Michael Fairchild Hendrix world scholar told me many years ago that Hendrix tuned down to G slack,G C F Bb D G ,where C is Eb and A position of standard tuning is F ,key here.Stll play this piece on D tuned Fiddle,D A E B.Chris Young an old Fiddler of Albuquerque NM

Huh? What? G slack? Never heard of that.What is that? The song is in standard tuning . It is a very very small amount off from perfect A 440- so small though that most people will never even know (didn't have tuners like we do today )so that's not even an issue.. It is true that Jimi Hendrix tuned flat -1/2 step on much of his music -but not here brotha. So unless I'm completely missing something you're saying - That Hendrix world scholar sounds like he ate a huge handful of peyote buttons and never came down . Tuning the E down to a G is 7 1/2 steps and that makes guitar strings so loose & saggy they practically blow in the wind ,kind of like that Hendrix world scholars advice.cuz again- -Song is in standard tuning.
