I remember going back to work the next day after being at this show. I listened to this song on headphones while I painted a room. I was just grinning ear to ear and had goosebumps. I was so proud to be a Phish fan. The room almost painted itself. When the Boys are in the zone, it’s really magic.
One of my favorite songs to listen to when I first get up to the mountains for the weekend. I take Joy to the hills with me every trip. Great comeback album!
Just got back from kill devil falls Draped my waterlogged clothes in the hall Reach for a beer, glad that I'm here When I realize that you're not around Turned on some music and then the T.V. Go through the pile of mail waiting for me Something I spy makes me pull it aside A letter from your home town How could you leave me, you heard what I said I'd be at the waterfall clearing my head Soaking up nature and thinking of you But leaving's the last thing I thought you would do I didn't plan to stop at the bar But kill devil falls is really so far Who knew a day would turn into a week? But I learned my lesson And I can still remember the last one But this time will be different Until I do it again Stared at the ceiling for over a day But none of my questions are answered this way Won't make any calls, I just bounce off the walls 'Till I go back to kill devil falls How could you leave me? You heard what I said I'd be at the waterfall clearing my head Soaking up nature and thinking of you And leaving's the last thing I thought you would do I didn't plan to stop at the bar But kill devil falls is really so far Who knew a day would turn into a week? But I learned my lesson And I can still remember the last one But this time will be different This time will be different! And I stand at the base of the mountain (don't follow me) And I step right up to the cliff side (gotta learn how to lead) And I stare straight into the future (tell me, what do you see?) This time's gonna be different Oh, don't go back to kill devil falls Oh, don't go back to kill devil falls Oh, don't go back to kill devil falls Oh, I learned my lesson! And I can still remember the last one But this time will be different Don't go back to kill devil falls Don't go back to kill devil falls Don't go back to kill devil falls Don't go back to kill devil falls Don't go back to kill devil falls Don't go back to kill devil falls Don't go back to kill devil falls Don't go back to kill devil falls
Trey gets better every year! Phish sounds better then ever. How many of us in 2004 after they stepped off the stage in VT could have predicted the band would be playing some of its best work in 2015?! Crazy.
SeattleSublime I wouldn't call it some of their best work, but I would call it decent. All their jams sound the same and trey plays the same riffs over and over again.
Zach Davis-Price Exactly. Reading the comments about the Phish shows is "entertaining" to say the least. Never have so many, gone to so many shows, only to constantly bitch about them. They need to get a fucking life or something. "Man, you should have been there for that one, or heard the jam at this one in Jersey, blah, blah, blah. STFU and go to concerts and at least make an attempt to have a good time. Bloody hell. We see them once a year when they come to the area (because we have jobs and lives), enjoy it, maybe download some other shows and enjoy those, go to some other artists' concerts throughout the year and repeat.
Phillip Poggi Fee sounds like Bouncing Around the Room sounds like Guyute sounds like Kill Devil Falls? fuck off. Crack open another Haterade and enjoy yourself
I was at both Atlanta summer 2015 shows and this night, the first night, the energy was just absolutely outrageous. The set ended with Bathtub Gin with Reba whistling inside of the jam after opening set2 with this amazing KDF>Martian Monster, it was outrageous. Next night we got a 30minute Tweezer.
To the people who say that they were better 'back in the day'.... It's worth noting that at this same point in their careers, The Grateful Dead had already ceased to exist, had been using telemprompters for at least 10 years, had a bandleader who could barely make it onstage, much less remember what song he was singing, and had stopped being a potent musical force for at least 10 years as well. Oh, and they had also given up playing certain songs because they were 'too difficult'. The fact that these guys are still sharp, hungry, prodigious, and writing new, epic songs at this point is nothing less than fr**ing amazing. Is it as good as '93? Hell, I don't know. But if you are absolutely convinced that they peaked 25 years ago, it's not because they're older. It's because you are.
For real though, the crowd shots at the end of a jam like this are my favorites... watching people looking around, shit eating grin, looking for their brains that just got blown out of their skulls... just the best. I know the feeling well, it's what keeps me coming back tour after tour :)
