      If I'm not mistaken, this lesson is part of the exploration of the fingerboard. But in order to do that you've got to play something.

    playing patterns without knowing the intervals is a little counter productive, Don't you think?

      The intervals he is using are major 3rds and minor 3rds. Hope that helps!

      Don't get too bogged down with theory. Not to minimize it's importance, but look at and learn the shapes of these triads in their various positions. Take small useable chunks and get them down so you can begin to incorporate them into your playing.
