see it every where at the moment people on face book complaining there broke and can't afford food but you scroll down there page and there is photos with a brand new car or holiday pics. That friend who says " how do you do it as a single mum how do you own your home we rent and it's costing us so much. I have stop my self from saying " because I live sensible and save not just money but things for a rainy day!
Yes, I often wonder exactly how badly off some people are. In many cases, once deductions such as flashy cars, expensive mobiles etc; have been taken out. 🤷
I have made some delicious fruit scrap vinegars. The strawberry scraps included the hulls, water and a little sugar. I strained out all the fruit pulp before bottling it up. It was delicious.
I cannot do without Kenco Millicano coffee, my one cup a day with my breakfast is part of my wakeup and get-going routine. However, I will not pay the full price of around £6 a tin. I wait until the supermarket has it on offer at around £3 a tin, then I bulk buy. I never run out.
I had a moment today, I couldn't get my Internet to work in my computer. Turns out I pulled out the electric plugs for the TV and fan to save electricity a few days ago and didn't realize the wifi modem uses the same cord. 😂
You know you're frugal if, when you need to buy anything at all, you look around your house to see if you already have something that will fill the need or purpose.

You know you are frugal if you are willing to eat leftovers. Also, if you excel in creatively re-inventing leftovers. On the same note, if you are keen to find out what foods your family relishes and gobbles down to the last morsel (and hence meal plan around those) and what foods your family leaves heaps of untouched (and hence avoid preparing those).
You know you are frugal if you use a calculator to punch in the prices of items you put in a cart 🛒 at a supermarket before wheeling them to the cashier (till). Just so that you can be sure of the final bill awaiting for you to settle and more importantly, to avoid (embarrassing) surprises at the till. Also, you occasionally return items you had put in your 🛒 on the supermarket shelves if only just to bring down the bill by a few coins. 😊 Glad to participate.
I know that I am frugal , because I already do most of the things that you mentioned, except for the train plane /tickets I booked un aller retour TGV to Paris from the Charente Maritime for the end of December in the first week of September it cost me 92 € at the booking office and even if I had waited she said it would never come down and would be booked up very quickly . On the other hand my daughter generously booked a ticket for me ,Paris to Tahiti ( she lives there )and she advanced the date by 2 days and paid 300€ less !!! but I am not very good on internet if I was I am sure that I would get lots of good deals .