95-99 will always be my favorite phish years. but I will definitely say they still got it. I love how it's not all Trey solos with 2.0 and 3.0 they all play an equal role now and it's killer. If you don't like what they're doing go listen to panic or something. if you don't think they still got it go listen to rock n roll from the gorge 2011 that will put all you haters to bed. I didn't think they would ever beat rock n roll from big cypress but they definitely did with 2011 gorge.
while i love the shreddy Trey of the 90s, I don't think Phish have jammed better than they are doing now. BD was phenomenal, and 12/30 of this NYE run was one for the ages.
fretgod321 i was at the 12/30 show this year, fucking amazing, best concert ive been to. I wasnt alive to see them in 94-97 but im forever grateful that theyre still around kicking ass
FZappa20 brought me here-check out his channel-was at the Forum in LA on the 25th my first Phish show-was totally impressed and they equaled any Dead show experience I ever had pretty killer band a lifetime fan now for sure I caught the fever!!
John Marshall AGREED!!! Listen to the early 2000's shows and he get's lost in long jams and you can hear the boys, usually more than once during a song, try and bring him back with a hook. Much, much tighter these days!!
***** You are crazy. Every year they have gotten better and better. This summer has been incredible so far (save for one show - Austin 7/28), and its only getting better. Last year was superb as well (SPAC, Randall's, MPP, Chicago, Portsmouth, Dick's, Eugene, SF, Vegas, and Miami were all incredible runs), and many shows throughout Summer 2013 and of course the entire Fall 2013 tour was great, followed by the NYE run. That's as far back as I'm going to go, but you'll see an upwards trend starting back in the Summer of 2012, no question. By Magnaball and Dick's, I'd be careful. Your face may be lost forever if you attend a show from here on out.
***** While they still have off nights, and by off nights I don't even mean bad shows, just not as amazing as others, a lot of phans would definitely agree with John Marshall here. In 2009 I only listened to 1.0 with a bit of 2.0 mixed in. After hearing a show for the first time I wouldn't listen to it again. Now I hardly listen to any shows before 2010 or later. They're killing it.... I think the fact that the highest rated show on phish.net is from 2014 says a lot...
It's funny...people get so offended when you offer an opinion. Perhaps it's because the opinions are poorly presented in the form of "hating," as you all call it. But the same people who get offended at the "hating" proceed to hate themselves! At risk of getting "hated" on, I will offer mine. Why? Because I have nothing better to do. Phish is not playing their best music right now. That notion is laughable. Phish themselves would admit to this. Does this make the shows bad? No. It's just that blindly claiming that this is the "BEST" phish ever is severely and grossly exaggerated. I'm going to Phish in a couple days when they come to Alpine. They will put on an amazing rock show with elements of improvisation, silly on-stage antics, and phenomenal light shows. Phish is amazing, and always will be. That being said, I agree with the people who say they aren't playing as well as they used to. I say that not to discredit or insult, I say that as insight. They are getting old, they have lives, they don't practice like they used to. Does this make them bad? No, it makes them Phish, two decades after some of the BEST music ever to be played live. My opinion. Some people could very well believe that this is the best Phish ever. Good for them. It's hard to comprehend how anyone touring them two decades ago would think that, however, thus clearly signalling out "n00bs." My favorite Phish jams: Tweezer (12/2/95), Ghost (7/23/97), Reba (3/22/93), Bathtub Gin (8/17/97 or 9/22/99), Down With Disease (12/11/97)
i hear you its infuriating those types of peoole who will go on the attack for letting them know that phish is not at their peak or best but is stilo great none the less. They are the worst kind of fans.
Dude u gota remember alot o fans are "custies" who became kids and wernt even around back in the 90s hell im 30 been at the show since 03 so compared to what i heard then they are playing amazing that said i got alot of live shit from the 90s and it is way crunchier but like u said there gettin older so not doing to more spaced shit like they used to still one of the greatest bands ever
+SPIKEJONES12211 reading your question made my day b/c it is the first time I've ever heard the same tease that someone else claims or think they heard. Up until now, I thought only the most spun out psychedelic astronauts named teases in songs. hell yeah, same here!
One of the best example of Trey's tension and release soloing style. Keeps climbing and climbing
Fish is the greatest improve rock drummer ever. That's just me
Absolutely.
That hypnotic thing he does around the 14 minute mark may be my favorite thing he's ever done.
He’s incredible.
He can be the glue holding and supporting everything together
A-fuckin-men, brother. The guy is phenomenal!
I think Phish is the best. Have for years.
Phish is the best. Period!

