Aww y’all this video making me a little emotional ngl. It’s so inspiring to see where you’ve come from. I started watching you when it was the scamp and the Mini Cooper, to now y’all building your own home! I am really hoping I can get my own mobile home next year and have some room to spread out outside of my 24ft camper I’ve lived in since 2019. I’ve been saving and hustling to try and make my dream a reality. I am trying to convert a shed on our family land into a cabin to be a little more comfortable through the winter this year, but we shall see. Weather, personal growth, work, and other projects have reduced my available time.
I haven't watched you for a while and after catching up with your videos I could really see that you're continuously improving your filming, editing and narration skills. amazing!

One of the aspects I think about is after the home is done and you're all moved in, as you walk around you'll see some aspect and a memory will spark from when you were building it.

Are the women in your little community (Doreen, etc) more versed in the home side of things? I'd be like you, loving the mechanics and wanting a hand in every step of the process, all of the learning, so I just wonder where are all the women? 💜
That’s an interesting observation. Mike is one of our good friends who’s staying on our land right now, he’s helping all the neighbors and is just a super helpful hand to have around. Of course we’ve got James around all the time. Doreen isn’t always over at our place helping with projects bc it’s James’ expertise and she’s at her property building and maintaining their new space they acquired this summer. Same with Brad’s wife. I suppose a lot of the labor lately too is stuff that requires heavy lifting. I think when we get into more of the detail work that requires more finesse and patience we will have a flip flop from men to women!! Doreen specifically is the master of finish work and I’m excited to learn from her. Thanks for this question and your sweet comment!🤍

About your squashes - I take smaller ones like yours, the more winter ones, and cut them in half. Then I place them in the skillet, cut side down in about 1/2" water and some butter, put a cover on it and basically poach it until the meat of the squash is soft. Some times more water is needed for a particularly stubborn squash. Most of them are yummy that way,
I've been following you guys for several years now and let me tell you I have a very happy with this project that you guys are doing and looking forward to see it completed I know it's going to be a little lengthy project but it's better that way so it could be done right
The song at the end, coupled with the emotions that had been portrayed up to that point, brought literal tears to my eyes. You said it right, you are in a race against winter. If something has to take a little vacation to make that happen, slow down the videos even more. Get that house!
The house is looking beatiful. as is the garden. The leaves from the broccoli can be cooked like spinach. The flowers from the broccoli and your greens can be used in salads. The broccoli flowers taste amazing, kinda sweet.

Next year you should plant lettuce. My kids grow it in there garden. We plant both Black Seeded Simpson and Green Salad Bowl. Both are leaf lettuce and grow fast and are easy to harvest. My 10 year old did most of the harvesting this summer.

Steamed squash is good too. Throw it in a pot with a little water at the bottom, low heat, voila.