“This time will be different,” indeed!!!
Stared straight into the future. This time will be different. Can't wait to get back. Can't wait to get back to Watkins Glen.
+Piperredworm you wrote this before Magnaball, didn't you? I'm sitting here post-Magna wishing like hell I can go back again, again.
me too :)

Phillip Poggi Oy, you guys are insufferable.
Have a go at going to a concert to enjoy yourself..
Phillip Poggi Jesus christ. I hope you don't bother attending any shows if this is how you feel.
Zach Davis-Price Exactly. Reading the comments about the Phish shows is "entertaining" to say the least. Never have so many, gone to so many shows, only to constantly bitch about them.

Now this is my new all time fav version. Beautifully layered and deep. Like my wife! 🤘🏼❤️💯

What an AMAZING show! PHISH IS ON FIRE!!!!!
I was lawn, Mike's Side for that second set, amazing energy with the Blue Moon at my back and Phish playing the best KDF
+Bryan Palmer I was there too it was an amazing 2 nights
Mr. Palmer, “Are you concerned with the million dollar question?”.
For real though, the crowd shots at the end of a jam like this are my favorites... watching people looking around, shit eating grin, looking for their brains that just got blown out of their skulls... just the best.
I know the feeling well, it's what keeps me coming back tour after tour :)
That’s what’s up man!
That cowbell groove that Fishman is rocking at the 19 minute mark is out of this world!
Really feeling this song today!!! Love the funky bass in this one.

Treys face at the end when he looked up at page. Yup.. you guys still have it.
FZappa20 brought me here-check out his channel-was at the Forum in LA on the 25th my first Phish show-was totally impressed and they equaled any Dead show experience I ever had pretty killer band a lifetime fan now for sure I caught the fever!!
That bass in the end, beautyfull notes
This is The Phish
Mike McCorn From Vermont.
Mike McCorn you are right about this
Love seeing Trey sober. The band is sounding better and better every year.
John Marshall He smokes occasionally.
Benjamin Fredrick Probably but he's not doing the hard drugs anymore. You can tell by his playing.
John Marshall AGREED!!! Listen to the early 2000's shows and he get's lost in long jams and you can hear the boys, usually more than once during a song, try and bring him back with a hook. Much, much tighter these days!!

Glad to see this song being turned into an opportunity to jam.
they always jam it out really well. this is just a rare type 2 kdf
Greg Gramelspacher I think that's kinda his point, dude.
I remember Atlanta omni 1996 Halloween! Changed my life!
Trey's guitar sounds like Dopey from Land of the Lost at 9:15.
ocelet is back
Jaw dropping.
Good to see the Ocedoc out again; it's my favorite!
Telemarkgirl ehh.
Benjamin Fredrick Yeah I was hoping he was gonna stick with Old Reliable for more of the tour.
Best confetti cannon ever around 21 minutes. is that from the fans or from the band? Either way, I need 40.
This is one you have to turn up real loud.
aren’t they all? 😜

post 2004 phish songs all sound the same. Sober = boring.
